July – All Year Round | Music News

julyresurrectionJuly made an album in 1968 that has some of the greatest psychedelic rock music ever put to wax in its grooves , The band were initially called the Dreamers then The Tomcats and in 1968 after securing a label contract with Major Minor Records with new manager Spencer Davis they became known as July.

The album at the time of its release did not sell that well but has since become one of the most collectable records of not only its time but of all time and it’s fair to say that its rightful place as one of the very few albums that will transcend time and space is now secured, this leads me nicely into in fact why I’m doing this review! It’s the brand new album by that very same band.

JULY – RESURRECTION

Tom Newman, Pete Cook, Chris Jackson & Alan James reformed July around 2009 and this new album is just like a continuation from that marvellous record of 1968, if you are a true fan of music that is made by musicians who truly care about the art form of sounds which can conjure up feelings and indeed thoughts to take you to those very special places we all know exist but in real terms very few embrace then this album and this band are your very own first class ticket to ride!!

July – Resurrection is like listening to all your favourite bands at once but still retaining their own very special distinctive, unique, quirky, idiosyncratic, isolated, does not sound like anything else charm. It would be easy to say The Beatles , Xtc , Blossom Toes, or even Jethro Tull but that could be say my comparisons on that level as easily as someone else might say The Koobas ,SRC , or even Captain Beefheart, but then again ALL that stuff is in there somewhere . Check out `can I go back again` for instance. These are the sounds of JULY, A great album by a great band of musicians. Do yourself a favour now.

Album available now at http://www.griffiths-clothing.com

Amazing European Jewellery Brands You Need To Know

If you’ve looked through your accessories collection recently and thought “I need some new jewellery” then you’re most definitely not alone. But where to look for inspiration? Well, how about abroad, to some of the most interesting jewellery designers coming out of Europe. Though it’s difficult to find a lot of these brands in the UK, you can find several of them on sites like Asos or in the House of Rokoko jewellery range. Failing that you can go straight to the brand’s website.

Maria Francesca Pepe

Loved by Rihanna, Lady Gaga and Nicole Scherzinger, the Italian jewellery brand Maria Francesca Pepe (MFP) is the go-to for edgy, urban accessories. Designs are inspired by British avant garde and handcrafted by Italian artisans, with the fall/winter 2014/2015 celebrating Life Love and Soul. Look out for the Forever cuffs and the Love rings whose fluorescent tones, enamel scribbles and sharp spikes will make a statement on any outfit.

Con Luz Propia

The Cadiz-based designers Con Luz Propia (With Your Own Light) focus on making vivid, striking jewellery from natural materials and vintage items, whether that’s freshwater pearls, stones or metal. The designers are comprised of young artists and travellers who draw inspiration from their stays in various countries across the globe. Their Rainbow Pearl necklace is typical, combining the finest handpainted pearls with gold silk for elegance.

Hendrikka Waage

Hendrika Waage was Iceland’s first international jewellery designer (she also happens to be a children’s book author and a campaigner for children!) and her pieces have featured in Vogue, Elle, Glamour and Hello. Inspired by spirituality as much as natural materials, her collections include necklaces made from wood and lava beads as well as bracelets made from crystals with images of Buddha and the Hand of Fatima. You can find her range on her site or at Icelandic fashion retailer Lastashop.

Ole Lynggaard
Another of Scandinavia’s leading designers, Ole Lynggaard is a goldsmith and jeweller who founded the eponymous business and now makes pieces by appointment of the royal court. Needless to say, the jewellery is among the finest in the world, expertly crafted from premium materials. From the Lotus rings with their flower-like precious stones to the Sweet Drops bracelets, which are customisable with different charms, it’s pure luxury.

London Wedding Caterer The Pickled Fork Interview | Weddings

Few things are more important to get right during your wedding than the catering. The Wedding Breakfast is so-called as it is the first meal of your married life and making sure it is a good one is paramount.

My wedding caterer was The Pickled Fork. There were brilliant and many of the guests said it was the best wedding food they had ever tasted. I have an interview with the owner, Alex Motture, below.

wedding, wedding food, wedding breakfast, caterer, London, weddings, wedding, the pickled fork
How did you get into wedding catering?
I first got into wedding catering whilst working at Mustard Catering 4 years ago. Although I had catered for weddings in the past it was not on the same scale.
Tell us about the Pickled Fork
Here at The Pickled Fork we are all about using the best of  British seasonal produce whether it be from the land, sea or sky. We host weekly pop up restaurants around London and are also involved with local brewery’s and distilleries.
What is the most important thing to get right?
For me the most important thing to get right is your timing. If you don’t get this right things can spiral out of control very quickly

What should couples look for in a wedding caterer?
Couples looking for a wedding caterer should be keeping an eye out for someone with flair, patience, attention to detail, a passion for food and a strong back round in hospitality.
What kind of questions should a couple ask their caterer?
A couple questions that I think should be asked would be..How much and are you flexible on price!?
Talk us through a day catering for a wedding.
Slightly tricky question as every wedding is different therefore no two days in the kitchen will be the same. Although generally the day will generally run the same depending on what style of menu the couple have chosen. It will usually involve an early start and a late finish with lots of prep in between.
What kind of food do you recommend for weddings?
It all depends on what the couple want. Probably the most straight forward and least problematic from my point of view would be a hot and cold buffet. Another good option is to have sharing platters placed on the table and the guests help themselves.
What about seasonal weddings? What food is better for summer rather than winter?
Definitely menus should be based on seasons. There is no point putting a braised ox cheek with root vegetable dish on in the middle of summer. Food should match the time of year that way it keeps it simple and the ingredients can shine.
Any tips for couples on am tight wedding budget?
Decide on a nice, simple menu and price and stick to it. Don’t let the cater bully you into spending more than you budgeted for.
Any decadent ideas for those with a lot to spend?
I guess if you really wanted to impress your guest you could go for a menu that would include hot and cold canapes, 3-5 courses, Amuse Bouche in between each course followed by cheese and port trolleys

What is the most important thing to remember when catering for a wedding?

The food!!
What is your favourite wedding meal?
For me it would have to be a good charcuiterie selection along with some nice local cheeses and freshly baked bread. Cant get much better than that in my opinion!
Alex from the Pickled Fork is interviewed in The Wedding Survival Guide: How To Plan Your Big Day Without Losing Your Sanity. It has great advice on finding your perfect caterer and is written by our editor, Catherine Balavage.

Fashion Friday: The Gap Edition

I haven’t done a style post in what feels like forever and with being temporarily away from a computer due to a huge move to London. Yes I am moving closer the the Frost family soon…in less than 2 weeks!! So hopefully you will hear more from me on the fashion front in the future. We have some amazing collaborations with designers coming up combining my Photography and styling. I promise you it will dazzle your eyes and make you yearn for Autumn… Hey less of the teasing and back to todays post.

Anyway I have fallen madly, truly and deeply in love with everything that is Gap. This isn’t a sponsored article its just because they need a huge shout out on the style front. Gone are the days of just branded hoodies and staple jeans. Although I must say those too are rather fab and fit like a glove. I have become a dress girl over the last few months and Gap have got some crackers in store.

Sarah Bacchus Sarah Bacchus The Gap Dress-3 Sarah Bacchus The Gap Dress-4 Sarah Bacchus The Gap Dress-5 Sarah Bacchus The Gap DressThis little number is now in the sale and also comes in a Black and White version, you can check it out here. They both would be great for a late Summer wedding with killer heels, ideal for the office, or worn really casual with a pair of pretty flats on a sunday ramble into town for a coffee.

They have pockets too! We all love dresses with pockets don’t we! Fabulously elegant and perfect for nipping in the waist. They are lined so you can wear them in the cooler months with tights and boots. Add a cute leather jacket or cardigan while the weather changes and a tailored pea coat when the Winter rears its chilly head.

I styled this dress with last seasons Jigsaw wedges, River Island bag, vintage jewellery, New Look rose gold aviator sunglasses and some clip in hair extensions for a bit of glamor. Thurston Moore Joins The Blank Tapes

Thurston Moore returns with a special set of recordings for The Blank Tapes

Tumblr

Thurston Moore returns to North London independent record label Blank Editions with a new extended space age composition for the cassette series, Blank Tapes.

Inspired by the comet-chaser Rosetta presently orbiting an epic journey to 67P/Churyumov–Gerasimenko, Sonic Youth founder Thurston Moore sings to the spacecraft “you were born to catch her light / and revel in her flight / before she goes too far / to unnamed stars / into deepest solar reaches / past all she has yet to teach us….” with heavenly accompaniment by Hush Arbors on guitar, Samara Lubelski on ethereal violin and Sunburned Hand of the Man’s John Moloney on drums. This original seven minute and twenty second song is a rare treat from this group recorded to honour Sun Ra on the occasion of his Earth-birth centennial.

Side B’a “Rebellion of Joy” is a bliss-metal excursion of four minutes and twenty seconds splendid in instrumental chaos sounding much like the cassette’s cover artwork: Sun-drenched goddesses smeared into a black magick skull galaxy.

Produced by Ecstatic Peace Library in the name of Thurston’s unending love of the cassette tape format. Offered in a limited edition of 700 copies and presented in a library case with a full colour printed j card featuring collages by Julien Langendorff.

Blank Editions previously released Thurston Moore’s radical springtime protest single “Detonation.” Thurston Moore’s forthcoming full length record “The Best Day” will be released later this year by Matador Records also on cassette tape!
