Kim Cattrall; Hollywood Prejudice Against Older Actresses

Kim Cattrall feels she is “marginalised” as an actress.
The ‘Sex and the City’ star finds it hard winning roles now she is 54,
as casting directors are keen to get her to play characters who are
like man eater Samantha Jones, who she plays in the hugely successful
TV show.
She said: “Nobody wants to hire me unless I’m playing Samantha Jones.
Do you know what it’s like to be 54 and marginalised? It doesn’t get
any easier as you get older.”
Samantha admits prejudice in Hollywood is nothing new to her and she
has found it hard to break away from “sexualised” roles ever since she
started getting her first jobs – usually as sexy girls – in films such
as ‘Mannequin’ and ‘Porky’s’ in the 1980s.
She added to Reveal magazine: “I’ve been sexualised since I was a
young actress. If you want to get work as an actress – and not as a
waitress – you get sexualised. I think that can be part of your
journey, going through the Hollywood mill.
“Then you’re no longer as cute as the next crop coming up. It is
something I’ve been experiencing in one way or another in my entire
career.”
Kim – who is half English – said she has found a better attitude in
Europe, where she has received wide praise for her role in London play
‘Private Lives’ and in 2010 European shot thriller ‘The Ghost’.
She said: “One of the reasons I’ve come to Europe is because they tend
to think a little bit differently about getting older than people in
North America do.”

Harvey Weinstein splits from Halston

Harvey Weinstein has left fashion label Halston.

The movie mogul – whose wife Georgina Chapman co-founded the brand Marchesa – held an equity stake in the company for the past several years although he had little input into the day to day running of the business.

The news of Harvey’s split from Halston comes following reports Sarah Jessica Parker recently ended her working relationship with the iconic label after serving as president.

Although no formal announcement has been made by either party, the split was alluded to in a recent interview the star completed with US Vogue.

A line in the interview reads: “When ‘Sex and the City’, to her own surprise, made her a fashion star, she launched her own design label and perfumes, as well assigning on to run the Halston Heritage label, a relationship that recently came to an end.”

Although insiders have claimed the future of the brand is now in doubt, designer Kevan Hall, who has worked with the label told The Daily Beast: “You’ve got this incredible iconic brand that fashion people remember-the brand DNA is strong. It’s just a question of whose hands it’s in, who’s the design director, and who’s in place managing the brand.”

Highest Paid Actresses: Angelina Jolie and Sarah Jessica Parker Lead.

Angelina Jolie and Sarah Jessica Parker were the highest paid actresses of last year.

The Hollywood beauties tied at the top of the list, compiled by Forbes magazine, earning $30 million each.

Angelina’s earnings come mainly from her starring roles in two big budget action movies, ‘Salt’ and ‘The Tourist’, the latter of which earned $280 million at the box office.

Meanwhile, Sarah Jessica made most of her money from the series ‘Sex and the City’, both from TV re-runs and the second movie, which took $290 million at the box office.

As well as money from ‘Sex and the City’, the actress has a successful line of perfumes, including ‘Lovely’, ‘Covet’ and ‘NYC’, which made her $18 million in 2010. She has also ventured into fashion, designing clothes for the Halston brand.

Taking joint third place on the list were Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon, who each earned $28 million.

The former ‘Friends’ star – who has experienced a string of flop movies, including 2008’s ‘Management’, which generated less than $1 million – took home high pay cheques from ‘The Bounty Hunter, which made $136 million and ‘Just Go With It,’ which was the fourth-highest grossing film of her career to date.

In fifth place, Julia Roberts tied with ‘Twilight Saga’ actress Kristen Stewart, with them both earning $20 million in the last financial year.

To calculate the stars’ earnings, Forbes collated figures from agents, lawyers and producers and other movie industry figures.

The earnings presented are estimates for the financial year running from May 1, 2010 and May 1, 2011 and consist of pre-tax gross figures, without management, agent and attorney fees deducted.
