Tilbury | Music Profile

Icelandic band Tilbury was founded by drummer Thormodur Dagsson (Skakkamange, Jeff Who?, Hudson Wayne) back in the summer of 2010 and was originally intended as a solo project, named Formadur Dagsbrunar, but quickly evolved into the full blown monster of a band that is Tilbury. The band play a sort of folk-synth-pop sound, not dissimilar to Grandaddy. It’s led by the synthesizers of Kristinn Evertsson (ex Valdimar) and the lush guitar sound of Orn Eldjarn (ex Brother Grass). Gudmundur Oskar (Hjaltalin) decorates the sound with his French-ish baselines and drummer Magnus Trygvason Eliasen (Sin Fang, Amiina, Moses Hightower) binds it all together with his dynamic drumming.

The band half from ultra cool Reykjavík in Iceland. Everyone I met during a holiday there was in a band. I guess with up to 20 hours of darkness a day during winter it makes sense to play rock n roll to cure the boredom. The band’s Exorcise LP has been one of my favourite album’s this year. An absolute gem of a record.

Tilbury’s debut album, ‘Exorcise’, was released in May 2012 on Record Records. Check it out here. Also have a watch/listen to the opening track from the album, ‘Tenderloin’, below:

Our Burgundy | Music Profile

I must admit I don’t know a lot about Our Burgundy but what I do know is that they rock! They’re two kids from Pomfret, Conneticut, Seth David Christian (guitar/vocals) and Alex Herr (drums), who have created a sort of Bush meets White Stripes sound. Don’t take my word for it, have a watch of their ‘Bad Things’ video below:

Traditional Roles Changing For Men.

Father’s day has been and gone but one thing is becoming clear: the times there are a changin’.
Online marketplace notonthehighstreet.com reveals the evolution of ‘Dad’ with nationwide survey.

A survey of over 1,000 respondents has found that modern day fathers are more likely to be seen in the kitchen preparing the evening meal, or with a duster and hoover sprucing up the house, in comparison to the ‘traditional’ idea of fathers whose primary role was seen to be working and other stereotypical male roles. The nationwide survey showing that while 77% of respondents recall the traditional primary role of the father from their own childhoods to be concerned with earning the keep, 70% now view the modern day father’s primary role to be cooking.

Further results from the survey showed the following:

* When growing up, respondents remember their father’s taking on roles such as working, painting and decorating, DIY, gardening and taking the bins out.
* When asked which roles the modern day father is known for, the top three primary roles were cooking (70%), shopping (61%) and cleaning (58%)
* Results showed that modern day fathers are 48% less likely to discipline their children in comparison to the generation of fathers before them.
* Results also found that the modern day father is much more likely to take an active, fun parental role with their children. It was found that fathers are now 49% more likely to spend time playing with their children and 48% more likely to take their children to school.

Kate Middleton Has To Curtsy To ‘Blood’ Royals.

Kate Middleton may now be the Duchess of Cambridge, but she has been told that she must bow to ‘blood’ royals when her Prince is not around.

Middle-class Middleton has come a long way but the Queen has updated the Order of Precedence to account for the Duke of Cambridge’s wife.

Kate must curtsy to the “blood princesses”, the Princess Royal, Princess Alexandra, and the daughters of the Duke of York, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie when Prince William is not around as she does not have any blue blood in her veins.

When her husband is with her she only has to curtsy to the Prince of Wales, the Duchess of Cornwall, the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh.

If Kate thinks she has it bad then give the Countess of Wessex is probably even less happy, she has to curtsy to Kate even when William is not there.

The last time the order was updated after Prince Charles married Camilla the Countess of Wessex then had to curtsy to Camilla. According to a courtier: “She didn’t like it one bit,”

The Queen has changed the Order of Precedence “on blood principles”

What do you think? Would you curtsy to The Queen or another member of the Royal household?
