Spectre Review

spectre-banner-3

James Bond, one of Britain’s most highly regarded film franchises returns for his 24th outing in SPECTRE, touring the world, with his out of control budget. Daniel Craig returns for the fourth time as 007 with his stone-sullen demeanor, this time with a rugged charm, wit and dry sense of humour, but that’s British comedy for you.

mendes and craig

Also returning to the helm is Bond’s heavyweight director, Sam Mendes, to finish off what he started and to wrap Daniel Craig’s Bond saga, in a neat bow-tie for the next time he needs it for his tux. This includes tying up all the loose ends and even making a tad bit of sense out of Quantum Of Solace, remember that film.

NE8cWXni9u1Lbd_1_b

SPECTRE, opens up in Mexico City, the day of the dead, on a truly spectacular sequence, one of the best Bond openings, that could have been saved for a finale, but it prepares you and excites you for the ride ahead. It has all the niches of a Bond sequence, except a cheesy one liner. But one of the best contributes to this opening sequence, is Hoyte Van Hoytema’s cinematography and his one shot opening shot that opens up Spectre, truly steals the scene. I bet you, thought I was going tell you about the vertigo-inducing helicopter fight sequence, but that’s just another highlight of Spectre’s opening

But I will tell you this, once Sam Smith’s Bond ballad plays with it’s dark glitz and glamour, this maybe your cue for the toilet, to prepare yourself for the 148 minutes ahead. As the iconic opening titles alongside ‘Writing On The Wall’ just seem lackluster after it’s opening sequence.

Bond1-480x279

Spectre continues the themes glittered throughout Craig’s saga as Ian Fleming’s James Bond, unearthing his origins and concluding the spectacular Skyfall. In which all the events that Bond has encountered from Royale to Skyfall, have led to the sinister and shadowy organisation known as SPECTRE, which any Bond fan will recognise the name, as well as uncovering the identity of the organisation mysterious leader, Franz Oberhauser.

Spectre-James-Bond

Franz Oberhauser, played by Christopher Waltz, who given limited his screen time, his cunning and brilliant. He fits the image and persona of your typical bond villain to perfection. But also let’s be reminded that this is Christopher Waltz, after all, anything with him in the cast, is made better by his performance.

Lea

Dr Madeline Swann, played by the stunning and underrated, Lea Seydoux performs the best to her acting capabilities, given to that, which her character is written. While Dr Swann, has her moments, but for myself she just felt like a rehash of Vesper Lynn’s character from Casino Royale.

spectre-mr-hinx

Hinx, played by the menacing Batista, an individual clearly a better actor than he is a wrestler, but for a fun fact, he actually re-enacted the torture scene from Casino Royale for his audition. But unfortunately, for Hinx, despite how much of a physical challenge he poses to Bond, he never gets that shining moment, aside from his vicious intro. As well as his encounter with Bond between train carriages, which brings memoir to From Russia With Love. Although underused, one thing I did love about Hinx, is he doesn’t say nothing, as well that he looks like Oddjob on steroids.

First_glimpse_of_Andrew_Scott_s_character_in_the_new_trailer_for_Spectre

The cunning C played by Andrew Scott is another character introduced in Spectre. A villain that not only threatens Bond but also M, Q and even Moneypenny back in London, with wanting to revolutionise security measures for not only Queen and country, but for the rest of the world… Starting with dismantling the 00 programme. This brings a new story element to Bond, especially how security is handled now and also recently such events as Snowden. Which the dynamics between M and C are entertaining.

M-Bond

M still delivers a tour de force performance, continuing where Judi Dench left off, as the head of M16, in which I’d gladly watch his character in his own spin-off. But personally I wanted more of M, same as for Moneypenny

download

My biggest pet peeve with this film was the physical under use of Naomi Harris’s Moneypenny. I wanted to see more of Harris’s Moneypenny kicking ass as she did in Skyfall. Which I loved Moneypenny being more physical, while in Spectre, she feels like she taking Moneypenny back to the old version of being an assistant and putting her character behind a desk.

Spectre-Ben-Whishaw-as-Q-and-Daniel-Craig-as-James-Bond

But on a plus note Ben Whishaw has finally found his inner Desmond Llewelyn as Q, which is played with wittingly in contrast to the old Bond films. In which he steals every scene that he is involved in and cracks the joke with 007 about his behaviour.

NEHqM3W8GbXNLK_1_b

Spectre spares no cost on its action sequences and it has some of the best in the franchise, especially when it plays with your nostalgic towards the franchise, which are made so much better by Hoyte’s cinematography, especially with car chase through Rome, and Bond bringing a plane to a car chase. While Mendes has set the expectations for the future of the Bond franchise and future Bond films, Spectre just doesn’t cut it above Skyfall even with its dual twist, that lacks the emotional punch to the gut as Skyfall did. The two-way twist is as predictable as a cheesy Bond one-liner from one of its villains.

sam-mendes-daniel-craig-james-bond_15b55ea4-2ec4-11e5-a8da-005056b4648e

Spectre feels like Mendez attempted to pull off Nolan by returning to the franchise he has molded and recreated the mythos behind Britain’s most beloved and misogynistic secret agent,  but this all feels like The Dark Knight Rises of Bond films, while it’s predecessor felt like Batman Begins… Anyone would concur that Craig and Mendes have done for Bond, what Nolan and Bale did for Batman. Although regarding the future of Bond, I wouldn’t mind seeing Christopher Nolan helm a Bond picture, especially when he has already expressed interest. But wherever the future of Bond lies, after Daniel Craig’s Bond saga, any Bond installment and follow-up will be met with high expectations after Skyfall.

Rory Nicole Ogden | Acting Interviews

Rory Nicole Ogden Acting InterviewsChild actress Rory Nicole Ogden has accomplished more since November 2012 than many artists twice her age. In winter 2012, she made the decision to fulfil her dream of becoming an actress and before she knew it, Rory was auditioning for (and getting) small roles in films. Then came a short film called “Just a Kid,” a delightful story about a young girl (Julie) who tries to cheer up her brother after his heart is broken. Rory landed the role, and that began a trend that continues to now.

What made you become an actress?

I fell in love with the idea of being in the movies and TV when I was young.  I thought the movie Transformers was so incredible I felt like I had to be in that life. I kept asking my Mother but she thought it was a phase.  I never stopped asking so my Mom talked to a friend that is an actress in LA.  The friend said to put me in classes and when I realized how much work it really was I would most likely change my mind.  The classes were two hours away and once a week for 12 weeks my Mom would drive me down there and sit in her car and wait for me.  I discovered that I loved it more than I thought, even with all the work it really takes.

Did you train and, if so, where?
Yes Plaza 7 Agency in King of Prussia PA with a great Improv Instructor Jimmy Carr
My classes taught me about Improv, Slating, Monologues and working with other actors.  I didn’t realize there was so much work that went into every aspect of acting but I loved it.  I still use the monologue I picked there because it really suits me.  One of the important things I learned there is if I screw something up like my Monologue to just go with it, if I don’t show people I messed up they wont know.  Its acting right lol!

roryactress

Career Highlight

I just finished up a project for Cartoon Networks Adult Swim that will be airing in Nov or Dec.  It was such a unique experience.  They did a 3D scan of my body so they could make an exact replica of my body.  Than they made silicone molds of my face to reproduce my face for some neat things they did in the project that I can’t say yet!  What other 13 year old gets to do such cool things? Cross your fingers I get to go back and do more.

Lowest Point

A student film that I did very early in my career.  It was a bad production done in a house with a dog that could be smelled 20 feet away and cats and more dust and cobwebs than a Halloween house.  We would get there 10 minutes before our call time and the team would show up 45 minutes later.  It’s why I very rarely do student films.

Hardest Thing About Being an Actress.

Finding time to practice and learn scripts while having a normal life as a teenager.  For adult actors its often their only job but as a student If I miss school for work I still have to make up everything I miss while doing my current work. My Mom’s condition to keep acting is to get good grades.  So I don’t have a choice there!  I also play Varsity Field Hockey as the Goalie so missing games hurts the team. I also love going out with friends and doing lots of social activities.  Twice I have been lucky enough to do roles with my best friend.  Most of the time you go on set and you don’t know anyone and that’s tough being a kid.

Do you make enough money from acting, if not, what else do you do?

I have saved some money up for College from acting but I also like to spend it :)  I plan on attending NYU or UCLA.  To study acting and film making.  My passion is gong around to Jacob Whitesides concerts and getting VIP tickets.  It’s a good thing my Mom likes Jacob!

Best and Worst audition.

Best

Just a Kid which was my first audition.  I had so much fun with the Director Michael Scotti Jr.  He was so fun to work with and Immediately felt the character was perfect for me.  A week later I was offered the role.  The Director later told my Mom the part was down to two people and when he was deciding he got a Thank you Note from my Mom and that sealed the deal!

Worst

I had two worst auditions.  Once was for someone I had worked for before who I loved but I went to the audition coming right off the plane from Florida with a case of sun poisoning.  I was having trouble talking and I didn’t know why I actually went to the hospital after and my tongue had swollen up with the sun poisoning.  Needless to say I didn’t get the part.

The other bad audition I had was the student film I did that was a nightmare.  I was put on the spot to tell an embarrassing story and I told a story of my mothers and I could see her turning red while I told it.  I don’t think she wanted it told.  I must have babbled for 15 minutes.  I never expected to get the part but I did.

Advice for other actors.

Make time for all your dreams don’t just make time for acting.  Play sports, go to dances and do all the things other teens do.  In fact I don’t tell my classmates I act but sometimes it comes out.  One time in Computer class we were learning how to use Google and the teacher had us Google the person next to us and my classmate freaked out and began telling everyone when he saw my website and IMDB.  Also if you really want to act start with training it’s the most important thing you can do.<

What is the most important thing for actors to do to improve their career?

I think you have to keep learning and doing different stuff.  Like I prefer comedy its a lot more fun but I have been doing other stuff so I can show that I can do anything.  I don’t want CD’s to look at me and pass on me because they only think I can do comedy.

Role Models

Selena Gomez- I have a lot of respect for her.  I always thought she was a good actress.  I grew up watching her on Wizards of Waverly Place.  It became my favorite show.  Selena is also a great singer another passion of mine.  Recently she disclosed she has Lupus and it makes me realise what a strong woman she is to be able to do all of the things she does even when she is sick.

Funniest Thing that happened on Set

While filming my first film just a kid I had to ride my bike down the street.  The DP, Director and Producer were in a van following me down the street filming me.  A person saw this and called the police thinking I was going to be abducted.  The police came rushing to the scene.  After questioning me and them they realised it was only a film.

In true Ibiza style the founders kept it casual with linen shirts and jeans whilst the leading ladies dazzled, Amal Clooney in a magnificent gold metallic Vionnet dress and shoes by Dior, and Cindy Crawford in a Botegga Venetta black dress paired with Alaïa heels.

As the sun began to dip and the night began to cool, guests feasted on sumptuous canapés created by the hotel’s Head Chef as they watched the sun set over the mountains from the rooftop while listening to Balearic beats. Fire-breathers, acrobats and dancers wowed the founders and other guests, circling around the tables and providing mesmerizing entertainment for the night providing the perfect intro to the nights later festivities. Old friends Rande Gerber and James Blunt – a local Ibiza resident, caught up over a few tequilas whilst Cindy was ensconced in a fashion royalty conversation with Sam Knight and Mario Testino. Amal caught up with friend, another Ibiza resident, Charlotte Tilbury as they reunited after Charlotte did the make-up for Amal on her wedding day.  Surround by their Ibiza House of Friends, at 10pm the party drew to a close and the group moved down to the VIP table to watch superstar DJ AVICII play his resident Sunday night set. Surrounded by Casmigos Tequila, the owners decided to open up their ‘House of Friends’ by sending all other VIP tables a bottle of the award winning Casamigos Tequila to enjoy the show.

Are You Ready for Jurassic World?

Jurassic-World

Jurassic World is set to take the planet by storm this summer, as the highly anticipated third sequel to the beloved cult classic was released on June 12, 2015.

Originally famous for its then- revolutionary dinosaur DNA plot (gleaned from the Michael Crichton book of the same name) and its state of the art visual effects, the first three Jurassic Park films captured the imagination of a generation of movie goers. It has since become a culture juggernaut, inspiring breakfast cereals, amusement park thrill rides, countless online memes and compelling many a little one to dream of a career in paleontology.

Those adoring fans who were small children when the original two films were released are now in their 20s and 30s, with many now having their own offspring that they cannot wait to introduce to these realistic dinosaur giants. Audiences and film critics alike are excited for the next chapter in the Jurassic World saga, with stars such as Bryce Dallas Howard, Vincent D’Onofrio and Guardians of the Galaxy star Chris Pratt at the helm of this installment of the mega blockbuster.

Featuring a plot that sees the Isla Nublar island amusement park struggling to attract the visitors it so easily enticed to Jurassic Park 22 years earlier, the Indominus Rex is a new hybrid dinosaur introduced to the park – and whose presence quickly goes wrong.

As an ominous voice over in the recent trailer narrates, “She’s a highly intelligent animal. She’ll kill anything that moves.” This foreboding narration is enough to make any audience member shudder with anticipation, and gives a clear clue as to what is about to happen in this film – this dinosaur is hunting for sport, not just for the food.

The director, Colin Trevorrow, had this to say about the somewhat controversial (at least in the blogosphere) decision to use the idea of a genetically modified dinosaur: “There is no shortage of awesome dinosaurs. We could have populated the entire story with new species that haven’t been in any of these movies. But this new creation is what gave me a reason to tell another Jurassic Park story.”

And another Jurassic Park story it shall be, with eager viewers lining up with glee in order to have a peek at the latest in what is one of the world’s most enduring and beloved movie franchises. Many questions are lingering in the minds of the super fans: does Chris Pratt’s character, the so-called “Raptor handler,” have a bond with the seemingly untamable velociraptors, vicious dinosaurs who appear to cooperate with him in an early trailer? Does the Indominus Rex have a backstory, or appear covered in feathers (as many 21st-century scientists now assert that dinosaurs would have been)? And how will potential sequel subject matter be introduced in this film?

Audiences all over the world are excited to see how this new Jurassic World plot plays out  – not to mention excited to see the latest in special effects and digital visual technologies come across on the big screen. For more on the film and to find viewings near you, visit the Cineworld website.
