Moshi Moshi Restaurant Review

I love Asian food and was quite excited when we got invited to review Moshi Moshi. It was their 20th anniversary, an impressive achievement in London where restaurants can struggle.

20 years ago, Caroline Bennett brought the first Japanese kaiten (conveyor belt) restaurant to the UK and opened in Liverpool Street Station to an astounded and hugely positive reception from critics and diners. It is fair to say that most Londoners had never seen anything like it. Caroline went on to pioneer the ideals of good sushi in the UK and democratised this beautiful Japanese cuisine which 20 years on, has become ubiquitous with the UK dining scene.

Our initial reaction was that the venue was beautiful. Very trendy and in a great location. Where we sat we could watch the trains come and go. The chairs are also very comfortable. After we took our seats we ordered some Prosecco Brut, Terra Di Sant’Alberto NV Italy Bottle. This was very good Prosecco and was a great start to our meal.

For our starter we had Gyoza dumplings, Organic prawn tempura and Cornish crab & avocado sushi. These were all just stunning and came with wonderful sauces. The prawns were nice and juicy. The batter was perfect and crispy: Fresh & plump. The dumplings were amazing and I loved the sauce they came in. The sushi was as amazing as expected.

For our mains we had Rib eye steak teriyaki: 21 day hung Suffolk grass fed beef, sweet potato chips, seasonal greens and Cornish kabayaki: the sustainable answer to unagi eel teriyaki. The steak is very good, it is little pieces rather than a huge chunk of meat. The chips were also amazing and very unique as they were very thin. The seasonal greens were good and the sauce was brilliant but I would have liked just a little more. Not much, just a little.

My colleague had the eel and said she would have liked it to have been softer and more tender. This could just be the Japanese way of cooking it however. The sauce was good, sweet and tangy as expected, but there was not enough of it and she ended up putting some soy sauce on her meal. So, more sauce!

After our prosecco we had some Fentimans Curiosity Cola. We had never had it before and it was brilliant- like a fizzy cola bottle.

For our dessert we had the Dessert Platter.

This included Lemon Panna Cotta, Matcha and Black Sesame Ice-Cream and some Mochi, which is a traditional delicacy from Japan.

The dessert was very different from our usual desserts and was a lot less sweet. The mochi was tasty and interesting. Lots of coconut and a little bit chocolaty. The panna cotta was good, very sweet. The ice cream was interesting: we loved the sesame side but the matcha tea ice cream was too bitter for our taste. It was very unique though and if you love green tea, you would love it.

We liked the food at Moshi Moshi. It was very good and the location and venue were also great. Prices are reasonable. Their sushi is also great and should definitely be tried.

Facebook ‘Likes’ More Important Than Birthday Cards

‘LIKES’ OVERTAKE CARDS AND CAKES AS HOW WE MEASURE THE SUCCESS OF OUR BIRTHDAYS

The impact of social media has totally revolutionised how we celebrate our birthdays according to new research by leading gift card company One4All.

Facebook has become the number one way we wish our friends and loved ones a happy birthday.  76% of us will post a greeting to friends on social media and a quarter of people say that the number of messages they receive is the main way they would measure the success of their birthday.

The research also suggests that many of the traditions that would normally make our day special are being undermined.

60% of people say that they rarely take their birthday as a day off from work and only 15% of people said that they would always have a birthday cake.

The main reason for having a low-key birthday is stress.  A third of people say that they find their own birthdays stressful and would rather celebrate someone else’s.

Declan Byrne, Managing Director UK of One4all, says, “Social media now plays a huge part in all of our lives and it’s interesting to see how it has impacted on the traditional birthday.

“It’s a social shift that is affecting many businesses who provide a service linked to birthday celebrations.  For example, it’s led to us creating online group gifting, where friends can come together through social media to contribute to a joint gift.”

As a result of these findings One4All is also attempting to raise awareness of the need to keep birthday’s special and is launching a social media campaign for people to ‘out’ Birthday Scrooges and encourage them to have a proper, traditional birthday celebration.

“While times do change, it would be nice to think that birthdays will retain their special status,” says Declan. “As a result we want to encourage people to make sure they still take time out to celebrate with friends and family.”

Cheryl Cole's ex-husband Ashley is planning to propose.

Cheryl Cole’s ex-husband Ashley is planning to propose to her for a second time.

The 28-year-old singer and the soccer ace – who divorced in 2010 amid claims he had cheated on her with five women – wants to re-marry his ex-wife and is now looking for the “biggest” diamond he can find to get down on one knee, so the pair can start a family.

A source told The Sun newspaper: “He is convinced Cheryl will agree to marry him and wants the biggest diamond he can get.

“She’s desperate to start a family but he knows she’ll want to do it as a married woman.”

Cheryl – who has had a makeover with newly blonde hair following her sacking from the US version of ‘X Factor’ – spent the afternoon with Ashley’s mother Sue at her home in Chigwell, Essex, yesterday and she is “glad” to have her former daughter-in-law back in her life.

A source said: “Sue is incredibly fond of Cheryl and is forever singing her praises. She says she is so glad to have her daughter-in-law back.

“She realises how insanely happy Cheryl makes Ashley and believes they are a good team. Sue saw the positive impact which Cheryl had on Ashley. She loves her son and wants the best for him – as far as she is concerned Cheryl was nothing but a positive influence”

However, Cheryl’s mother Joan is not so keen on the reunion, and was upset seeing them together at the Girls Aloud star’s 28th birthday party on Friday night .

A source told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “Joan has Cheryl’s best interests at heart. She is the person who is most open and honest with her and was there to pick up the pieces when they split.”

She reportedly said at Cheryl’s party: “I don’t want her to have him back. I’ll never forgive him for what he did to her.”

Meanwhile, Ashley has confirmed he is opening a restaurant and club in central London with hip-hop mogul Jay-Z.

He said: “I’m delighted to be working with Jay-Z. I have grown up listening to his music so to be doing business with him is amazing.”

Jay-Z added: “It’ll be the hottest place in town.”

Cheryl Cole celebrates 28th birthday

Cheryl Cole celebrated her 28th birthday at London’s Sanderson Hotel last night.

The former ‘X Factor’ star partied with friends including Nicola Roberts, Kimberley Walsh and Black Eyed Peas singer will.i.am, Cheryl is trying to get over her shock sacking from the US version of the show.

A friend told The Sun newspaper: ‘Her moping about ‘The X Factor’ is over. She’s determined to jumpstart her career. She still has America in her sights.’

Cheryl wore Stella McCartney white dress for the occasion.

Ex-husband Ashley did not make an appearance despite rumour’s the couple are back together.

Cheryl has only been seen in public twice since she was replaced by Nicole Scherzinger on ‘The X Factor’, the other time at the US embassy in London earlier this week – she wanted to let her fans know she was doing fine.

She wrote on her website: ‘I have had the time that I have not had in so long to just chill with my loved ones and do the normal things that I like to do. See my friends and family and be with my doggys. It feels long overdue and sooooo good, even my feet are happy to not have to wear a pair of high heels hehe.

‘It also breaks my heart a little when i hear that some of you worry about me and need to know that I am ok, so I want to PROMISE you that I am absolutely fine and more than OK! (sic)’
