John Rocha Retires From London Fashion Week

JohnRocha retires from London Fashion WeekLondon Fashion Week will be very different this September, after John Rocha has announced he is retiring from it after 29 years.

Rocha told Vogue: “If I stay, I want to have something to say and I always want to keep the standard high. The last couple of collections I looked back on and I thought to myself, ‘that is really the best work I can do’, For the last few years I can see lots of talented people and designers coming up and with so much young talent you have to work so much harder, and I’m not going to do it until I drop!”

Rocha has been showing at London Fashion Week since 1985. Many have been taken by surprise at the news. He went on to tell Vogue why he was retiring: “People ask me why, and it’s because I want to do more with my time. I left Hong Kong in 1971 and I have never been back to spend Chinese New Year with my family because it always falls in February during the shows. In 40 years I have never taken more than ten days holiday at once. At this point in my life I want to live by my calendar and not the Fashion Week calendar. Stopping allows me to do that. It’s not an overnight decision, Odette and I have been talking about it for some time.”

The Rocha name will be carried on by his daughter Simone: “Simone can continue the family tradition in fashion, In the last couple of collections people finally understand what I’m about and I’ve achieved more than I ever thought. But for now I’m embracing the future. It’s time to move on.”

Osiris At Specsavers

Recently I got some funky new glasses from Osiris. They are very different from the glasses I usually wear. They are big for a start: a bold fashion statement. I am wearing them in the photo below so decide for yourself. Catherine Balavage

They are from Osiris, which are designed by fashion designer, Jorgen Simonsen, I saw him briefly at London Fashion Week. I was then invited by Specsavers to visit their Tottenham Court Road branch and pick a pair of his amazing glasses for myself. There was a lot of girly advice on hand and I got another eye test despite having one last year. Not much had changed thankfully.

It took me a while to choose which glasses I wanted, I had three in my hand at one point. I decided to go for the heavy black ones as I think they suited me the most and they were very different from the usual Missoni glasses I usually wear. I was also assured by the lovely ladies at Specsavers that they really suited me.

The service was excellent, as I expected: they knew I was a writer reviewing the glasses and experience. My one complaint is that I usually pay to get one lens thinned down, and this time I was charged for both lenses, which wasn’t needed and ended up costing me over £30 as it went over the price of the free glasses. I also think they charge too much to thin down lenses, a long running pet peeves with Specsavers, or that they should at least give a discount for two lenses.

My glasses weren’t ready immediately but when I went to get them they fitted them on me and away I went, happy with my new glasses.

You can check out Osiris at Specsavers here.

Marco Bicego Jewellery… Venetian magic

bicego[1]collection_image_small_collections_box_singolo-Paradise_senza_testo_[1] Marco Bicego is an Italian jewellery company whose pieces of elegance caught my eye as being exclusive and highly distinctive. Marco creates hand-crafted pieces that can be worn as an everyday luxury. The brand’s signature hand engraving is made with the traditional bulino, a special tool devised for the art of hand-carving which gives gold a fine, brushed texture, appearing to be almost soft like silk rather than a solid metal. It’s the softness of texture nestled alongside the delicate hues of exclusively-cut natural stones which deliver one-of-a-kind individuality to each piece of jewellery.
“The inspiration behind the creation of my jewels is rooted in my Venetian origins and the natural settings surrounding my territory” adds Marco “I have always believed in quality and in the secrets of Italian jewellery.”
Marco takes his jewellery range to another level with strong branding, changing the rules around the manufacturing process and pointing it in the direction of the woman who desires quality at an affordable price point.

The Duchess of Cambridge Causes Sales Of Yellow Dresses To Soar

duchessofcambridgeeBay, one of the world’s largest marketplaces, has seen a 95%* rise in sales of yellow dresses. This has been triggered by consistent trendsetter HRH The Duchess of Cambridge when spotted wearing citrus tones during The Royal Couple’s 19-day Australian and New Zealand tour.

Arriving in sunny Sydney, Australia wearing a striking, canary yellow pencil dress, Kate looked every inch the immaculate fashionista (despite being cheekily labelled a ‘banana’ by The Duke of Cambridge.) Four days later, Kate was pictured in a pastel number for Easter Sunday at Taronga Zoo with William and George, causing the total sales of yellow dresses on the UK site to almost double during this period.

Kate is not alone in her fondness for the summery hue. The yellow trend is on the up in the UK, with the likes of Susanna Reid pictured in a lemon yellow frock for Good Morning Britain as well as Hollywood sweetheart Emma Stone, who wore a fiery full-length yellow gown to The Amazing Spider-Man 2 premiere in London, last week.

In addition, sales of both floral (+94%)** and green dresses (+88%)*** spiked hugely overnight from the moment Kate was pictured wearing these styles during the tour.

eBay spokesperson, Laura Wilkinson-Rea comments, “The Duchess of Cambridge’s wardrobe undeniably affects what’s in when it comes to style-hunting on eBay, with sales consistently skyrocketing after she is photographed in the latest trend.
