Newcastle’s Kosoti to Release Bark and Sticks

Kosoti are a six piece alt folk/indie pop group based in the North East of England, UK.


After a near death experience in 2013, lead singer and songwriter Allan Hyslop realised he needed to treasure every moment of his life by doing what he loved most, writing and performing music. 
 
Once the band had formed they travelled a long way very quickly. After only six months they released ‘War’ and ‘Pirouettes’, a double ‘A’ sided digital single and video, before releasing the beautiful ‘Cradle’ EP, with its lush, homemade video complimenting the feeling of the title track perfectly.  Both releases brought Kosoti critical acclaim and word spread, ensuring the band performed their debut show at Sage Gateshead Hall Two to a sell out audience.Kosoti
Having already performed sessions for BBC Introducing, Amazing Radio and Metro Radio in their short career, their new single ‘Bark and Sticks’ is eagerly awaited by fans and media outlets alike.
 
‘Bark and Sticks’ boasts the beautiful vocal harmonies that are quickly becoming Kosoti’s trademark, with an infectious up-tempo melody that will no doubt draw comparisons to The Magic Numbers and Damien Rice.

 

 

Beautiful Jewellery By Alexis Dove

Touched by the nature of the South Downs, Alexis Dove works tirelessly to produce quintessentially English jewellery collections from her Sussex workshop.

Sarissa and Helios are part of the new ancient and modern-inspired collections by Alexis Dove. The thoughts behind the new pieces are to bring design elements from her fine jewellery pieces into the silver collections, connecting the two areas of her design work more closely.

Inspired by jewellery from ancient cultures, using natural motifs such as leaves, flowers and other wildlife along with images from nature that were important to everyday ancient life including the sun, hand-hammered textures and granulation bring this beautiful jewellery to life, with the Aphrodite collection being an extension of her 2013 summer Helios collection, gorgeous feminine pieces of cascading olive leaves and twinkling faceted olive stones.

As with all Alexis Dove collections, each piece is available in a variety of finishes, from silver to yellow and rose gold vermeil and with black rhodium. All Alexis Dove jewellery is handmade in Sussex and includes a signature clasp which is part of the hand-finished look. Prices start at around £40 and are available to purchase online with exclusive and bespoke pieces available at her stand-alone store in Lewes.

Ólöf Arnalds – New Single ‘Call It What You Want’ & London Show Announcement.

Released earlier this year, Sudden Elevation, Ólöf Arnald’s acclaimed third full album – her first sung entirely in English – captures a rare and idiosyncratic songwriting talent in full bloom. Ólöf releases a new single from the album, Call It What You Want on 25th November to coincide with international shows including a UK date at the The Lexington (19th November) and Iceland Airwaves (1st November).

Ólöf also makes available a free download, The Matador EP comprising 4 Icelandic songs originally included as a cover-mount with Spanish art magazine Matador last year. Three songs (Lát vaxa, Blóm, and Hlið) were composed by Skúli Sverrisson with lyrics by Ólöf, while Af stað was written for Bjork’s Náttúra concert in Reykjavík in June 2008. The lyric of the latter song is based on an old Icelandic nationalist poem. “I twisted all the words around” explains Ólöf, “Making fun of the over-romanticised pride of our country and put the emphasis on how much nature gives us as people; the rest, the piece of mind, the inspiration, the big picture… I sung about how the Icelandic nation was literally getting drunk from individual gain and self-importance. Three months later the country´s economy collapsed…”

 

Produced again by long-time collaborator, Skúli, Sudden Elevation was largely recorded in a late autumn 2011 stint in a seaside cabin in Hvalfjörður (literally ‘Whale-fjord’), in the west of Iceland.
