Get Lisbeth Salander Style

The catwalk may be a sea of pastel colours and grown up, Mad-Men-style clothes, but, really, who wants to conform? Certainly not Lisbeth Salander from The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

The piercings, the tattoos, the incredibly cool hair do; she certainly strikes out on her own. She wears a lot of black, vests, hoodies, black trousers. She has a touch of goth but she is very striking. If you are feeling daring in time for summer, get her look.

Chase PR AW12 Press Preview: Brand Watch

I went along to Chase PR’s press preview. They have some brilliant brands and I picked out some brands to watch.

Butterfly Twists. This are great fold-able shoes and boots. Perfect to have in your bag to whip out when the heels start to hurt.

Daniel Hechter – Crease proof tailored suits. A brilliant idea. A range for travellers and commuters.

Sebago shoes. Most of the brands are using the patriotic colours of red, blue and white for the Olympic/Jubilee year. Sebago have a great new range of shoes.

I love Cat footwear. They also do heels and boots now.

These glasses go dark in the sun and become sunglasses – so cool.

Storm – the only British watch brand. They do great watches and jewellery.

Energie have some great colourful jeans and Christmas type jumpers.

Gok Wan also has a new line of shapewear out.

Red or Dead have great clothes – lots of lace- and some really awesome shoes. Including some green sequined ones. I like!

Miss Sixty. A lot of clothes have a grown-up vibe. Influences from Mad Men and Pam Am. There is a definite vintage vibe. As well as coloured denim.

Patagonia

Bright, coloured waterproof coats.

Geox has a brilliant range of breathable shoes. They stop your feet getting too hot.

And of course...Paul Costelloe. A designer legend.

Leo Bancroft launch party

Last night I attended  the brilliant launch of Leo Bancroft’s new product range at The Ivy Club. It was celebrity packed with Ruth Langsford, Derek Chisora, Matt Johnson, Liam Botham, Amy Willerton, Nancy Sorrell and Vic Reeves, Lembit Opik, Javine Hylton, Mem Ferda and many more attending.

Ruth Langsford said, “Leo has always been a great hairdresser and I am a big fan, he has been doing my hair for years. I highly recommend Leo and his line of products to everyone, and we love him at This Morning.”

It is not only the models and catwalks that love Leo, but since becoming This Morning’s hairstylist, Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes are both his biggest fans and loyal customers, as well as a list of celebrity clients and friends, including the Chelsea football team and their families, Peter Crouch, Abbey Clancy, and Kirsty Gallagher.

Leo has launched his 17-product line, bringing catwalk and celebrity glamour to his full product line and the high street. His unrivaled range of products delivers you beyond professional hair care, allowing you to replicate his award-winning styles and acclaimed approaches to create ‘the best version of you’.

Leo’s range is hot with celebrities. I have tried it and I like it. His new range at Tesco is brilliant but reasonably priced.  Leo’s range is now available exclusively in 500 Tesco stores UK-wide. Get your hands on some if you can.

Romantics Anonymous | Film Review

This is an absolutely wonderful film. It just made me smile all the way through it.

Romantics Anonymous is a film about Jean-René, the boss of a small chocolate factory which is about to go bankrupt, and Angélique, a gifted chocolate maker he has just hired as a sales rep. They are both highly emotional and shy. They fall in love but neither of them have the emotional capacity to handle it. Will they work out their differences and live happily ever after? Maybe. And will Angélique get over her shyness and save the Chocolate Mill with her talent for making chocolate? There are a few false starts, especially when Angélique gets stood up by Jean- René. They love each other but can they make it work?

Romantics Anonymous is a very smart film. It has a good premise and the plot does not let you down. This film is the perfect anecdote to depression or a bad day. It is just brilliant. Well-written, well-acted, a little gem of a film. Even if you don’t like French films, or subtitles; watch it.

Five stars. I would definitely watch this again.

Are The Good Times Really Over For Good?

For someone in their twenties it is hard to think of a time which has been harder economically than right now. But I do know that this is not true. There have been many booms and busts before, times much harder than this. Rationing, world wars, the great depression.

But what of the future? My generation seems to have gotten the muddy end of the stick. The OECD, a respected British think tank, said that Britain has slipped into a double dip recession and more pupils than ever are getting free school meals, the governments indicator of a child growing up in poverty. Tube drivers might be raking it in, getting paid £500 just to show up for work each day during the Olympics, but the rest of us are struggling.

Are the good times really over?We have become generation rent, unemployment is high, we not only have a harder time getting our dream job, but getting any job at all. I have friends that are moving out of West London where I live because they cannot afford it, struggling to find jobs and even if they have one, struggling to survive the squeeze.

Not getting to the nitty gritty. Tuition fees are up to a staggering amount, 9K a year for an education, transport costs go up above inflation every year; the Oyster caps at £10 per day in London. Then there is the fact that if you get an unpaid internship these days you are one of the lucky ones. It seems everyone is taking everything from the young. I am luckier than most. My education days are behind me and so are my internships: but if the children really are the future, then what of it? Are the good times really over for good? Everything from stamps and food is going up. Petrol is so expensive people cannot even get to work and the government is looking shifty after the cash-for-access scandal. Never mind the fact we don’t have any privacy anymore and they are trying to bring in web-monitoring.

Government debt is at a £988.7 billion. And who is going to have to pay that off? The decent, hard working people of Britain. Oh well. We can always print some more money.

What good will come from this? Lessons maybe. We lived in a society that saw the word ‘credit’ and did not take in the fact that actually means ‘debt’. Above all we will do what the British do: keep calm and carry on. You may want to cross your fingers too.

Harvey Nichols A/W 2012

I have always though of Harvey Nichols (or Harvey Nics as us Londoners call it) as a young person’s Harrods. It has all of the luxury items, but is a bit more laid-back. I went to check out there Autumn/Winter collection and…wow.

My favourite clothes were by Jenny Packman (a Catherine Middleton favourite, and one that women who have more curves look just as amazing in. I find I would look too ‘booby’ in some of the things Middleton wears), Osman, Rag & Bone (divine), Erdem, Roksanda Llincic, McQueen, Preen and Mary Kantrantzou. A lot of amazing British designers are supported.

Lots of patterns and even some Lady Gaga type heels. All in all, a brilliant collection.

Gwyneth Paltrow chooses crack over canned food

Gwyneth Paltrow chooses crack over canned food

Gwyneth Paltrow would rather “smoke crack” than eat unhealthy food.

The 38-year-old actress is well known for her unusual dietary habits, previously being on the extremely strict macrobiotic eating plans, she revealed she was not a fan of tinned snacks.

She said: “I’d rather smoke crack than eat cheese from a can.”

The ‘Iron Man’ star – who has her own cook book ‘My Father’s Daughter…’ – also revealed she wouldn’t take her kids to fast food restaurant McDonalds, but may find it difficult if they knew about the toys that come with some meals.

Gwyneth – who has two children, daughter Apple, seven, and son Moses, five, with her husband, Coldplay singer Chris Martin – added: “I take them to Pizza Express because I think that’s much healthier. Don’t tell them there are toys!”

However, not all of her habits are so positive, and she admits drinking wine is a favourite past time of hers.

She added: “I drink wine constantly while I’m cooking. Wine, either colour.”

Despite not being a fan of calorific treats from a can, Gwyneth has previously revealed she loves “well-made” cheese, and prefers it to chocolate.

She said: “OK, it may not be the healthiest of indulgences, but cheese, really beautiful, well-made cheese, has to be one of the best things on the planet. Give me a slice of Camembert over chocolate cake any day.”
