Dicepeople Music Profile

This music profile is a particular favourite: Dicepeople is a progressive audiovisual collaboration between Matt Brock and Rafael Filomeno. Brock plays and produces the music, and Rafael is the visual artist.

Dicepeople music profile

Dicepeople was originally set up in London, UK in the mid 1990s as an electronic side project when Brock was more heavily involved with industrial acts Noise Union and Replikator. In 2008, however, Brock transformed Dicepeople into his primary musical project and, with it, aimed to go beyond pure electronic music.

Dicepeople – Promo video from Dicepeople on Vimeo.

The tagline for Dicepeople is “dark electronica for the body and mind” because the aim is to create music which combines driving beats with evocative and emotionally engaging harmonies and melodies. The music has an electronic foundation with industrial and EBM components, and it mixes real instruments and voices with synthesisers to add cinematic depth and intensity.

Rafael joined in 2013 as a visual artist to take Dicepeople forward into the audiovisual realm that was always intended for it. The epic, visceral visuals produced by Rafael perfectly complement the powerful filmic soundscapes from Brock.

Dicepeople were nominated for consideration for the 2014 Glastonbury Emerging Talent Competition shortlist by the judge Mark Muldoon, who said: “I’m nominating this dark electro-gothy outfit mainly for their full Soundcloud collection of 19 songs; there’s a remarkably high standard being maintained here”.

Dicepeople are currently working on a new studio album which will be released shortly.

The name “Dicepeople” is taken from the book The Dice Man by Luke Rhinehart, and the comparison to diceliving is reflected in the wide range of influences and schizophrenic moments found in the music and visuals. Dicepeople recordings and performances incorporate a large variety of styles and genres; but the mood, intensity and dark atmosphere provide the necessary coherence and consistency to bind them together.

Dicepeople influences cover a very broad range of musicians, filmmakers and visionaries including Art of Noise, Black Sabbath, Can, David Cronenberg, David Lynch, Depeche Mode, The Doors, Front 242, The Future Sound of London, Hoodlum Priest, John Barry, John Carpenter, KMFDM, Marshall McLuhan, Massive Attack, Mike Figgis, My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult, Nine Inch Nails, Oliver Stone, Pink Floyd, The Prodigy, Quentin Tarantino, Siouxsie Sioux, Tangerine Dream and Underworld.

CONVICTS TAKE OVER CHILDREN'S CHARITIES

On April 22, 2014, the band released their debut, Come Clean, with a portion of the album sales also going to support both charities.

KT (singer) and Evan (drummer) have a deep, personal connection with both charities.  “Our son, Hayden, spent the first 4 weeks of his life at Kosair before he passed away 3 months later.  The nurses there took excellent care of our boy and they were just amazing all around.  I’m so happy we can finally give something back,” – KT.

Kosair Childrens’ Hospital is Kentucky’s only full-service, free-standing pediatric care facility dedicated exclusively to caring for children and is an advocate for the health and well-being of all children.

Ronald McDonald House Charities is a place families of seriously ill children call home during crisis and uncertainty.  Since opening their doors, they have helped more than 70,000 family members from all 50 states and several international locations.  Since opening their doors 30 years ago, they have given more than $1,000,000 in grants to organizations that support children.

The Most Perfect Songs Ever: Part One

While listening to ‘Memphis Tennessee’ by Chuck Berry something struck me: the song is perfect. It has everything: great lyrics, a great story, melody. It even has a twist. The same is true with Sam Cooke’s ‘A Change Gonna Come’ and ‘Love is a Losing Game’ by Amy Winehouse.

I then asked my friends on Twitter and Facebook what their ‘perfect’ songs where. It’s a wide scope my friend, Monty, pointed out. ‘What makes something perfect?’ It was a good question. Truth is: perfection is hard to pinpoint. It is something that just ‘is’. A sigh-worthy song that you listen to for the rest of your life. You might not listen to it for a while, but it will always return.

I quickly found out that this was going to be harder than I thought so I have decided to do it in parts. So here is part one. Let me know what you think.

Chuck Berry ‘Memphis Tennessee’

Amy Winehouse ‘Love is a Losing Game’

The Temptations ‘I Wish It Would Rain’

Neil Young ‘My My, Hey Hey (Out Of The Blue)’

Stevie Wonder ‘For Once In My Life’

Adele ‘Someone Like You’

This has 354,636,439 views on YouTube!

Sam Cooke ‘A Change Is Gonna Come’

John Legend ‘All of Me’

Elvis Costello ‘A Good Year For The Roses’

Ellie Goulding ‘How Long Will I Love You’

Judy Garland ‘Somewhere Over The Rainbow’

Sam Sparro ‘I Wish I Never Met You’

Lana Del Ray ‘Born To Die’

Jay Z ’99 Problems’

Pharrel ‘Happy’

Blue Swede ‘Hooked On A Feeling’

Sarah McLachlan ‘Angel’

Johnny Cash ‘Hurt’

Now that we have kicked off the list, what song would you add? Let us know via the comments or by emailing frostmagazine@gmail.com

Bio:
Prague is the adopted home of Latimer House, whose foundations were  laid in 2010 when drummer and percussionist Ji?í (George) Kominek  (from Toronto) and guitarist Joe Cook (London) booked a rehearsal room  to jam song ideas. Keyboard player Anar Yusufov (Baku) joined later  that year and in early 2011 bassist Michael Jetton (Virginia) moved in  to help nail it all together.

In May 2012 they went into Prague’s Faust Studios for the first of  several sessions with engineer Derek Saxenmeyer to record their  collection of songs, ten of which were selected for All The Rage. The  last track they recorded was their first release: This Is Pop.

Joe, Jirí, Anar and Michael like a wide range of music, from classic  1960s and 1970s pop and rock, through funk, folk and New Wave, to  obscure experimental rock, jazz and contemporary alternative sounds.  All four have played in various bands down the years, with Ji?í and  Anar still busy with musical projects aside from Latimer House. Their  different backgrounds and interests all come through in their music,  although Joe’s vocal delivery certainly puts an English stamp on  proceedings!

All The Rage would not be what it is without the patience and skills  of engineer Derek Saxenmeyer, the mandolin and violin of Jim Thompson,  who came over from England to play, the guitar work of Justin Lavash,  a good stalwart of Prague’s blues and jazz bars, the trumpet blowing  of Tommy Levvechia, and Jan Keller, the world’s coolest cellist who  sports a Mohican and plays virtuoso fretless bass in a modern jazz  quartet when not playing with the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra. These  guys brought additional range and dynamic to the songs and sound of Latimer House.

Four Or Five More Johnny Cash Albums Coming Says Son

Good news for Johnny Cash fans: His son, John Carter Cash, says that there are several more albums worth of previously unreleased records in his archive, along with some outtakes from his father’s American Recordings sessions.

new Johnny-Cash albums to be released

John said to the Guardian: “There are a few things that are in the works right now – probably four or five albums if we wanted to release everything, There may be three or four albums’ worth of American Recordings stuff, but some of it may never see the light of day.”

Out Among the Stars, which was recorded in the Eighties, was released this week.

American Sessions producer, Rick Rubin said: “We released the work we had been planning to release along with John [Carter Cash] and the idea of the Unearthed box set of outtakes was his idea, We will probably put out additional unearthed material recorded since the last unearthed box, in keeping with John’s wishes.”

There are 12 previously unreleased Cash tracks on Out Among the Stars recorded between 1981 and 1984. Including duets with June Carter Cash and Waylon Jennings.
