Burberry Handbags: A Symbol of Timeless Aristocracy

Among the many brands offering designer bags and accessories, Burberry handbags stand out for their remarkable originality and elegance.

With an ambition to revolutionize clothing and make them more suitable for the cold and rainy British weather, Burberry was founded in 1856. It didn’t take long for the brand’s innovative founder, Thomas Burberry to invent gabardine – a hardwearing, breathable and waterproof fabric that was patented in 1888. Within the next few decades, the brand had won over people of all types with their coats and managed to create a huge presence in London.

After winning multiple royal warrants over the years for their weatherproof coats, today, Burberry is a global behemoth in the luxury fashion industry. They offer an array of sophisticated clothes and accessories for men, women, and children. Among the many different accessories, Burberry handbags are very popular for their combination of timeless elegance, versatility, and a design philosophy that showcases the refined, British taste.

A Great Variety of Accessories and Handbags

Not only coats and other fashionable clothes, but Burberry have also been offered a comprehensive fashion solution since the early 1900s. In addition to the elegant outfits, the brand also offers an array of expertly crafted accessories that includes jewelry, sunglasses, scarves, and most importantly, bags for both women and men.

Besides, when it comes to bags, Burberry has an abundance of options ranging from the iconic women’s bags renowned for their timeless essence to the trendy side bags, backpacks, fanny packs, etc. For women, there are also cross body bags, title bags, tote bags, shoulder bags, as well as the Burberry signature LOLA bags and Belt bags, etc. Not to mention the remarkably functional, yet highly fashionable baby changing bags for new parents.

There is no shortage of men’s bag options either, with Burberry offering a great variety of options that includes bum bags, briefcases, messenger bags, pouches, and washbags, etc. Whereas, the Burberry backpacks are stylish, comfortable, and versatile enough to be used by both the explorers and everyday hustlers.

Originality and the Unique Charm of Burberry Handbags

As the inventor of gabardine, it is obvious that the Burberry handbags would look and feel very unique than the rest of the luxury fashion brands. While they are predominantly British in their soft colors, minimalist approach, and impeccable detailing; the iconic women’s bags from Burberry are universal as an emblem of femininity and style. No matter which particular type of bag you prefer, Burberry has what it takes to satisfy people of all ages in accordance with their variety of tastes.

For example, the minimalists find their small grained leather bags very appealing for their golden detailing, as well as the functional buckles and zippers; while the young women love the vibrant, printed canvas bags as well as the bags made with genuine python leather. Moreover, the bold bucket bags with shoulder straps are a true symbol of Burberry, which can help anyone to stand out from the crowd with ease.

Vogue Model Exposes Financial, Physical & Exploitation in the Fashion Industry

the model manifesto, modelling, fashion industry, exploitation,

I was interested to see this book on the modeling industry. I have worked as an actor and I have also done modeling in the past. There are no words for how much I hated working as a model. I was never actually a model, but the way women are treated is awful. On the other side, I have covered London Fashion Week many times. Seeing how thin and young the models were always tugged on my conscious.

Leanne Maskell is a warrior. This brave book she has written should be read by every model and everyone who works in the fashion industry. It should indeed become a manifesto. Bravo to Leanne. I hope she sells millions of copies of this book.

The Life of a Model: Physical, Financial and Emotional Exploitation

Vogue model releases an A-Z anti-exploitation manual for the fashion industry

Why this book matters:

  • Exploitation has become accepted in the industry, with 29.7% of models being inappropriately touched on a shoot and 28% of models facing pressure to sleep with someone at work.
  • Over half of all models start working before they are 16, yet America is the only country to legally enforce breaks, chaperones and limit working hours. The lack of restrictions led to 14-year-old model Vlada Dzyuba working herself to death in 2017.
  • The pressure on models to lose weight and the constant rejection from clients can leave them vulnerable to mental illness, with 31% suffering from eating disorders and 68% from anxiety and/or depression.
  • Models face intense financial exploitation, with hidden contracts signed on their behalf meaning agencies in the UK take as much as 45% commission and can charge required expenses such as transport, personal trainers, nutritionists and hairdressers to the model without their prior knowledge or consent.
  • Modelling can be very dangerous, with 77% of models said they had been exposed to alcohol or drugs while on a job and 50% exposed to cocaine.

Sixteen hour working days, forced onto starvation diet plans, waiting months to be paid, no changing rooms, hair bleached beyond repair, made to strip naked at work, swallowing cotton wool soaked in water to curb your appetite – this is the ugly truth behind the life of a model.

Leanne Maskell is the author of The Model Manifesto, an A to Z anti-exploitation manual to the fashion industry which aims to educate current and aspiring models on how to find success and avoid the pitfalls of physical, financial, and emotional exploitation.

The book’s advice covers essential topics every model needs to know including: finding the right agency, creating a portfolio, understanding tax, working aboard, the role of social media, avoiding hidden agency expenses and knowing your own legal rights.

Leanne Maskell, author, Vogue model and activist.

Leanne started modelling at the age of thirteen, working for clients such as Vogue and London Fashion Week. Now, with 13 years of experience working regularly for clients such as ASOS, Amazon and New Look, she has created a book to give models the information she wished she had been provided with throughout her career.

While she loved her career, she frequently suffered from exploitation, including two men changing her into tights on a shoot when she was 13, having her drink spiked, being heavily pressured into shooting revealing imagery and being sent to a hotel room for a “casting” for escorts by her agency. The cost of Leanne’s successful career was suffering from anorexia, bulimia and severe depression.

Leanne empowered herself by studying Law at University and has combined her legal and modelling experience to empower other models in the hope that they do not encounter the same pitfalls as she has. Whilst writing The Model Manifesto, she created policies to improve the modelling industry which has led to a legal career advising on immigration law & mental health law policy.

The Model Manifesto has been written to protect the 99% of models that don’t make it big – the ones who are treated as disposable objects. It also aims to educate those who wish to be models on how to avoid exploitation, empower themselves and enjoy the benefits of the job.” – Leanne Maskell

The Model Manifesto by Leanne Maskell is out 02 May 2019 and is priced at £14.99. To find out more go to: www.themodelmanifesto.com

Catherine Walker Couture – Two Never-Before-Seen Outfits Added To Diana: Her Fashion Story at Kensington Palace

From April 26th 2018, visitors to the existing Diana: Her Fashion Story exhibition at Kensington Palace will be able to view eight new outfits, including two by designer CATHERINE WALKER.

The CATHERINE WALKER fashion house designed a number of Princess Diana’s outfits, with the chief designer, Catherine Walker sharing a mutual trust with the People’s Princess over a 16-year period.

After her death in 2010, Catherine Walker’s husband, Said Cyrus, (who co-founded in the company) continued in the capacity of Head Designer and has recently celebrated the 40th anniversary of the brand.

Frost Magazine was recently invited to a private viewing at the Spencer family’s London residence, Spencer House, of some of the iconic dresses worn by Diana, that saw her through the pomp and formality of state occasions, along with a number of classic outfits, carrying the Catherine Walker label.

“To have a piece of clothing made for you is one of the most intimate things you can do, both intellectually and physically. Intellectually, because what you choose to wear says everything about you, so to let someone design a piece of clothing for you is to allow them to tell your story to the world. Physically, because, as you stand semi-naked in front of the mirror, you are exposing yourself, literally. This is why a deep trust is so essential in the relationship between the designer and the client. You must trust that the designer sees you, listens to you and seeks to understand you…”

Kate Reardon

Editor, Tatler magazine

The Restory: To Be Fashion Thou Shalt Restore Not Replace

The Restory- To Be Fashion Thou Shalt Restore Not ReplaceOur consumption of fashion is evolving. The throwaway days of ‘new season, new wardrobe’ seem to be numbered as we seek a more sustainable approach to all aspects of our lives, not just the fashionable ones. This evolution is fuelled for some by pragmatism, for others by altruism, but for the majority by a desire for our purchases to exist beyond a few seasons, or even just a few outings. Maximalist founder of the website, Man Repeller, Leandra Medine, recently told British Vogue that she wished she only owned 15 things.

A more circular approach is taking hold; yes, we buy – both new and pre-loved – but we also repair and rent and sell. We buy less but we buy better and we expect more. Some brands have always understood customer’s demand for products that have longevity and therefore provide aftercare and repair services to that end; heritage names such as Mulberry and Hermes spring to mind. Whilst eco-brand Patagonia has a lifetime guarantee on all its products.

However, it seems that for many luxury brands, everything beyond a legitimate product defect is simply outside their scope … and maybe that’s true but it can still leave the customer in a lurch.

This is what happened to native New Yorker, Vanessa Jacobs when she moved to London in 2006. “A high-street cobbler made an unapologetic mess out of what should have been a simple heel tip replacement,” recalls Jacobs. It was this experience, and nearly 10 years of subsequent ones of a similar nature, that spurred her to launch The Restory, an on-demand shoe and handbag restoration service that brings together quality, service, convenience and craftsmanship.

“It felt like moving heaven and earth to find someone you trust only to realise you could trust them with some things and not others,” continues Jacobs. “I had to make up a web of lies to take a half-a-day off from work to travel to their out-of-the-way shops and then do it all over again to collect my things. Often, they were nice but wouldn’t really go out of their way. I thought someone ought to do something about this and it turns out that someone was me.”

Jacobs spent 2 years assembling an A-team of cobblers, leather restorers, shoe blacks and cordwainers from across Europe; she even relocated several here to London. Coupled with charming service-oriented consultants, the company prides itself on devising solutions to almost any challenge.

“We use the term restoration because it connotes a what-ever-it-takes-to-bring-it-back approach,” says Jacobs.

Boasting a collection of services ranging from bespoke repairs to leather restoration to complete refashioning, The Restory is earning some impressive admirers. British Vogue recently crowned the company its’ go-to specialist and Vanity Fair and Fabric have also praised the company’s work.

“Currently, we are concentrating on providing The Restory’s services in London but we will be expanding across the whole of the UK,” continued Jacobs.  “Looking further ahead, the plan is to offer new services and products and then we will look to bring The Restory’s much needed skills to other markets.”

So, how does this service work? Simply book a collection online (and soon via app), and a consultant will collect your items from any home or office in Central or West London. Your items will be taken to their atelier, beautifully restored and returned at a time and place of your choosing. “It’s like buying you favourite pieces all over again.”
