How to Get Out of Debt and Avoid Fraud

Be careful with credit counseling agencies that don’t always deliver what they promise

More than one and a half million people file for bankruptcy every year. Many people fall behind on their bills because they’ve lost their jobs, suffered from a long-term illness, or because they were unable to manage their personal finances properly.

Fortunately, there are many resources out there that can help you put together a plan to pay off your debt, including credit counseling agencies.

Signs Your Finances Are in Trouble

You don’t have to be close to filing for bankruptcy to realize that you are in financial trouble. These are some signs that you might have too much debt:

* You are frequently late on your payments
* You are close to your credit limit on your credit cards
* You use your credit cards to make payments on other cards
* You find it difficult to save money
* You’ve been denied credit recently

How to Get out of Debt

To get out of debt and set your finances straight, carefully analyze your income and expenses. Make sure you:

* Make a budget and stay within its limits.
* Figure out your total debt and also what you owe to each creditor, your monthly payments, interest and payment due dates.
* Prioritize repayments, focusing first on things such as your mortgage, rent, and utilities.
* Make a repayment plan for each creditor and determine how long it will take you to pay off the debt. Make sure to review your credit card statements, as they will include information about how long it will take to pay off your balance, per new credit card laws that went into effect in 2010.
* Don’t incur any additional debt.

How to Choose a Credit Counseling Agency

Consider a credit counseling agency if your debt is too much to handle. These companies offer workshops on how to manage your money and advice on how to administer your debt. They can also help you create a budget and even negotiate your debt with creditors.

Many of these companies are nonprofit organizations, however be careful, as some charge excessive fees for their services and others might not even deliver what they promise. Consider these important suggestions before choosing a credit counseling agency:

* Pick a counseling agency that offers several services. This will help you avoid organizations that promote only certain services.
* Avoid credit counseling agencies that charge you for simply providing information, or agencies that demand a percentage of the amount that you are supposedly saving. Ideally, you should request the cost of their services in advance and in writing.
* Stay away from agencies that ask you to stop making payments on your debt or ask you not to contact creditors.

The Department of Justice has a list of credit counseling agencies that are approved to provide pre-bankruptcy counseling.

No.3 London Dry Gin Review

This gin is beautifully packaged and designed in every way. I especially love the key on the bottle. This No.3 London Dry Gin from Berry Brothers & Rudd, Britain’s oldest wine and spirit merchants, uses just 3 fruits and 3 spices (the ‘botanicals’ which flavour every gin), The No.3 also comes from Berry Brothers’ home; No.3 St. James’s Street.

This is now my favourite gin. Careful though, it’s 46% ABV. It’s crisp and fresh. I also made a Gin & Tonic with it which tasted perfect. It is pure class all the way. 46% is also the perfect strength for a Dry Martini.

To make a G & T

50ml of No.3 London Dry Gin, pour into high top glass over ice, add a slice of Lemon and stir, then top up with tonic water to taste.

Dr. David Clutton is the only person to have a PhD in gin flavour, the team deliberately set out to make No.3 taste ‘as gin should’ – without the use of an excessive amount of ingredients and distilled in traditional copper pot stills without any over-elaboration. So, with classic simplicity the goal, the experts placed a robust helping of juniper – the key ingredient in any gin – at the heart of No.3. This striking juniper quality was then cleverly complemented by just 5 other fruits and spices; namely, sweet Spanish orange peel, grapefruit peel, Angelica root, Moroccan coriander and cardamom seeds.

From Waitrose RRP of £33.65 for a 70cl bottle, but it’s worth it!

The Kraken Black Spiced Rum Review.

The name of this rum brings out legends of the sea. The Kraken was a sea beast of myth and legend, a connotation that suits this strong, rich and black rum. Even the bottle is a reminder of the beast, the two glass handles mimic the eyes of the Kraken.

This Spiced Caribbean Rum has a thick caramel taste, it’s a wonderfully spiced liquor which goes brilliantly with coke (Krakencoke), or in a cocktail like a Perfect Storm: The Kraken poured over ice, topped with ginger beer and accompanied with a squeezed slice of lime.

The Kraken is 40%. It is distilled in Trinidad & Tobago from sweet molasses. It is then mixed with 14 spices including cinnamon, ginger and clove. It takes effort and time to make, and you can tell. It’s delicious.

It is a good, strong rum. I have only drank rum once before but this has changed my mind. Next time I’m out I’m having spiced rum. Everything about The Kraken is great, from the bottle, to the ad campaign, to the wonderful taste. It taste’s great neat for those who can take it, but I’ll be having it in cocktails, a lot.

RRP £22.99 for a 70cl bottle available mostly everywhere and online at thedrinkshop.co.uk

Montezuma's Real Chocolate Club Review

Gourmet chocolate by post, every woman’s dream? I think so. Montezuma’s chocolate club is from an innovative British firm. These handmade chocolates are absolutely divine. They are one of the best things I have ever had come through my letterbox. Perfect for those January blues.

This month the chocolates were dessert themed. They came in three sections, and each section had a bar of chocolate and truffles on top. They were: Dark Chocolate Lemon Meringue Truffles and Milk chocolate with salted peanuts and butterscotch bar, Dark chocolate Eton Mess Truffles and milk chocolate treacle tart bar and milk chocolate apple crumble truffles & Dark chocolate with orange and hazelnuts bar. It’s hard to choose a favourite as they were all as delicious as they were original. The Eton Mess and Lemon Meringue were particularly amazing.

Chocolate by post must be the greatest invention ever.

It cost £19.99pcm for a whopping 600g of hand made gourmet chocolate, including postage. You can have sign up for as long or as little as you want, or give the chocolate as a gift. Though, really, do you like anyone that much?

Lady Gaga Tops Good Celebrities List.

Lady Gaga Tops DoSomething.org’s ‘Top 20 Celebs Gone Good’ List; Sophia Bush Named ‘Fan Favorite’, Bieber Shoots up the Rankings this Year; New Trend is Couples

DoSomething.org, one of the largest U.S. organizations that helps teens take action on causes they care about, it released its fourth annual ‘Top 20 Celebs Gone Good’ list.

Lady Gaga continues her reign as the star who uses her celebrity to do the most good. Known for her support of gay rights, AIDS, and poverty, she focused primarily this year on bullying, even taking her thoughts to the White House in December. She also announced the creation of her own charity, the Born this Way Foundation, which aims to empower youth and lead them to a brave new society where each individual is accepted and loved as the person they were born to be.

Making a meteoric rise to number two this year is Justin Bieber , up from number 10 last year. His fast rise is due to his prolific work with Pencils of Promise, an organization that builds schools in Laos and Guatemala. Justin is also a consistent supporter of Make-A-Wish, raised funds for charity with his fragrance and holiday album, and recently distributed $100,000 to Whitney Elementary School in Las Vegas.

“There are some interesting trends from this year’s list,” says Aria Finger, COO of DoSomething.org. “It’s dominated by young celebrities and we also see so many couples. Last year the list had its first power couple, Ashton and Demi who have now broken up, and this year there are a total of four couples. Doing good is definitely fun in groups.”

For the first time ever, DoSomething.org’s panel of social media and mobile experts incorporated Facebook voting to help them determine the impact of celebrities reaching an audience with their cause. The criteria stipulated giving money wasn’t enough to count as creating impact; instead, a celebrity needed to take an action others could emulate, like writing articles, building houses, or founding an organization. Facebook fans voted Sophia Bush as the first ‘Fan Favorite.’

The 2011 ‘Top 20 Celebs Gone Good’ list:

1. Lady Gaga
2. Justin Bieber
3. George Clooney
4. Will & Jada Pinkett Smith
5. Leonardo DiCaprio
6. Matt Damon
7. Ellen DeGeneres
8. Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie
9. Dwight Howard
10. Demi Lovato
11. Shakira
12. Ashton Kutcher & Demi Moore
13. will.i.am
14. Blake Shelton & Miranda Lambert
15. Nick Cannon
16. Lea Michele
17. Daniel Radcliffe
18. Miley Cyrus
19. Coldplay
20. Taylor Swift

“There are a handful of other celebrities who just missed the cut-off this year,” notes Finger. “We look forward to seeing what they will do in 2012.” Current speculations and predictions from DoSomething.org include:

* Will Jay-Z and Beyonce, Rihanna, and Justin Timberlake each use their massive popularity and talent for social change next year?
* How will Zoey Dechanel use her new star power for good?
* We suspect Bieber’s good heart will rub-off on Selena Gomez and catapult her to the list next year.
* With Tim Tebow being the most talked about athlete of 2011, we’re excited to see how he uses his celebrity for good in the coming year.

To determine the rankings, DoSomething.org used its research team and an expert panel, who focused on three elements: popularity, influence, and impact. The first two were calculated using each celebrity’s number of Twitter followers and Facebook likes, as well as their IMDB Pro Scores, Billboard Social 50 ranking, and number of ChaCha inquiries.

Krabbe: The Disease That Needs More Awareness

I had not heard of Krabbe disease until 2011, when a relative was diagnosed with it. Krabbe is also called Globoid cell leukodystrophy; Galactosylcerebrosidase deficiency; Galactosylceramidase deficiency. It is a rare genetic disorder of the nervous system and is a type of leukodystrophy. It is named after the Danish neurologist Knud Haraldsen Krabbe who discovered it.

Krabbe disease is caused by a defect in the GALC gene. People with this gene defect don’t make enough of a substance called galactocerebroside beta-galactosidase (galactosylceramidase).

This is needed by the body to make myelin, the material that surrounds and protects nerve fibers. Myelin breaks down without it, brain cells die, and nerves in the brain and other body areas do not work properly.

There are two forms of Krabbe disease.

  • Early-onset Krabbe disease appears in the first months of life.
  • Late-onset Krabbe disease begins in late childhood or early adolescence.

Krabbe disease is inherited, which means that it runs in families. To get this disease, each of your parents must pass you a copy of the faulty GALC gene.

This condition is very rare, Affecting 1 in 100,000 births.

Symptoms

  • Changing muscle tone from floppy to rigid.
  • Hearing loss that leads to deafness
  • Feeding difficulties
  • Irritability and sensitivity to loud sounds
  • Severe seizures
  • Unexplained fevers
  • Vision loss that leads to blindness
  • Vomiting

The condition is often misdiagnosed as cerebral palsy.

There is no specific treatment for Krabbe disease. It is possible to have a bone marrow transplant in the early stages of the disease, but this treatment has risks. The outcome of Krabbe is usually not good. On average, infants with Krabbe die before age 2. People who develop the disease at a later age have survived into adulthood with nervous system disease.

A blood test can be done to see if you carry the gene for Krabbe disease and prenatal tests can be done to screen a developing baby for this condition.

Dating Detox For 2012.

As we bid hello to 2012, we look forward with a sense of optimism and hope,. January is the month of choice to cleanse ourselves of any harmful toxins we carried over from the previous year. As we carefully select which diets and detox to choose, eHarmony.co.uk offer a revolutionary detox plan for 2012. Welcome the ‘dating detox’, a fool proof, four step detox plan for even the biggest skeptics to get you right back on track in your dating life.

Cleanse your outlook and get a fresh start for 2012 with four tips from Dr Gian Gonzaga, relationship expert for online match-maker eHarmony.co.uk,

Dr Gonzaga begins with a question: ‘If you were to conduct a self-diagnostic checkup on the condition of your dating life, which of the following would apply?’

a. Strong and robust, with optimal functioning.

b. Generally healthy, though periodically sluggish and listless.

c. Anaemic and frail.

d. Comatose.

“If you answered “C” or “D,” chances are you’ve been single for awhile now and you’re suffering from overexposure to potent dating toxins. There are remedies you can use for yourself when you feel depleted and discouraged in your search for lasting love.”

Here is a four-step therapy from eHarmony.co.uk, that guarantees to flush the dating fatigue from your system and put you back on track:

1. Purge.

Unsuccessful dating attempts often leave behind a debris field of unfulfilled desires, unresolved grievances, and unyielding regrets. These are toxic to your emotional wellbeing, not to mention your chances for future success in matters of the heart. A critical step in the process of dating detox is learning to let go! Forget the past, and choose to move on.

2. Consume carefully.

A regimen of dating detox must include monitoring your intake of words, thoughts, advice, and images related to romance. Stay away from “downer” friends who whine about how hard it is to find a decent man/woman. Tune out family members who complain about their lousy relationships. When you feel your mood beginning to sink toward self-pity, do something about it. Even small shifts in your “diet” can lead to dramatic positive changes.

3. Rebuild.

Detox is not just about getting rid of unhealthy habits and emotions—but replacing them with ones more likely to get what you want. In this phase, begin by identifying the kind of partner you aspire to be. Are there qualities on the list you don’t yet possess? Make a plan to get there. Next, describe the person you are looking for in detail. This will help you recognise those people who don’t quite measure up—and save you another round of detox down the road.

4. De-stress.

Relationship experts point out the negative impact of placing too much stress on the dating process. Lots of people put tremendous pressure on themselves and their dates, continually analyzing what was said or not said, what they did or did not do. Having a relaxed, low-pressure approach to life and love makes for happy individuals—and happy individuals make happy, healthy romantic couples.

Everyone needs a round of dating detox now and then and what better time than the breaking of a new year.

BELLE CROWNED BEST CELEBRITY BABY NAME OF 2011

BELLE CROWNED BEST CELEBRITY BABY NAME OF 2011

Belle, daughter of Bounty’s ‘Celebrity Mum of the Year 2010’ winner Holly Willoughby, has won her first crown at nine months old, as she is awarded the accolade of having the ‘best celebrity baby name of the year’.

The moniker topped the poll to find mum’s favourite celebrity baby name, beating off strong competition from other celeb tots, including Harper-Seven (Victoria Beckham), Madison (Mel B) and Delilah (Kimberley Stewart).

The name Belle, which means ‘beautiful’ in French, is also one of Disney’s best-loved characters from the story ‘Beauty and the Beast’ and mums love the name because it is ‘pretty, girly and elegant.’

Second favourite is Sophia, which was the 28th most popular baby name of 2010 and is the name given to the daughter of footballer Peter Crouch and model Abbey Clancy.  In third place is pop/rock singer Pink’s tot Willow Sage.

The Beckham’s Harper-Seven narrowly missed the top three, coming in fourth place.

For the boys, Flynn, son of ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ star Orlando Bloom and Miranda Kerr, came top of the poll.  Already a super-cute baby, he is sure to follow in his father’s footsteps and ‘bloom’ into a handsome young man. Mums commented that the name is both ‘cute for a baby, as well as romantic and dashing for when he grows up.’

Former-Baby Spice Emma Bunton’s son Tate, is the second most popular boys’ celebrity baby name and completing the top three is Harry – son of model Danielle Lloyd.

In total, over 101,000 votes were cast on the online poll, which was compiled by parenting club Bounty and sponsored by www.HomeAway.co.uk, the UK’s largest holiday rentals website.

Lisa Penney, spokesmum for bounty.com said: “We all love to know what celebrities call their babies (even if we don’t like to admit it!) and our records show that what celebrity parents call their children can help to increase the popularity of the name.

“The top ranking names like Belle, Sophia, Madison and Flynn are the names which our mums can more easily identify with. The less popular, more unusual names such as Kahekili (Evangeline Lily) or Bear Blu (Alicia Silverstone) may not seem out of place in the celebrity kindergarten next to the likes of Suri, Apple, Zuma Nesta and Princess Tiaamii, but these names are certainly not the norm in the average school playground.”

Other celebrity named babies that proved popular this year include Hero (Myleene Class) and Lyra (Sophie Dahl).

Towards the bottom of the top 20 and demonstrating mum’s least favourite celebrity boys and girls names of 2011 are Mariah Carey’s Moroccan and Jessica Alba’s daughter Haven.

  1. Belle
  2. Sophia
  3. Willow
  4. Harper-Seven
  5. Madison
  6. Delilah
  7. Flynn
  8. Hero
  9. Lyra
