KATE MIDDLETON’S SHOLA DRESS SET TO SPARK BIDDING WAR AT STAR-STUDDED FASHION FUNDRAISER

‘Trust in Fashion’ event offers fashionistas first chance to get their hands on the ‘high street’ dress that sparked a fashion frenzy

Within hours of the Duchess of Cambridge stepping out in the chic Shola taupe creation to meet the Obamas at Buckingham Palace the dress flew off the rails at Reiss stores across the UK with fashion fans crashing the online store as they clamoured to get hold of the latest ‘must have’ item.

The Reiss website was seemingly down for a few hours as shoppers surged to purchase the stylish number which retails at £175 and remains ‘Out of Stock’ due to extraordinary customer demand.

The clothing retailer has confirmed it will be back in stock, but is likely to take five to six weeks before it arrives…a lifetime in the world of fashion! Even then, the dress will be sold on a first come first served basis. However, those desperate to get their hands on one sooner can stake their claim at a fashion fundraiser in a few weeks.

Reiss, who has recently enjoyed a surge in sales thanks to the Princess’ penchant for the high-street brand, has donated two of Kate’s signature dresses to an exclusive charity auction, raising money for the much-loved children’s charity Rainbow Trust whose carers help families of children battling a life threatening or terminal illness.

Both the Shola dress and the white ‘Nannette’ dress – as worn in her official engagement photos – will be auctioned as a joint lot at a VIP fashion show, Trust in Fashion, to be co-hosted by fashion icon Sadie Frost on Wednesday 29th June at London’s stunning One Mayfair.

Celebrities, top models and the cream of the fashion industry are set to turn out in force for the event, which has been created by leading names from the world of fashion to celebrate Rainbow Trust’s 25th Anniversary.
The two day extravaganza in association with Marie Claire & Storm includes a VIP evening on June 29th – featuring an exclusive my-wardrobe.com catwalk show and auction – and followed by a sample sale on June 30th crammed full of top brands at amazing prices and attended by Storm’s top model scouts searching for the next new face.
Speaking about the event, mother-of-four Sadie Frost said: “I am incredibly excited to be involved with this event and raising money for such a worthwhile cause.

“It has to be every parent’s worst nightmare to find out their child is seriously ill and it is something most of us can’t even begin to imagine, which must make fundraising for such causes really difficult, as many people just want to push it away.

“Given the resource Rainbow could help so many more and I am pleased to be part of an event aimed at raising funds for this charity which hopes one day all families in need will have access to a Rainbow carer.”
The highlight of the VIP launch event will be a my-wardrobe.com catwalk show produced by Lesley Goring, with looks styled by Marie Claire Fashion Editors Holly Welch and Lucia Debrieux. Featuring models from the world famous Storm, the exclusive evening will be co-hosted by Sadie Frost and Marie Claire Editor in Chief, and Rainbow Trust Patron, Trish Halpin.
The catwalk show will be followed by an exclusive auction of fashion pieces from some of the world’s leading fashion houses, including a ‘Kate Moss for Longchamp’ handbag signed by Kate Moss herself, a Modalu ‘Pippa’ bag, named in honour Kate’s sister who always carries one, together with couture dresses, bags, shoes and jewellery from the likes of Manolo Blahnik, Christian Louboutin, Alberta Ferretti, Temperley London, Jenny Packham, Salvatore Ferragamo, Stella McCartney, Katherine Elizabeth Millinery, Marni, Mulberry, Mary Katrantzou, Stefanel and Erdem.

The two day event will raise vital funds for the charity which provides a lifeline to families facing the unimaginable ordeal of caring for a child with a life threatening or terminal illness. Rainbow Trust’s family support workers join families in their own homes to provide consistent, practical and emotional support during, what many Rainbow families describe as, their darkest hours. Rainbow carers are contactable 24 hours a day for families in crisis from diagnosis, through treatment and even after bereavement.

Brigitte Bardot Voted Most Stylish Woman Ever

French actress Brigitte Bardot has been voted the most stylish woman of all time in a new UK-wide poll.

The 1960’s film star outscored a bevy of beauties, including a number of dazzling British female style icons, to land the crown as the world’s most stylish woman.

She polled almost three out of every 10 votes cast (29.5%) in the nationwide poll of 3,000 Brits across the UK by iconic orange soft drink Orangina.

Legendary English rose and Hollywood icon, Elizabeth Taylor, who sadly died this year, came a very close second, with just a few percentage points between her and Bardot.

Bardot, the former fashion model, actress and singer, is now aged 76 and is a world-renowned animal rights activist. But in her 1960’s heyday she was lauded across the world as the epitome of glamorous French style, with her dress sense and iconic hairstyle copied in shops, fashion houses and hair salons in across the globe.

The poll results also illustrate that the English can’t help but admire the French for their cutting-edge style.

A massive 62% of those polled said that France was quite rightly renowned as the home of the most stylish women throughout history.

Famous French women such as fashion queen Coco Chanel, actresses such as Juliette Binoche, Catherine Deneuve and Emmanuelle Béart, and former model now president’s wife Carla Bruni, have helped establish French femmes as the leading lights in the global style stakes, according to those polled in the national study.

Paris also won the vote for the world’s most stylish city too, beating Milan into second place, New York into third and London into fourth.

Orangina spokesman, Steven Simpson, said: “The British and the French may have had their differences historically, but it is clear the French sense of style hasn’t been lost on the British.

“Brigitte Bardot is the epitome of classic French styling and despite being out of the limelight for all these years, she is still held up as a style icon.

“She was the pin-up girl for a golden age and has never been forgotten in France and, it seems, in Britain. The fact that she still ranks higher in style terms than some of Britain’s won modern style queens says it all.”

London Fashion Week 2011.

This February I went to my first hard core fashion week, okay I went to a few things last year, but this year I went to so many things I was so exhausted I didn’t know if I could get up the next day! I went to Caroline Charles’s show – beautiful cloths but the models were too young and the juxtaposition was jarring- Pam Hogg; Disorganised, How to walk in high heels at the Mayfair hotel (Amazing, my favourite) I drank too much cola, ended up in a making off and found out how many calories are in a big mac and french fries (820!) I had fun and there is a video below. Hope you like it. It has Paloma Faith, Boy George, Matt Smith, Karen Gillan, Jaime Winston, Jodie Harsh, Daisy Lowe and Charlotte Dellal in it.

THE Rodnik Band

London Fashion Week was in full force in February – a flurry of indelible catwalk designs and world wide fashion influence were in abundance. One show the Frost girls and I attended, that made a sustained mark on the mind – was the Rodnik Band Show. A collection of post moder pop art frenzy – a clever and refreshing illustration of art and fashion, with the essential ingredients to create a niche flavour for an otherwise more conformed ideology of fashion.

The face behind the charactered pieces is Scottish born Phillip Colbert – who’s uncanny approach to fashion, bares a strong reflection to his own persona. “I make clothing with a strong sense of fun”, Says Colbert “Conception and shape is important to me.”

Humouring the fine line between Art and Fashion, Colbert takes an expression, an art form – accordingly forming his interpretation visually – in fashion mode. Opting to relate to art as his muse, Colbert derives the idea and fascination of combining  bright, bold art with the enthusiasm of original fashion.

“I like the idea that my clothing is taken off the wall and worn, that each style expresses and artistic idea that is accessible and makes a thoughtful statement.”



Colbert‘s dynamic vision was evident at his A/W 2011 Show – encompassing a strong sense of conversation and expressive narrative within his collections. With a distinct belief in the notion of fashion fantasy and escapism, Colbert effortlessly executes a light hearted humour to his work.

The highlight of Colbert‘s shows, is the music he accompanies in presentation of each piece – in perfect harmony with the expressive path and nature to each one of his collections.

A joy to see, Colbert single handedly omits a strong sense of creativity in hand with fashion. “I am inspired to reinvent the way people look at fashion and clothes – if you change the way you look at something, the thing you look at changes!”

Paul Costelloe – LFW – The Review

The newly rescued Paul Costelloe opened London Fashion Week with a collection that mixed fun and sophistication for his Autumn/Winter 2011 range.

Bright candy coloured hues of pink, green, orange and yellow sauntered down the catwalk alongside checked tweeds, metallic jaquards, and pchycadelic prints – all keeping with this season’s top gun fashion trends of the sixties and seventies.
The sixties silouettes and details that prevails as being one of the hot trends of this year, played a significant part in Costelloe’s collection.  On women, trapeze coats, boxy jackets and tweed bomber jackets were teamed with skater skirts and accesorized with bright opaque tights and nude platform courts.
Sixties baby doll dresses with peterpan collars and mock button plackets came in bright and checked tweeds, bright watercolour prints and metallic brocade. In the fashion hype for deep stitch detail and colour blocking, Costelloe procured his collection with a flow of bold, statement making pieces.
Detailing came in the form of pleats; most notably at the waist and neckline. With the instilled brightness of the collection, some may have found this a less noticable factor – but us at Frost, found it simply divine.
The Female and Male Fashion show, showed the female models dressed in matching red bobbed wigs in perfect accompaniment with a mix of soft lilac and traffic light Red shades of  lipstick – intrinsic to the quality of Costelloe’s shows.
Menswear styles were slightly more muted and resembed lounge wear, aside from the brightly hued check jacket, the subtler designs included velvet jackets and belts – in keeping with the signature sophistication of the Costelloe Man.

The brand was recently rescued from administration by Cesar Araujo, the owner and chief executive of Portuguese supply group Calvelex, who has set up a new UK based company named Couture Brands.

The Frost Girls with Bethanie Lunn – How to Walk in High Heels!

Friday February 18th 2011 – the first day of Fashion week. A flurry of high fashionistas making their way to the central point of all things chic – the quintessential week commencing all factor fabulous a La Mode.

 

The ladies of Frost Magazine were fortunate enough to be invited to a presentation hosted by none other than Beauty and Fashion pioneer Bethanie Lunn, on her talk ‘How to Walk in High Heels.’ Held at the exquisite May Fair Hotel Suites, we were greeted courteously by an array of cup cakes and bellinis – plus endless champagne for a gathering of high fashion women.

Bethanie presented her deep narration on high heel technique in a friendly, professional manner – highlighting the points us ladies all wanted to know. How to maintain posture, the do’s and don’ts of street chic walking and the imminent importance of looking after our precious feet. Lunn’s beautiful outfit was complemented by a delicious pair of daring pink shoes – in true illustration of her love for the femme fatale look – simply divine!
Sipping on our delectably fine glasses of champagne, we sat ourselves down in what can only be described as a ‘dream’ suite – presented with a narrative of Lunn’s acute vision and knowledge of good footwear, which in turn focussed on more paired up physical activities.
Lunn is simply a lady of 21st Century modernism, encompassing all the essential elements of style. Her profound knowledge and individual approach to the Beauty and Fashion industry is a true inspiration for a catalogue of fashion daring women. Establishing herself as a Fashion Editor and Stylist by the mere age of 22 is an accomplishment to marvel at. Her carefree manner, together with a strong vision for all facets of fashion, makes her presence all the more interesting and educational.
Through the course of the presentation, Lunn taught us the some tricks of the feline posture trade – breathing techniques, how to prevent slipping on untoward surfaces (which involves scratching the surface of the sole) and the ‘heel to toe’ step – enabling less distress to the front part of our feet. It wasn’t long before all us high heel wearing ladies took to the Bethanie Lunn Catwalk, to show what we had learned.
For someone who has walked in high heels since I was 16 (the height disadvantage made me do it!), Lunn’s talk really enlightened me and my fellow Frost girls on how important it is to look after our feet. In the hustle of everyday city life, we often choose to brave the pain of our delicate toes, without thinking of the consequence.
As fashion wary as we are, it’s imperative to maintain a friendly balance. Lunn masters and teaches the techniques to combining the necessary care along with an even level of manageability. By the end of her session, the once wobbly-heeled Frost girls were ready to purchase the highest pair of heels Louboutin had to offer!

Edun presents the FW11 Women’s Collection “Storytellers and Liars,” the second collection for Edun under the creative direction of Sharon Wauchob. The theme “Storytellers and Liars” explores storytelling as it changes over time in various cultures. When a story is passed down through generations it becomes a reflection of the teller and develops a new meaning that can be seen as real or fantasy.

Who is the storyteller and who is the liar?, the clothes ask light-heartedly. When does a story become a lie? The pieces translate this notion through prints and the juxtaposition of fabrics with carefully selected iconic references repurposed to create a feeling that is completely fresh and new.

The palette includes pops of saturated blues and golds alongside neutral tones of camel, saddle, and licorice transformed into authentic, effortless prints.

Fluid and rigid fabrics are combined together, from layered, airy silks to textured boiled wools and chunky knits. Silhouettes, such as long, easy skirts that hit just below the knee and cropped knits and jackets are staples of the collection. Standout pieces include cascading dresses printed in saturated colors and reconstructed Fair Isle patterns in rich earth tones.

The collection also carries Edun’s personalized, signature handcrafted detailing, specifically knotting and embroidery. Iconic Macintoshes, parkas, and bomber jackets top off the collection paired with easy frill skirts and shirtdresses that are reworked with mixed fabrics and prints in silk and organic poplin cotton.
