A Launch at Breakfast by Kathleen Thompson: The Santiago Sisters – Victoria Fox

The Santiago Sisters – Victoria Fox
The Ivy Kensington Brasserie was the perfect venue for the launch of The Santiago Sisters – Victoria Fox’s latest novel, due for release on 28th July.

Victoria explained the plot and inspiration over a fantastic breakfast, and quite frankly what could be better than hearing about the background to a novel in the company of interesting people and great food.

A Launch at Breakfast by Kathleen Thompson.
It transpired that a few years ago, Victoria spent an exciting time in Argentina and Patagonia, herding cattle with gauchos, watching tango in street cafes and sleeping at least partly under the stars (their tent had a few poles missing) and so she chose Argentina as the background for her story.

What story? An exploration of ‘sister’ relationships through the two main characters – Calida and Teresita Santiago.

Victoria and Tory

As she talked to us, she brought the whole Argentinian and Patagonian experience to life in such a way that clearly the book is going to be unputdownable.

She and Cleo, editor from HQ, (a new imprint being launched by Harper Collins this month) discussed how they had worked together to produce the final product. Besides Alice and Tory from Midas PR, there were representatives from various magazines, including our own Frost magazine and also Claire from Fabulous Magazine.

Next week, Frost Magazine will be publishing a review of The Santiago Sisters published by Mira on 28th July. pb original £7.99.

Giles Deacon Launches Libertine Jewellery With QVC

Frost headed to the Ivy for the launch of Giles Deacon’s new jewellery collection for QVC, Libertine. We had a chat with the man himself and he told us that he could not choose his favourite piece as it ‘changed everyday’ and that his favourite that day was the ‘village people’. He also said that collaborating with QVC ‘took a while’ and was quite hard as they wanted everything to be perfect.  Kimberley and Proudlock from Made in Chelsea were also there. Take a look and tell us your favourite piece.

“A Libertine is a person who has so much love, self awareness and lust for life.  A free spirited individual that ignores constraints defined by the larger society and whose thinking goes beyond mainstream idea”.

Libertine, an edgy new jewellery collection from fashion designer, Giles Deacon, represents all of these characteristics through quirky design and bold use of colour.  Gold tone; embellished with Swarovski elements, these signature pieces reflect Giles’ playful style; offering women of all ages fun, statement accessories that inspire confidence.

Libertine is perfect for the woman who likes to have fun with her wardrobe and stand out from the crowd offering a variety of wearable bracelets, necklaces, rings and earrings.  Giles’ colourful enamelling and crystal embellishment will complete any daytime or evening look, with prices ranging from £14.00 to £70.00; the collection offers affordable glamour for women everywhere.

“The Giles Libertine jewellery collection is a mix of Edwardian eccentricity with punk attitude. In the “garden collection” which is beautiful golden thorns wrapping their way around enamel crystallised twisted bugs, or the “golden scorpion” collection with feather details – ‘Scorpy and the danglers’; also revisiting some of our favourite characters Eek mouse makes a return with a disco twist, as well as some figures developed from illustrations of fashion icons from the 30’s till now.

Celebrities attend the launch of Giles Deacon's jewellery collection for QVC

I am delighted to be launching the Libertine collection in collaboration with QVC, and to become part of their history of designer collaborations.  The new jewellery line has been designed with QVC’s ever growing customer base in mind”– Giles Deacon –

Leo Bancroft Party at The Ivy

On the 22nd of November I went to The Ivy with the lovely Nadia Gilani for the launch of Leo Bancroft’s accessories range for Tesco. The evening was a lot of fun and Leo has made a brilliant range of accessories. The celebrity hairdresser was joined by Made in Chelsea star Kimberley Garner (who is very friendly and gave me the biggest smile) , Eastenders actress Tanya Franks, the lovely model and presenter Jules Wheeler, cast from The Valleys, entrepreneur Tom Gearing from The Apprentice, and business man Richard Caring.

Check out Leo Bancroft’s haircare at Tesco.

What’s Your Social Highlight This Summer?

One of the social highlights of my summer so far was the May Fair Hotel’s annual Penthouse Party. It was hosted by Anthony Lee, General Manager of The May Fair who I had a lovely chat with. I popped along with Dominic Graham de Montrose, and then we headed to the Panasonic Olympics party afterwards. Magician Dynamo was working his magic there. He has to be seen to be believed.

Other social highlights: London Fashion Week, Lovebox, Impulse releasing their new fragrance at the W Hotel with Caggie Dunlop (who’s lovely), the Leo Bancroft launch at The Ivy and being Centre Court at Wimbledon.

2012 is an exciting year for those of us living in London with the Olympics on our doorsteps. We would love to here from people in London and outside about their summer.

What is your summer highlight so far? Let us know.

{Spotted} Lily Allen's Ivy dinner

Lily Allen smiled politely for the cameras after eating out at London’s Ivy restaurant last night. Funny place to go if you want to avoid the fame game, but what Lily wants, Lily gets, and dinner at The Ivy it is!
