Winchester Street Style

Fashion design really starts with street style. Everyday people out and about have no idea they could be the inspiration for the next big trend in fashion and style. Getting spotted doesn’t necessarily mean being featured on a runway or being asked to model for the latest campaign. Designers are constantly looking at everyday life for their next collections visual muse.

We decided to hit the streets of Winchester to see all the fabulous fashion that it had to offer. Winchester is becoming very well know for its Fashion Week. The last one was at the beginning of April and was a huge success. It is now a key date in the calendar in the South East. Also one of the most talked-about fashion events outside of London.

Seeing that the city is steeped in history and it used to be the former capital of England it needed some real fashion savvy reporting. So with this is mind and a camera in hand it was high time to snap away, not the models…No we wanted to see the real people of this beautiful city. The people that are more commonly known as Wintonians.

Wintonian FashionThis rather fabulous lady was elegantly gliding her way down the High Street, we just had to stop her for a snap. Totally fabulous in every way possible.IMG_1213Casual and so very polished. Matching accessories even when dressing down. IMG_1233Casual outfits done to perfection. IMG_1242Colourful accessories are not just about a vibrant scarf and cute shoes. This young lady below was strutting her flamboyant, dazzling and beautiful self along the street and we jumped at the chance to picture her. We have to say Winchester you are spectacular in every way possible! IMG_1243

FOUR PAWS Protests Against The Use Of Fur By Burberry

The launch of the new winter collection by traditional British company Burberry is one of the highlights of London Fashion Week.  Advocates from the international animal welfare organisation FOUR PAWS took the opportunity to  protest against the further utilisation of fur in front of the entrance of the Burberry marque.

London, UK | 2014 02 17 | Protest gainst Burberry

Last week, FOUR PAWS published disturbing footage of Finnish fur farms which belong to the fur auction house that supplies Burberry (Saga Furs). The pictures show the shocking reality of conditions on these farms. Foxes with missing tails in small mesh wire cages, piles of stinking excrement, conditions which fall even below the claimed minimum standards of  the fur industry. Since the publication of the video 23,500 people have already called on Burberry to withdraw their use of fur on the FOUR PAWS protest website www.befurfree.org.

Thomas Pietsch, wild animal expert at FOUR PAWS said: “About 100 million minks, foxes and racoon dogs die for the fashion industry every year worldwide. The latest footage of the Finnish farms shows: Fur produced in accordance with animal welfare does simply not exist.”

If Burberry remains true to its word, making fur redundant in its collection is vital

In reaction to the protest mails, generated since the 11th of February, Burberry communicates the following “…we would like to express to you that Burberry will not use natural hides if there is any concern that they have been produced using unacceptable treatment of animals…. we source natural hides very carefully in our efforts to safeguard the correct ethical standards and traceability.”

This positioning of the company leads FOUR PAWS to ask for steps to be taken in response to the evidence. “If the company management sticks to its word, the only sincere consequence can be the immediate abandonment of real fur products. The cruel keeping conditions of the fur bearing animals on the Saga certified farms cannot be sugar-coated.”, says Thomas Pietsch from FOUR PAWS.

This year in January the fashion company was exposed to fierce protests of the environmental protection organisation Greenpeace, who found prove for toxic residues in childrenswear. The company relented and committed to shift to risk-free chemicals in the textile production until 2020. Now the company is under fire by animal welfare supporters from all sides.

FOUR PAWS has been campaigning for a legal ban of the keeping of fur bearing animals and a European law against the trading and import of fur and fur products for many years now. Last year the international animal welfare organisation started an online campaign against large fashion companies that sell real fur, which includes Burberry.

On the protest website of FOUR PAWS, www.befurfree.org, you can call on Burberry to quit using real fur. The shocking pictures of the Finnish Saga Furs farms can be found on Youtube: http://youtu.be/yGkopsiqFMc

ONG-OAJ PAIRAM LAUNCHES NEW AW14 COLLECTION FOLLOWING A SUCESSFUL CATWALK SHOW

British-Thai designer Ong-Oaj Pairam showcased his third season yesterday during a successful runway show at Fashion Scout, Freemasons Hall. The show explored a fascination with danger, dreaming up an army of seductive super villains inspired by the designer’s all-time favourite anti-hero Ursula from the Little Mermaid and was attended by Binky, Louise and Mark from Made In Chelsea.

Ong-Oaj uses the finest British textiles and original prints, many pieces accented with hours of hand embroidery. The colour pallet reflects the warning markings of dangerous animals, dark sultry dresses are accented with toxic bright outwear and metallic snakeskin accessories. Ong-Oaj developed his prints drawing on inspiration from the darker works of American modernist artist Charlie Harper, and through an exploration of toxic animals and plants.

KTZ SS14 London Fashion Week 2013

British designers KTZ had a definite Middle Eastern vibe going down the catwalk. Some of it was great, others- like their burka inspired outfits- were more controversial. Guest on the front and second row also got some Argan oil. The middle east trend spreading in the UK has definitely reached our wardrobes.

Sorry for the quality of the photos, a video will be up soon. Unfortunately I managed to cut my hand just as we were ushered to our seats!

Handpicked Media London Fashion Week Suite SS14 | Fashion

The Handpicked Media London Fashion Week suite was as amazing as ever. As well as lots of lovely people I also got pampered and checked out some great brands.

I had my brows done by HD Brows, they looked so good afterwards I didn’t want to wash my face. Ever. I tried on some jackets from Superdry. Their tailoring is amazing and their jackets are such good quality. Superdry also have great Bento Beauty boxes. They have some great products in them and look cool.

I also had my make up done by Martin Carter. The Stila make up artist used some amazing Stila products on me, including the CC Cream which comes out blue, but looks great on. I love Stila and Martin taught me some amazing make up tricks such as; put eyeliner in between the upper lash line for a natural, defined look and to paint mascara on the bottom lashes with a brush rather than applying the mascara directly. I wish I looked how Martin made me look 24/7.

I also had a hot stone massage and a hand massage from The Mandara Spa. I am completely converted to hot stone massage now. My spine and hands were never so happy. I felt completely relaxed and happy. I highly recommend them.

I also had a bra fitting thanks to Freya lingerie. Like most women I found out I was wearing the wrong size. Apparently women think their back is larger than it is, this turned out to be true for me as I thought I was a 34D but am actually a 30DD. I love my Freya Lingerie, below.

I had a relaxing manicure. I always love getting manicures. When my nails look good and are painted just looking at them makes me happy, even if I am having a bad day. WAH nails gave me some great blue polka dot nails. I love them.

Legendary hair dresser Errol Douglas was also doing hair. My fellow bloggers/writers were walking out with amazing hair styles. Unfortunately I had to head off to a show so couldn’t get one myself.

I managed to pick up some products in the suite at One Aldwych Hotel and will be reviewing them in the coming months.

Well done Handpicked Media, see you in six months.

Do you want to try any of the above? Which one?
