Cardinal and Burns, the blokes behind E4 comedy Cardinal Burns, have a chat about, well, E4 comedy Cardinal Burns.
Cardinal Burns is a new comedy sketch show written and performed by Seb Cardinal and Dustin Demri-Burns. Catch it Tuesdays at 10:30pm on E4. It is brilliant. (Thank God they didn’t call it Cardinal Demri-Burns though).
I am finally making a feature film. Since I got my first camera when I was 14 I reckon I am slacking a bit. We have 109 Scenes, 14 Locations and 17 actors so far. It is a mammoth task which started today. We had a brilliant days filming and got quite a few scenes.
Prose & Cons came about when Richard Wright saw me tweet that I wanted to make a film with strong female characters. He handed me a 39 page script that he had written and told me to write the rest. I did. Richard was initially the director of Prose & Cons but we had some artistic differences and he has now left, proving that people can have artistic differences and remain friends afterwards. Richard is now a brilliant comedian making his way around the London circuit.
I am now directing the film with Steve McAleavy. Steve was originally the producer and DOP but his passion made it impossible for him to not direct with me. Steve is still DOP and producer.
Just before I wrote this I worked out the schedule for the film. Sorted out what scenes were filmed, what actors were needed and what props were needed. It is using all of the skills I have acquired during my decade long career.
I also cast the film. Needless to say it is a labour of love and a passion project. I have been turning down work and putting my time and effort into this film and so has Steve. We want to make the best film possible.
We previously did a night shoot in Hayes FM with the lovely Becky Talbot. We have a great cast, the best equipment and, finger’s crossed, it should all go well.

Misfits Actress Sentenced to Community Service After Racially Abusing Taxi driver.
Lauren Socha, the BAFTA-winning Misfits actress, who plays a young offender has been sentenced to community service in an life-imitating-art twist. Socha, 21, drunkenly racially assaulted an Asian taxi driver.
Miss Socha is second from the right.
Socha plays Kelly Bailey in the hit show. She admitted to hitting Sarkander Iqbal in the face and screaming racial abuse at him in October 2011. She received a four-month suspended jail sentence and has to do 80 hours unpaid work.
Mr Iqbal said that Socha called him a ‘Paki’ and yelled ‘You don’t know who I am’. Mr Iqbal managed to record part of the attack on his mobile phone. In the recording you can hear Socha saying she will get Mr Iqbal’s family ‘lifted’ out of the UK and then launched into a trade of abuse.
Socha has previously said that anyone who calls someone a ‘Chav’ is a racist.
Mr Iqbal said she called him “every name under the sun’ during the attack.
It was terrible. She called me a Paki, a dirty b******, told me to **** off back to my own country and asked what I was doing here because I was Asian.’
Socha was also ordered to pay Mr Iqbal compensation.
Sundance London Film Festival 2012 Highlights
This year Sundance came to London with resounding success. Frost went along and has picked out some highlights.
Extranjero by Daniel Lumb & Crinan Campbell. This won the first ever Sundance London short film award, and rightly so. Well worth a watch.
The Return (Kthimi)
An amazing short film set in Kosovo. Everyone thought he died during the war but a man returns from being a prisoner of war and his wife, who he hasn’t seen in four years along with their son, has to tell him that she kept her rapists baby. Powerful and haunting.
Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared.
Weird but kind of wonderful.
Tooty’s Wedding
This short film is hilarious. Especially when the lead actress tells her husband “Yesterday a man said my breasts were a 7, which is actually quite high”.
Under African Skies by Joel Berlinger
Highly acclaimed at the festival. Paul Simon’s historic Graceland album sold millions of copies and united cultures, yet divided world opinion on the boundaries of art, politics, and commerce. On the occasion of the twenty-fifth anniversary of Graceland’s release, Simon returns to South Africa for a reunion concert that unearths the turbulent birth of the album. Despite its huge success as a popular fusion of American and African musical styles, Graceland spawned intense political crossfire. Simon was accused of breaking the United Nations’ cultural boycott of South Africa, which was designed to end apartheid.
I really liked this film. Very well-made and interesting story.
The Queen of Versailles
The Queen of Versailles premiered in the U.S. Documentary Competition at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival and received the U.S. Directing Award for Documentary. Sundance Institute provided creative support for the film at the 2011 Creative Producing Summit.
A very good documentary. Worth watching.

It’s the biggest launch since Glee. 
With zingy one-liners and two talented actresses in the lead roles, E4’s brand new smash hit US comedy 2 Broke Girls launched on E4 drawing an average audience of 1.1m, more than doubling the 2012 slot average of 443k.
The programme attracted the biggest overnight audience so far this year on E4, after The Big Bang Theory and the largest audience for a new title on the channel since Glee in 2010.
Between 21.00 and 21.30, E4 drew the biggest 16-34 share across all channels and was the top digital channel for individuals in both the slot and peak time (17.30-00.00). The channel also drew its second highest daily and peak share YTD for individuals and 16-34s.
Big Bang Theory continues to be a hit and drew its 3rd and 4th highest overnight audiences of 2012.
Tate and Tennant’s Shakespeare pulls in the crowds -The Doctor duo are top celebrity Shakespearean stars.
To mark the launch of the World Shakespeare Festival this week a survey by viagogo has revealed which celebrities give the Bard’s plays the most pulling power.
The winning combination of Catherine Tate and David Tennant, who starred together in Much Ado About Nothing, topped the list keeping ye olde English flame alive and narrowly pipping Hollywood star Kevin Spacey to the top spot following his hugely popular role of Richard III.
When deciding who is best to be or not to be Hamlet, theatre producers should take heed; real-life Romeo Jude Law, who starred in 2009’s Hamlet came in third with audiences preferring him to Michael Sheen, who treads the boards in fifth place for the 2011 version of the same play.
Newcomer Eddie Redmayne comes in at fourth place; his rising star has seen him proving more popular than luvvie veterans Ralph Fiennes and Patrick Stewart.
Judy Dench’s pulling power is still going strong. The national treasure came in seventh place for her appearance in A Midsummer Night’s Dream just ahead of TV funny-man Lenny Henry who starred in A Comedy of Errors.
Ed Parkinson, viagogo spokesperson said: “While Shakespeare plays are consistently popular we always see a huge spike in demand when a household name is announced in a leading role. Both Shakespeare and celebrities have natural pulling power, and the two combined make a winning combination.”

EXTRANJERO WINS FIRST-EVER SUNDANCE LONDON SHORT FILM COMPETITION
Film by Daniel Lumb and Crinan Campbell from north London to screen at Sundance London
Extranjero, a five-minute film from Daniel Lumb and Crinan Campbell, was announced today as the winner of the Short Film Competition at the first-ever Sundance London film and music festival, 26-29 April at The O2. The film will screen as part of the official Short Film programme at the festival and is available for immediate viewing here.
Extranjero, shot over just two days, gives the viewer a unique and unusual take on immigration as it follows a refugee trying to run from his past as well as the confusion in his own mind. Lumb, 32, from north London, and Campbell, 31, also from north London, met as flat mates six years ago and submitted the short film after friends encouraged them to.
Launched in November 2011, the Short Film Competition, a collaborative effort with the Royal Borough of Greenwich and Ravensbourne, invited UK-based filmmakers to enter original pieces between three and five minutes in length around the theme ‘Story of Our Time.’ In addition to Extranjero, finalists for the competition were: Bonsai, by Ben Williams; Two Doors Down, by Scott Ward; The Story of Our Time, by Sam Gould; and This Film Was Shot on Digital, by Ian Waldron Mantgani.
Lumb said: “Extranjero is quite an experimental film. We wanted to comment on people you don’t really know about, and Extranjero was the result. Winning the competition is a dream for both us. As film geeks it’s amazing to be associated with Sundance.”
Trevor Groth, Director of Programming for the Sundance Film Festival, said: “The jury was struck by the high level of craft and ingenuity in the submissions. Filmmakers embraced the theme ‘Story of Our Time’ and created wonderfully diverse and entertaining films. Ultimately the jury selected Extranjero for its commanding cinematic storytelling and arresting visuals that offer an alternate perspective on an imperative global issue.”
Chris Roberts, Leader of Greenwich Council added: “We are delighted to support Sundance London, and this competition will help showcase our local filmmakers to the world. The Royal Borough of Greenwich has a wealth of locations that includes everything from industrial warehouses, the largest expanse of parkland in London, historic buildings and a wealth of riverfront locations. The rich diversity of locations makes Royal Greenwich an ideal backdrop to film and have attracted productions as diverse as Children of Men and Pirates of the Caribbean.”
Previously announced events and performances for Sundance London include: a rare intimate concert performance by Placebo; Tricky and Martina Topley-Bird performing Maxinquaye; a performance by Rufus and Martha Wainwright following the world premiere of Lian Lunson’s film about the music of their mother, folk singer Kate McGarrigle; and screenings of 14 feature-length and eight short films from the 2012 Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, U.S.A.
