Could you be The Next Landscape Photographer of The Year?

The search for the Landscape Photographer of the Year 2015 begins

Could you be the next Landscape Photographer of the Year? Could you be the next Landscape Photographer of the Year?2

L to R, from the 2014  Award: Heather in Bloom, North York Moors by John Robinson and Sunrise at Winnats Pass, Derbyshire by Sven Mueller

Entry for the ninth annual Take a view Landscape Photographer of the Year Award is now open and entrants have until July 12 to submit their photographs of the British landscapeThe Landscape Photographer of the Year is one of the world’s most exciting photography awards and the brainchild of renowned landscape photographer, Charlie Waite. The competition is open to everyone, with a special class for those younger than 17, and each entrant can submit 25 photographs across four categories. There is a prize fund worth £20,000, including £10,000 for the overall winner and additional prizes within each category.

As in previous years, an exhibition of shortlisted and winning entries will premiere in the late autumn. Previous locations for the annual showcase have included the National Theatre and London Waterloo Station. Shortlisted entrants will also be published in stunning coffee-table book Landscape Photographer of the Year: Collection 9,published by The AA, and described by The Times as a ‘coffee-table staple’.

Last year’s winner was Cumbria-based photographer Mark Littlejohn, who won with an enigmatic shot of a mountain stream in Glencoe, Scotland.

The Landscape Photographer of the Year is unique in that is celebrates the United Kingdom only, offering photographers worldwide an opportunity to showcase their images of Britain. From stark moorland to angular cityscapes, and from rocky coastlines to  lush woodland, Britain’s remarkable landscape and volatile weather provides generous material to fire the imagination.

Photographers living outside the UK are encouraged to enter and there is a special prize offered by the competition’s sponsors for the best image from an overseas entrant (The Countryside is GREAT award).

The 2015 Awards are being held in association with VisitBritain and Countryside is GREAT. Jasmine Teer, VisitBritain’s Photography Manager, said: “Photographs that showcase the best of Britain play a vital role in VisitBritain’s mission: to raise our profile and inspire people all over the world to come and experience this beautiful country. We are very proud to support the Landscape Photographer of the Year Awards and hope that, as part of Countryside is GREAT, we will encourage not only UK entrants but photographers from all over the world.”

Awards founder, Charlie Waite, added: “Now, more than ever, I think we are realising how important the British landscape is to our wellbeing. The feeling that we get when we shut the office door and escape to a green space, whether it be a small park or a vast mountain, is unique and of vital importance. Our landscape is a place in which to breathe and to create.”

Entries for the Landscape Photographer of The Year competition are now open until July 12, via www.take-a-view.co.uk. This year’s competition is run in association with Visit Britain and Countryside is GREAT.

The competition drew the attention of the international press, together with a generous gathering of modelling cognoscenti who had given support and advice to the contestants.

With over 600 guests in place, lights down and music up, models sashayed in turn along the catwalk, communicating enthusiasm and nerves but above all the determination to become an award-winner in Top Model UK and Top Model Worldwide.

Grand finalist recruitment for Top Model takes place over a four-five month period between July and December each year, with the Top Model team searching the length and breadth of the UK, and internationally, for the best new up-and-coming model talent.
Top Model is not a beauty pageant but prides itself on a pure model search ethos. All of the top prizes and opportunities for the finalists and award winners are focused on the fashion, beauty and model industries. The grand finalist selections and the awards are all decided by industry experts, not by public voting, with top couture designers and brands from around the world dressing the eventual finalists in professionally produced, fully choreographed runway show finals.
In addition to Top Model being a major UK and International model search, each year, Top Model adopts a chosen charity to support. For 2015, Top Model once again supported leading childhood cancer charity CHILDREN with CANCER UK (www.childrenwithcancer.org.uk), raising over £22,000 from the 2015 search and having amassed an impressive £75,000+ over six years.

Words For The Wounded Writing Prize Closes On 11 March

W4WLogoAlt3 Words for the Wounded writing prize closes on 11 March. two grannies Why on earth do three grannies (two shown above) throw themselves out of a plane, strapped to a fit young man, hoping their parachutes open? Well, OK, the fit young man is a bit of a clue. But seriously, why? pic2 janairborne The reasons lie in the past and the present. In the past, both my grandfathers survived the first world war, so just as there were thankful villages who had lost no men, so too there were thankful families. But life isn’t that simple, is it? Gentle Percy, my mother’s father survived but took his own life in 1923. War has long, relentless tentacles which reach out and destroy families, just as surely as bullets do. pic3 poppies Then, about four years ago I met a young  man and his wife. They were both under twenty five. She was pushing him in his wheelchair; his portable ventilator lay on his chest. He’d been shot through the neck in Helmand and is tetraplegic, (paralysed from the neck down). They were both smiling and cheerful but their hopes and dreams were very different now, and everyday life was a mountain in itself.   I decided that, as writers, my two granny friends and I could help not just the wounded, but also aspiring writers. We founded Words for the Wounded and were enormously lucky in our patrons, amongst whom are Julian Fellowes, Louis de Berniers, Katie Fforde, Paddy Ashdown and many others. Julian Fellowes   We decided also that we would earn our donations, not just appeal to the generosity of others; hence the skydive, and hence the Mud Challenge Obstacle Course in August, and hence the LitFest to be held at High Wycombe on 18th April  2015 with Katie Fforde and two Midsomer Murders writers amongst others.   katie-fforde Our main thread, however, is our writing prizes. We have the short category for poetry/fiction/memoir – up to 400 words, with prize money of £400. Entry fee £4.50   This year we are launching The Independent Author Book Award for fiction or memoir, with a 1st prize of a Palamedes PR professional press release. pic 6 palamedes.jpg And a biography and review in Frost Magazine.  Entry fee £12.50 pic7Frost The WforW grannies absorb ALL the costs themselves, so every penny raised goes to the wounded. Our troops put their lives on the line for us, some are killed, many, many,  more sustain life-changing injuries. To help them is the aim of Words for the Wounded. They deserve the best.
