Fashion International

Fashion International is an event that champions up and coming labels and gives a platform to young talent. It is held every fashion week along side the more established designers

This year the show was held at Charing Cross Hotel in Holborn. Press and buyers were seated in the suite around a circular catwalk in the Betjeman Suite. The designers showing this year for the SS14 show the designers were Wajahat Mirza, AGA, Yuvna Kim ,Dee Duce and Gianni Lilliu.

The designer who really stood out from the crowd was Yuvna Kim. Her esquiste evening gowns, which caused the audience to gasp, are beautifully made and are embroidered with crystals, beads and pearls. What was so special about this collection was not only the way it was made, but that the fabrics were sheer leaving the models half naked, revealing their bodies under neither or nude underwear. This could have gone horribly wrong, but Kim manages to make the dresses elegant, sophisticated and sexy all at the same time.

Other favorite looks were from Gianni Lilliu collection , which celebrates the female for and draws from the sculpt David Begbie’s studies of steel and bronze mesh. In particular a  gold and black baby dolls dress stood out, as well as the silhouettes and clean lines he managed to create with some great fabrics and materials throughout the collection.

Wajahat Mirza’s collection which was based on exotic birds also had some beautiful colourful and wearable evening gowns.

Sadly the thing that let down the show was the some of the too skinny models, which not only is a bad image to promote in the first place but it ruined the effect of the clothes, and instead of falling of the body as evening wear should it hung of them and didn’t show the clothes to their highest potential.
It is always good to see an events that champions young designers and Fashion International does it very well, putting on exiting events where the audience has a chance to mingle, meet the desingers and see some of the looks up close after the show over a glass of champagne.

Ming Pin Tien Bye Bye Youth AW13 | London Fashion Week 2013

Taiwanese fashion designer Ming-Pin Tein named his AW13 collection ‘Bye Bye Youth’. He sent the models down the catwalk to Wankelmut’s remix of One day/Reckoning, in knitted beanie hats and oversized white clothes. The clothes were structured, with clean lines. I loved the music, and I loved the clothes. Thumbs up.

Pritch London | London Fashion Week 2013

The beginning of London Fashion Week saw Handpicked Media throw their opening party which was hosted by Pritch. Pritch is a high end luxury brand who only use the finest leather to make their amazing jackets. I tried one on for size in the picture below. It was a brilliant opening party. Fashion photographer Gabor Zsantai was on hand to take some pictures. My good self and the Handpicked Media team are below.

There was also gorgeous shoes from Karen K Boutique. Me wants.

This was a favourite of mine:

Here is what Pritch says about their brand:

Rebellious In a Conservative Society

A fusion of the senses and styles, this new PRITCH collection perfectly balances a
rebellious duality of rock harmony and high-end classic chic. Inspired by the multi-layered
personality, the mysterious individuality, of the desirably affluent socially active woman, the
PRITCH Autumn Winter 13 collection confidently reflects her essence and independent
lifestyle.

Made in Italy and featuring only premium leathers such as Antelope Silk, Agneau Guanterie
and Agneau Guanterie Suede, the PRITCH palette is grounded in black in all its depths,
with winter accents of grey and customized silver zips, nickel studs, metal snaps and leather
feathers.

The theme is immediately visible as a unique mix of rock ‘n’ roll and haute couture expressed
in the jackets’ wonderfully soft-feel and seductive contours but strong and outspoken designs.
With patch-worked seams, well-placed hidden studs and removable parts, we see surprising
multi-functional elements too; allowing the wearer to match the look to the outfit and
occasion as they please. As a finishing touch, every item in the PRITCH collection features
an especially comfortable lining and distinctive hand-stitched style befitting the all-round
quality of the brand.

Giving you creations perfect for an evening at the ballet when zipped, and night of untamed
rock ‘n’ roll unzipped, PRITCH delivers an atmosphere of bold ‘laissez faire’; a seamless
fusion of naturally sexy, very classy, and really quite rebellious character in a conservative
society. Perfect for the affluent and indeed fascinating cosmopolitan woman. Dare to be. You.

Adam Andrascik AW13 | London Fashion Week 2013

Adam Andrascik’s AW13 collection was sumptuous. Brigitte Bardot meets Secretary. The clothes were beautifully cut and in beautiful Autumn colours. Lots of deep reds and sheer too. It was a very grown up collection full of separates that I wanted to fill my wardrobe with so I would never have nothing to wear ever again. Beautiful, just beautiful. Adam Andrascik really is a talent to watch.

DAS Collection S/S13 – VFS

The DAS Collection established in 2008, was set up by Emirati sisters Reem and Hind Beljafla. Their initial aim was to update the abaya making it a fashion statement whilst maintaining its heritage and respecting the tradition attached to it. The DAS Collections designs also aim to empower women allowing them to be fashionable and conservative at the same time.

I had never heard of DAS  until London Fashion Week, and was excited by their fashion aims and interested to see how they convey this through their designs. The DAS Spring/Summer 2013 Ready to wear collection definitely did not disappoint. The collection used rich bold colours which were clearly inspired by Middle East and Indian style. Each piece made from luxurious fabric and with impeccable detailing of Arabic calligraphy and beading giving the collection a very rich feel. I was impressed with the tailoring of their designs as they definitely fulfilled their brief and more.

It was a very cohesive collection starting with deep blues flowing into vibrant golds and reds. Some key pieces stood out a dipped hem dress in a crisp fabric which was both on trend with a sophisticated air. The stand out dress of the evening has to be the finale gown, worn by supermodel Alex Wek. Alex Wek was beaming as she strutted down the catwalk to the audiences applause. Her red dress was draped in pearls and she gave the audience a double twirl.

DAS Collection embraces Middle East and Indian style whilst fusing it with current western trends. With this seasons brocade and oriental trends this collection entwines this and creates both beautiful and elegant designs.

Take a look at their entire collection here : http://www.dascollection.com/

London Fashion Week 2012 in Pictures

It’s London Fashion Week time again. Frost popped along to Maria Grachvogel, Carlotta Actis Barone and Krystof by Krystof Strozyna. The clothes at Krystof were divine and Carlotta Actis Barone had ballet dancers who looked like they had stepped out of Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland. Maria Grashvogel was elegant and sophisticated. These three shows were particular highlights of London Fashion Week.
