Could stress and heartbreak be the cause of Kristen Stewart’s hair loss woes? The Twilight star has been recently spotted with a large bald patch on the side of her head, fuelling rumours that she has been struggling to deal with the recent post break up stress from her ex, Robert Pattison.

A recent study by Nourkrin, found that 89% of women questioned found stress had been a major influence on the health of their hair, with it causing thinning and in some cases major hair loss.

The photo provides a rare glimpse of the star’s natural hair – she is usually wearing a cap and hair extensions when filming or being seen in public.

It’s not only image-conscious stars like Kirsten relying on extensions to add volume to their hair. The survey also found that two thirds of UK GPs have seen a rise in the number of women distressed and seeking help with hair loss with 70% of these hair loss cases being down to an increase in stress levels.

Dr. Wendy Denning, a Harley Street GP with a specific interest in women’s health comments: “I have seen many cases of thinning hair and hair loss over the years. Although most people think of hair loss being a problem for men, it is surprisingly common for women after the menopause and increasingly in young women. Of course there are many reasons for hair loss including hormonal changes, poor nutrition and certain medications – but one of the most common reasons that is on the rise, is stress-related hair loss”.

Celebrity hairdresser Jo Hansford MBE, whose clients include Angelina Jolie and Gwynenth Paltrow comments “Many of my clients are concerned about hair loss, whether it’s due to stress, hormonal changes such as being pregnant, or general over styling issues. Whatever the problem, it feels good to help them by explaining the benefits of Nourkrin. This is a natural, scientifically proven supplement for thinning hair, hair loss and general hair maintenance. Over time I have really seen the difference that Nourkrin makes to encourage hair growth and to the renewed confidence it gives my clients.”

South West Hair Loss Salon provides help for women like Nadine Dorries and Esther Rantzen

South West “Hair Loss” Salon provides help for women like Nadine Dorries and Esther Rantzen who have spoken out about hair loss and thin hair

With celebrities like Esther Rantzen and MP Nadine Dorries highlighting the problems of thin hair and hair loss, more women are seeking out the services of Simone Thomas from Make-up, Wigs and Hair (MWAH) in Bournemouth.

This week Conservative MP and “I’m a Celebrity Get Me out of Here” contestant Nadine Dorries revealed her own hair loss brought on by a stressful year and her reaction to it. She called the condition a “confidence stealer,” likening it to when women have a mastectomy.

She said: “You’re losing your confidence and you’re losing your ability to go out and actually face the world because you think what identifies a woman are her hair and her breasts.”

Her announcement comes after Esther Rantzen revealed that she has worn a wig for over 30 years because of her own thin hair, but criticised the quality and staying powers of her own wigs.

[image]Simone Thomas who runs MWAH Bournemouth knows exactly how both these celebrities feel as she lost her own hair twice as a result of alopecia and then cervical cancer. Having worked in TV, Film and Magazine Modelling since the age of 18 Simone was forced to look for ways to cover up her hair loss, but found there was little on the market except for cheap and nasty looking wigs.

After taking several courses in Specialist Hair Extensions & Hair Loss Systems Simone set up a business that provides professional makeup services, hair extensions and hair loss systems to clients all over the UK and Europe. She sources the best products and systems and has a range of clientele that includes celebrities, TV companies, photographers and agents.

Simone has recently moved to Dorset from London and has opened her first all encompassing salon in Bournemouth called MWAH Bournemouth – Makeup, Wigs & Hair. Through her research she found there was nowhere in the South that catered for women who have suffered with hair loss from cancer treatment, thinning hair, premature fine hair, receding hair loss, female pattern hair loss, alopecia, trichotillomania, temporary hair loss or women who want thicker longer hair through safe hair extensions that are glue and adhesive free. With over 3 million dying from breast cancer in the region she identified a real need.

Simone says, “At my salon we don’t just find a solution to the hair loss or thinning but try to help with the underlying causes where we can, sometimes referring the client to a therapist and of course making sure that our products are free from any parabens that are linked to cancer.”

Hair loss is always going to be traumatic for the person involved, but as Nadine Dorries says, there is help available for both men and women who suffer from conditions like alopecia and temporary hair loss. MWAH Bournemouth means that there is now an expert service in the South West to help anyone who suffers from this condition.

Nioxin: The Cure For Thinning Hair?

Did you know that thinning hair affects about 50% of people? Not just men, but women too? That is one in two people globally. A number of factors cause this: anemia, having a baby (after two months the hair that had not fallen out does so and results in thinning hair and, sometimes, baldness), lack or iron, stress, medication, trauma, health problems, UV damage (though in moderation the sun helps, hair always looks better at the end of summer, because we used to need our hair to be thicker in winter to keep us warm), being a vegetarian, using straighteners or curling irons and pattern baldness, which is inherited. Hair has no function anymore, as it is a luxury it is the first thing to go or look worse when you are ill or run down. It is the first thing the body will shut off.

There are things you can do. Wayne Rooney recently had a hair transplant, but those are costly and with differing results. It is a long operation. 9-5 and if someone explains what happens to you, you will feel ill; trust me.

There are three factors in hair thinning

1) Fewer hair strands

2) Finer hair strands

3) Unhealthy scalp environment for hair to grow from.

Nioxin is a product that says it can manage the condition to give you thicker and fuller hair through a holistic approach.  Most other products are drug-based or camouflage. It is the No.1 stylist recommended thinning-hair brand in the USA, it has won the Stylist Choice Award every year for 10 years, and has millions of loyal customers in America. Phew, but does it work?

Nioxin is based on scalp health, like a facial for hair. Over 70% of users notice thicker- fuller hair in 30 days. Cosmetics products do not grow hair, they take care of scalp health and your hair. Nioxin is tailored to your specific hair type and it is best to use all of the products together, apparently you will be able to measure the hair thickness.

Hair grows at one-half inch each month or 6 inches in a year.

The lovely people at Nioxin have given me one of their hair system kits to review. The kit carries a money back guarantee and has a 100ml cleanser, 100ml scalp revitalizer and a 50ml scalp treatment. It costs £27.99. I have fine hair so we will see if it makes a difference. I love my hair but would love more oomph. So far I am loving the tingling, waking up feeling it has on my scalp. It feels like my scalp is getting massaged thanks to the ingredients that include white tea extract, peppermint oil, antioxidants and botanical extracts.

Update: After the 30 days I definitely had more oomph to my hair. It made it look thicker and it felt that it also increased blood flow to the scalp. I would definitely buy it.
