Dixie Chicks’s Wrecking Ball Cover Is Amazing

We think the Dixie Chick’s are amazing, and their country take on Miley Cyrus’s Wrecking Ball is stellar. Cyrus has been doing her own share of cover versions on tour, including one of Dolly Parton’s hits, Jolene. Parton just happens to be Cyrus’s godmother. You can also watch that video below.

The Kills In New Online Film Exploring Double Acts In Art

In Unlock Art: Great Double Acts, The Kills investigate the importance of collaboration to the artistic process, and how artists have always collaborated in some form or other throughout history including Rubens, Jeff Koons, Gilbert & George and Jake and Dinos Chapman. The film challenges the popular myth: that art is made by solitary, angst-ridden artists, and reveals just how varied and abundant artistic creation can be when collaboration is involved.

Fab Four To Appear In Croydon: Rare Beatles Memorabilia Included In Auction

beatlesmemorabliaThe Beatles have been fascinating us for over five decades, but it was in 1964, exactly 50 years ago, that they took the world by storm. They appeared on US TV and performed in front of a 73 million audience. Beatles merchandise started to become big business.

Catherine Southon is pleased to announce that she will have not just one, but three rare Beatles memorabilia included in her next sale at The Chateau in the Shirley Hills, near Croydon, on Wednesday, 26th March 2014 at 11.30 am.

By far the most sought after is the 1964 NEMS record player, which is one of the earliest Beatles merchandise – only 5,000 were ever made and they rarely come up for sale. This one is not in mint condition, but will still make a fan’s heart beat faster. The iconic record player has got a print of the Fab Four playing their instruments and facsimile autographs. It is estimated to fetch between £1,000-2,000.

Also from around 1964, is the boxed set of car mascot Bobb’n Head Beatles dolls, which is expected to sell for £300-400. The set is in its original, slightly damaged box and each Beatle plays his instrument. The dolls are about 8” tall and are very popular with collectors.

For fashion conscious ladies, who want to fully embrace Beatlemania, the third Beatles’ lot will be of particular interest. A 1964 Dutch Polka Dot mini dress in beige and white with the faces of John, Paul, George & Ringo printed in black vertically next to a guitar with their facsimile signatures. It’s in excellent condition and a size 10/12 and comes with an estimate of £150-250.

Catherine Southon, well-known through various BBC Antiques programmes, says: “I was really excited to be shown the Beatles memorabilia at a recent valuation day. Although they did not belong to anyone famous, the fact that they have survived for this long in such good condition is quite remarkable. The Beatles are still seen as the greatest and most influential rock band and I know that their fans are always keen to add rare merchandise to their collections.”

Other lots with famous signatures included in the auction is a handbag signed by Neil Armstrong in the mid 1980s. He signed the beaded bag for its owner at a charity event shortly before he stopped giving autographs (estimate £1,000-2,000).

A catalogue will be available from the end of February and the sale can be viewed on 25th & 26th March at The Chateau, Coombe Lane, Shirley, Surrey CR0 5RE.

Bio:
Punk spirit, Rock culture, Reggae sound.

Founded in 2002, DRUNKSOULS are a French reggae band who have garnered worldwide acclaim and word-of-mouth, thanks largely to the international success of their “Human Race” song and music video, which has garnered over 2 million views to date. Likened to an original blend of Manu Chao, Gorillaz, Michael Jackson, RHCP and Damian Marley, their music is a patchwork of influences intended to make you dance as well as think. The Daily Consciousness says they’re “creating a unique sound with little to no borders.” Their songs, sometimes playful and sometimes dark, carry a message of reconciliation and tolerance, in which humor and gravity are intelligently cohabiting. Rock Is Rock says of the band “Dead Prez called themselves ‘Revolutionary but Gangster’. If that’s the case then DRUNKSOULS are ‘Revolutionary but Funny’.”

DRUNKSOULS have received a high amount of word-of-mouth from their fanbase, generating over 100,000 downloads of their debut album, and over 2 000 000  YouTube views of their viral music video “Human Race”, which has also been seen by millions in North America on California Music Channel, MusicMix USA, Alternative Currents and many others. The video’s success was due partially to it’s breathtaking footage, taken from the multi-award winning documentary “I Believe I Can Fly”. The film was directed by Sébastien Montaz-Rosset and based on the Skyliners, a team of French adventurers who specialize in highline tightrope walking, basejumping, and mountaineering. It won the Jury’s award at the Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival. HIP Video Promo who promoted Johnny Cash’s “Hurt” music video and have worked with Bon Iver, Of
Montreal and Death Cab for Cutie describe the video as “an exhilarating ride.”

DRUNKSOULS have played in legendary venues such as the mythical stage of Olympia-Bruno Coquatrix and the Grand Auditorium du Palais des Festivals de Cannes, one of the events supporting the African Reggae Star Tiken Jah Fakoli.

The critical acclaim and rapidly growing North American fanbase have encouraged DRUNKSOULS to come to the U.S for an ambitious tour, they are currently looking for partners to do so. The band’s current CD “Revolution” is a 16 track album offering of rock, reggae, electro, funk and pop. Building on the success of their debut, the band continues on the path of poppy hooks and political/emotional lyrics with tracks like “Human Race”, “The Fall” and “Revolution”. “Revolution” has earned them recommendations from tastemakers worldwide.

To celebrate their growing success, DRUNKSOULS are now releasing “Just Before Chaos” a compilation CD featuring their best work, intended to introduce more of the world to the DRUNKSOULS sound.

Stephanie Manns Come Closer Album Review

Stephanie MannsMy first thought on Stephanie Manns album is how cool the actual CD is; it is designed like a vinyl record. Pretty cool. Next up is how upbeat and happy the album is. Starting with the optimistic and happy ‘Follow You’, singer/songwriter Stephanie Manns has made a truly impressive debut album. She has a beautiful voice and a talent for songwriting. She writes wonderfully heartfelt lyrics.

Country, Americana and folk artist inspired; the use of guitar and ukulele really adds to the (mostly) upbeat tracks. The album is 10 tracks long and there is not even one dud song. An accomplished debut. Impressive.

“Without a doubt, Stephanie Manns is a singersongwriter with the raw talent, and sure promise of future success.” Maverick Magazine

Anthemic Americana… Catchy guitar and pristine vocals.”Diva Magazine

Stunning Debut Album from Glasgow Based Singer-Songwriter Stephanie Manns

Multi-talented singer-songwriter Stephanie Manns has released her debut album Come Closer – a positively beautiful collection of original songs from the UK’s most exciting new country, Americana and folk artist.

From the heartfelt and optimistic tones of opening track “Follow You” to the genuinely moving missive “The Way You Want Me To” and the melancholic yet hopeful “All Over”, Come Closer is an accomplished album of exquisitely performed songs, infused with inclusive and attractive melodies, which also deeply captivates the listener through Manns’ heartwarmingly sincere lyrics.

Refining her skills on the Scottish acoustic music scene, Stephanie has supported Blues Legend Joan Armatrading, Ultravox’s Midge Ure, alt-country troubadours Ahab and Brit award winner Emeli Sandé. It was during this time that Stephanie was discovered by national arts organisation Creative Scotland, who strongly supported her cause, helping Stephanie to fund the album as an independent artist.

Manns’ songwriting has been heavily influenced by Tift Merritt, Madison Violet and Patti Griffin, which is apparent throughout the album and serves to enhance the body of work as a whole. Come Closer illuminates Manns as a brilliantly gifted artist, who writes charmingly enjoyable songs that have the ability to move a diverse array of music lovers.
