Summer Drinks Review

summerdrinksreview

We got sent some summer drinks to review from Sainsbury’s: two cordials, Spanish pink grapefruits and guava purée, Ginger & Lime and a sparkling cocktail: Elderflower, Mint & Lime Blended Sparkling Cocktail. Let’s break them down.

Taste The Difference Grapefruit & Pink Guava, made with Spanish pink grapefruits and guava purée.

Absolutely delicious, summery and refreshing. The pink grapefruit mixed with the guava tastes great and really works. This is a perfect summer drink.

Taste The Difference Mexican Lime  & Ginger Cordial.

This is also excellent. It tastes very fresh and the two ingredients really work together. Quite addictive too.

Elderflower, Mint & Lime Blended Sparkling Cocktail.

This yummy cocktail is only 4% volume so you can enjoy it without worrying about hangovers or those awful headaches some people get when they drink in the sun. This cocktail is white wine mixed with elderflower, mint and lime. It is zesty, fresh and refreshing: a perfect summer cocktail. Recommended.

To celebrate the launch of two brand new seasonal Taste the Difference cordials, Sainsbury’s has created three delicious punch recipes for sharing with friends and family while entertaining this summer. The new cordial flavours; Grapefruit & Pink Guava, made with Spanish pink grapefruits and guava purée; and Ginger & Lime, made with Mexican limes, add to the existing range featuring Taste the Difference Elderflower Cordial. These cocktails have been especially designed as long drinks for pitcher measures to be easy to make and refreshing on a hot (or overcast) British Summer’s day.

First up is a citrussy, sparkling, Vodka based cocktail, Sunrise Fizz, which will transport drinkers to the tropics; even if the British Summer is more likely to be torrential than tropical:

To make:
• Pour 180ml of Sainsbury’s Vodka into a jug
• Add 120ml Taste the Difference Spanish Pink Grapefruit & Guava Cordial
• Top up with fizzy water
• Finish with the juice of one grapefruit and garnish with slices of pink grapefruit

If you fancy the taste of an English country garden, then try Sainsbury’s English Garden Cup. This gin and elderflower based drink is the perfect refreshment for a lazy weekend afternoon:

To make:
• Pour 180ml Sainsbury’s Dry London Gin into a pitcher
• Add 120ml Taste the Difference Elderflower Cordial
• Top up with fizzy water
• Finish with the juice of two lemons and garnish with slices of lemon

And finally, Shoot the Breeze, a delicious Rum, ginger and lime punch. Aromatic and spicy, this cocktail will really help to get the party started:

To make:
• Pour 180ml Sainsbury’s Superior White Rum into a jug
• Add 120ml Taste the Difference Mexican Lime & Ginger Cordial
• Top up with ginger ale
• Finish with the juice of two limes and garnish with slices of lime

For an even easier way to enjoy these summer flavours, Sainsbury’s has also launched two new sparkling wine cocktails in the Winemakers’ Selection range; Elderflower, Lime & Mint Fizz Sparkling Cocktail; and Pink Grapefruit Sparkling Cocktail. These are low in alcohol and blended with fruit extracts and Spanish white wine for a refreshing ready-to-drink option.

Pricing details:
Taste the Difference Mexican Lime & Ginger Cordial 500ml £1.85
Taste the Difference Spanish Pink Grapefruit and Guava Cordial 500ml £2
Sainsbury’s Winemakers’ Selection Elderflower Lime & Mint Fizz 75cl 4% ABV £3

CurraNZ Supplement Review | Health

We are on a major health kick here at Frost and always looking for the next health trend.

product
Fitness supplements are always big news, anything that makes the body work a bit better or the skin looking healthier.

So we tried new natural supplement, CurraNZ, which is made from 100% concentrated New Zealand blackcurrant powder, which have been proven to benefit those who regularly exercise. The berries have anti-inflammatory properties as well as promoting circulation and reducing lactic acid build-up, allowing people to train harder for longer. It also reportedly dramatically reduces menopausal flushes.

Taken in capsule form, the supplement is an easy way of ingesting extra goodness without making food taste funky as some other fruit & veg powders do! As a superfood, New Zealand blackcurrants are also incredibly high in antioxidants with 100mg of fresh fruit providing 12,881 ORAC, compared to blueberries 6,341 and green tea 1,500. The product costs £29 for a month’s supply (30 capsules) and is available online at healthcurrancy.co.uk. It is also vegan friendly.

What did we think? First of all, it didn’t taste horrible, which is always good. We tried a month’s supply and by the end our skin was definitely improved, we were slimmer (we did use it when exercising but it seemed to make weight loss happen faster) and we definitely think it helped with lactic acid build up as we took the supplement just before we worked out. By the end we were actually glowing.

We are definitely fans of CurraNZ. We think it certainly has health benefits.

Botox and Fillers- How Young is Too Young?

tulisacosmeticsurgeryBy Dr. Paul Munsanje

This week everyone has been talking about Tulisa, a beautiful ‘girl next door’ who recently appeared in court, and subsequently had an unrelated trial by tabloid and social media for a suspected lip job and cheek work. Indeed it was later confirmed by Tulisa that she had indeed had cosmetic work. But why has there been such an interest in Tulisa’s face? For most, it is Tulisa’s age. Why is a beautiful, 26 year old girl wanting to change her appearance? We asked Dr. Paul Munsanje, of Amara Aesthetics and Beyond MediSpa Harvey Nichols in Knightsbridge; How young is too young when it comes to botox, fillers and other cosmetic procedures?

“I get a lot of questions from nervous first timers in my clinic. ‘Am I too young to have cosmetic work done?’; ‘Do a lot of people get this done?’ and ‘What age do most people start getting treatments’. In the past 10 years the big question seems to have changed from ‘Should I get some work done’ to ‘Have I left it too late?'”

So how young is too young?

In my clinics, 19-35 is the age group where lip fillers are most popular. Thankfully most girls want a subtle ‘did she?’ rather than a ‘no she didnt!’ look. However, some girls don’t realise that lip fillers, as a medical procedure, have risks and complications. Although lip fillers generally last between 6 and 18 months, they need to be taken more seriously than getting your hair dyed a different colour.

To me it is fairly obvious that Tulisa has just had her lips done. I think if we’d never seen Tulisa before we probably wouldn’t have noticed her new lips and she would just be seen as having nice lips. Some of the worst pictures are clearly from a bad angle and taken while the lips are moving which could make anyone look like they had work done!  Also often people’s lips swell in the first day after fillers so she may have simply timed her treatment badly!

Botox is a completely different animal. Very few girls who come in for treatment are under 25. In fact, most women starting now come for their first treatment between 28 and 35. Some girls come younger thinking they need it for prevention. I happily explain that yes, botox is even better as prevention than as cure, but if you are under 25 and you don’t have a line that stays when you stop frowning, you don’t need it. I think some of my happiest customers are those that are told they don’t need any work done yet!

The best thing about a gentle filler or Botox treatment is it can be done in such a way that a treatment is ‘plausibly deniable’. If you swore to your best friend that you did not have botox/fillers would they believe you? If the answer is no, then your treatment is not plausibly deniable. Let me give you some examples. Halle Berry.. plausibly deniable. Lulu.. not plausibly deniable. Tulisa … not plausibly deniable. Less is more!

Nehedar

Bio:

Nehedar is the project of NYC-based singer/songwriter Emilia Cataldo, who is releasing her 7th independent album “The Warming House” on Aug 13.

On the new record, Nehedar continues to blend her antifolk-rock style with other unexpected sounds and genres, only this time with a deeper Americana influence. The result, is mesmerizing.

The Warming House – which is the artist’s first crowd funded album and was recorded in Brooklyn with producer Little Pioneer (Craig Levy) – takes listeners on a journey spanning down-home fiddling to majestic horn parts to electronic beats, from angry punk to upbeat pop to sad folk to playful country tunes to feminist anthems.

While blending and shifting between genres has always been part of the music of Nehedar, The Warming House represents a true crystallization of her all-embracing, diverse musical style. It is the artist at her most mature and fully developed stage.

Cataldo began performing her original music in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, and NYC’s Lower East Side in 2003, and the anti-folk influences from those early years still shows.

She released her first album “Pick Your Battles” in 2007, and has released one album per year, every year since.

To gain a deeper understanding of Nehedar, one needs to understand her eclectic background.

The child of free-spirited, nomadic musicians, Cataldo grew up exposed to a wide variety of cultural and musical influences – treasures she has drawn from to create her richly layered recordings that have always been best described as original.

Her father is a saxophone playing Nuyorican (Puerto Rican New Yorker) jazzman. Her mother was a classically trained piano teacher who liked folk music. Together, they would shut themselves up in their room every night to practice while their six young children ran wild.

The music of Nehedar reflects Cataldo’s fascinating journey through life From the Latin influenced environment where she helped her father run his liquor store as a girl in Miami, to a troubling adolescence in the fascinating midwestern town of Zion, Illinois (which she draws from in The Warming House’s nostalgic title track).

Cataldo left Zion at 17, and traveled with the Rainbow Family of Living Light, where she began learning about her mystical Jewish heritage. That led to her taking on the name Nehedar (which means “wondrous” in hebrew) for her and her band, and Jewish mysticism continues to infuse her work.
