Westlab Pure Mineral Bathing Himalayan Salt Review

himalayan_salt_new

We are on a health kick here at Frost, reviewing different products and trying out different exercise routines. Shortcuts are always welcome, which is why we reviewed bath salts, which are used by celebrities to detox and beat the bloat.

Specifically, we reviewed Himalayan Pink Salt from Westlab.

This salt is beautiful. A wonderful pink colour. It is easy to use of course, you just put it in your bath 100-200g for general wellbeing and 1kg for detoxification.

It sure makes the bath look pretty and after the bath it makes you look slimmer and your skin feels very soft. The benefits are immediate and only get better with long term use. We are sold and will be buying salt in bulk in the future. This is good stuff. We recommend you add salt to your beauty routine.

Himalayan salt is packed full of minerals, known for its detoxifying properties, Westlab have a mining company in the Himalayas where the salt crystals are dug out of the mountains to make our amazing scrubs, bath soaks and salt lamps. Westlab Himalayan salt can be a great and incredibly detoxifying bath salt just on its own.

The book Salt & Water by Dr Barbara Hendel claims that a 30 minute soak in a bath filled with 1kg of Himalayan Salt has the same detoxing effect as a three day fast.

Harvested from high in the Himalayan mountain range, Himalayan pink salt isn’t just pretty to look at, it’s good for you, too. Himalayan pink salt can be used for cooking, in spa treatments and in cosmetics. It can also be used as a natural healing treatment.

The magic of the pink salt

Himalayan pink salt isn’t any normal salt. It contains 84 minerals and trace elements that are highly beneficial for the body including magnesium, calcium, copper, potassium and iron, according to the website The Greater Green. “Regular consumption of Himalayan pink salt provides essential minerals, trace elements, balances electrolytes, supports proper nutrient absorption, eliminates toxins, balances the body’s pH, normalizes blood pressure, and increases circulation and conductivity,” according to the website.

The salt sometimes comes out in a reddish or pink color, with some crystals having an off-white to transparent color. It is commonly used for cooking similar to regular table salt, brine and bath products.

Kiss Your Fights Good-Bye Book Review

Kiss Your Fights Good-byeKiss Your Fights Good-bye: Dr. Love’s 10 Simple Steps to Cooling Conflict and Rekindling Your Relationship by America’s “love doctor”, Dr. Jamie Turndorf is an interesting read. Everyone spends time thinking about their relationships. The book is a practical 10-step programme that says it will help achieve a deeper, healthier bond with your partners.

I have a good relationship with my other half and there aren’t any huge issues but I was still excited to read the book and pick up some tips, but to be honest I didn’t relate to the book. I thought it had too many gender stereotypes that I could not relate to. Like women withholding sex as punishment or to get what they want- which I actually thought was offensive, and that men just withdraw every time a fight happens. I also did not like some of the scenarios with couples. The men calling their wives bitches for example. If a man called me a bitch there would not be a relationship to fix.

I feel that this book is for people with worse relationships than me, or people who are more suited to typical gender stereotypes. It is not that it doesn’t have any good advice: it does but most of it was not relatable to me. Worth a read if your fighting all of the time and you, or your partner, fit the stereotypes.

Known to millions as ‘Dr. Love’, Jamie Turndorf, PhD, has been seen on numerous TV shows and has over 30 years’ experience as a relationship counsellor. Her impressive endorsements include:

“Dr Turndorf has relationships figured out. If you want a great relationship, you must follow her ten-step method for lasting love.” – Jack Canfield, Chicken Soup for the Soul.

“If anger and fighting are ruining your dream of a happy marriage (or relationship), Dr Turndorf’s conflict-resolution programme is for you.” – John Gray, author of the #1 New York Times bestseller Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus

The Future of Meat

TOAST Presents:
The Future of Meat
5th April
Hawksmoor Guildhall

The team behind TOAST are back and this time they’re delving into the meatiest of subjects.
From what you read in the papers, carnivores of the future will dine on horsemeat burgers, grasshopper canapés, and mince grown in petri dishes. But sensational headlines aside, what is the future of meat?

thefutureofmeatTOAST have partnered with Hawksmoor and The Ginger Pig to bring together three experts on the topic: Hawksmoor executive chef Richard Turner, The Ginger Pig owner Tim Wilson, and Philip Lymbery, CEO of charity Compassion in World Farming and author of Farmageddon: The True Cost of Cheap Meat. The panel will share their perspectives on the UK’s current relationship with meat, what a healthy, sustainable supply chain could look like, and what we’ll really be eating 100 years from now.

In association with The Ginger Pig and taking place at city steak-institution Hawksmoor Guildhall on Saturday 5th April, the event will not only bring together some of the meatiest minds in the business, but a bevy of delicious brunch dishes and an expertly blended Bloody Mary or two.

Kicking off at 11.30am, guests will enjoy that most stirring of brunch cocktails before cracking on with a debate led by three men who know a thing or two about meat.

First up, The Ginger Pig owner Tim Wilson, one of the most respected meat producers in Britain. Having won countless accolades, including Best Food Producer in the Observer Food Awards, his opinion promises to be as conscientious as his award-winning produce.

No stranger to the subject himself is Richard Turner, Group Executive Chef of Hawksmoor, who has planned and overseen the kitchens of all five of Hawksmoor’s London outposts, co-authored the Hawksmoor at Home cookbook and worked with Meatopia events, Turner and George butchers and PittCue Co. Stepping out from behind the stoves for this special event, Richard is sure to bring his extensive expertise to the table.

Last but not least is Chief Executive Officer of Compassion in World Farming, Philip Lymbery, whose book Farmageddon: The True Cost of Cheap Meat was published earlier this year to wide acclaim. Having campaigned ceaselessly for the fair farming of animals since the 90s, Philip’s passionate views promise to set the debate alight.

Once those minds have been given a vigorous workout, guests will enjoy a sharing-style brunch cooked by the team at Hawksmoor Guildhall (using produce from The Ginger Pig of course!). Turning the concept of the Full English on its head, the spread will attempt to show how meat can be used sparingly to create a sumptuous feast. Dynamic yet delicious dishes will include pig cheek scrapple with grits, short-rib bubble and squeak, homemade baked beans, fried eggs, black pudding, hash browns and piles of toast with plenty of butter.

On sale now at http://www.eatdrinktoast.com/events tickets cost £40 and will include a Bloody Mary on arrival, the ‘The Future of Meat’ debate and brunch.

Bio:
Punk spirit, Rock culture, Reggae sound.

Founded in 2002, DRUNKSOULS are a French reggae band who have garnered worldwide acclaim and word-of-mouth, thanks largely to the international success of their “Human Race” song and music video, which has garnered over 2 million views to date. Likened to an original blend of Manu Chao, Gorillaz, Michael Jackson, RHCP and Damian Marley, their music is a patchwork of influences intended to make you dance as well as think. The Daily Consciousness says they’re “creating a unique sound with little to no borders.” Their songs, sometimes playful and sometimes dark, carry a message of reconciliation and tolerance, in which humor and gravity are intelligently cohabiting. Rock Is Rock says of the band “Dead Prez called themselves ‘Revolutionary but Gangster’. If that’s the case then DRUNKSOULS are ‘Revolutionary but Funny’.”

DRUNKSOULS have received a high amount of word-of-mouth from their fanbase, generating over 100,000 downloads of their debut album, and over 2 000 000  YouTube views of their viral music video “Human Race”, which has also been seen by millions in North America on California Music Channel, MusicMix USA, Alternative Currents and many others. The video’s success was due partially to it’s breathtaking footage, taken from the multi-award winning documentary “I Believe I Can Fly”. The film was directed by Sébastien Montaz-Rosset and based on the Skyliners, a team of French adventurers who specialize in highline tightrope walking, basejumping, and mountaineering. It won the Jury’s award at the Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival. HIP Video Promo who promoted Johnny Cash’s “Hurt” music video and have worked with Bon Iver, Of
Montreal and Death Cab for Cutie describe the video as “an exhilarating ride.”

DRUNKSOULS have played in legendary venues such as the mythical stage of Olympia-Bruno Coquatrix and the Grand Auditorium du Palais des Festivals de Cannes, one of the events supporting the African Reggae Star Tiken Jah Fakoli.

The critical acclaim and rapidly growing North American fanbase have encouraged DRUNKSOULS to come to the U.S for an ambitious tour, they are currently looking for partners to do so. The band’s current CD “Revolution” is a 16 track album offering of rock, reggae, electro, funk and pop. Building on the success of their debut, the band continues on the path of poppy hooks and political/emotional lyrics with tracks like “Human Race”, “The Fall” and “Revolution”. “Revolution” has earned them recommendations from tastemakers worldwide.

To celebrate their growing success, DRUNKSOULS are now releasing “Just Before Chaos” a compilation CD featuring their best work, intended to introduce more of the world to the DRUNKSOULS sound.

Do You Need To Neuter Your Pet?

Tortoiseshell_she-catSpring is here the season of new life, as we all know many animals have babies at this time of year. However, this is not always planned or well received. Many pet owners find themselves responsible for litters of kittens and rabbits unexpectedly. As a result, rescue centres across the UK are struggling to cope with the number of animals in rescue.

67,000 rabbits go into rescue care in the UK each year. Recent figures from the RSPCA revealed that more than 37,000 animals were dumped across England and Wales last year, a rise of 34%, from the previous year*. Burns Pet Nutrition is urging pet owners to ensure they don’t fuel the crisis.

As a nation we need to be responsible for neutering our pets and develop a better understanding of how to manage breeding. Fiona Firth, Head Nutritionist at Burns Pet Nutrition has advice for pet owners on how to take care of their pets and prevent unwanted pregnancies this spring.

Cats

One cat can breed 20,000 descendants in just five years*. Cats Protection neuters 175,000 cats a year but there are still thousands without homes. Your pet cat and any kittens can become pregnant from as young as four months.

The cat breeding season is usually between February and August. If your pet isn’t neutered be aware she will have regular heat cycles when she seeks to attract a mate. Indicative behaviours include, restlessness, an increase in appetite and loud meowing.

Be aware this is her attempt to attract a mate. You may also observe her crouching, pressed
downwards but extending her back. If your cat hasn’t been neutered it may be an idea to keep her indoors to protect her from pregnancy and even diseases from stray Tom cats.

Cats usually experience puberty at around five to eight months but it can happen even earlier depending on the breed of cat. You can neuter both male and female cats from an early age. The vet responsible will advise when they recommend carrying out the neutering operation – usually at around four months of age.

Rabbits

Accidental breeding is one of the main contributing factors to the 67,000 rabbits in rescue. In the first instance, if you are buying two rabbits, be extremely cautious that you have the same sex rabbits. This is a common mistake easy to make.

Like cats, rabbits can breed from a surprisingly young age and can reach sexual maturity between five and eight months of age. A female rabbit can be impregnated again, just hours after giving birth!

This can result in another litter of baby bunnies before the first has even been weaned. A potentially overwhelming situation for your rabbit and you!

Neutering prevents or stops this cycle. This is important to your rabbit’s wellbeing and helps prevent the development of diseases. Spaying is important for your female rabbit in particular, as it reduces the risk of her developing cancer of the womb. Up to 80% of un-neutered female rabbits can develop cancer of the uterus.

Spaying can also assist with your female rabbit’s behaviour as when in heat she may show signs of aggression. Female rabbits can be spayed at around four months of age but again your vet will advise on when to perform the neutering.

Rabbits do like company, beware two rabbits of the same sex (two males) or (two females) will fight if not neutered once their hormones kick in. The best combination for companionship is a male and female pair with both neutered.

Mews Of Mayfair Restaurant Review

Mews of Mayfair, the British bar and brasserie, is hidden away in the heart of London down a small side street just off Bond street. The main restaurant room has been beautifully decorated and its atmosphere is relaxed.

photo 1 (14)photo 2 (16)

We started our bottomless brunch with a delicious Mimosa and Bellini. They were well made and generous with the alcohol content.

Like many restaurants at the moment Mews is offering limitless refills of Mimosa’s, Bellini’s and Bloody Mary’s at just £15 a head. We certainly approve. Not having to worry too much about cost allows you to get on with enjoying your lunch!

Eggs Benedict

To start with we had an Eggs Benedict. A classic combination and still one of my favourites. As someone who has sampled many versions of this dish I can honestly say this was one of the best I’ve had. It was packed with flavour. The Hollandaise sauce was flawless and when it was combined with the gooey egg yolk, ham and toast it was devine. It really was a treat and the portion was extremely generous as you can see. A perfect start.

photo 4 (8)

Dorset Crab

This dish did a brilliant job of letting the crab, the star of the dish, shine. The crab was very tasty and fresh and the plate brought pack memories of the sea. The crab lay on a slice of toasted brioche. The slight sweetness of the brioche actually worked really well against the meatiness of the crab. The textures were very soft which was surprising but actually worked very well. Another superb dish

photo 3 (10)

Fish and Chips

This was another extremely generous portion, the fish was huge. This was definitely a bottomless brunch. The sweet mushy peas were delicious as was the fantastic fresh tartar sauce. The fish and chips were tasty but didn’t blow us away.

photo 2 (17)

Chicken

The chicken was cooked perfectly. It was very juicy and had a delicious crispy skin. The duck fat roast potatoes were stunning, absolutely perfect. The whole dish was perfectly seasoned and the stuffing and gravy added loads of flavour. Once again the portion was huge. By this stage we were absolutely stuffed. You couldn’t ask for much more from your lunch.

Pancake

This pancake was packed with fresh fruit and drizzled with honey. It also came with some delicious cream but it could have done with a bit more sauce of some kind.

Eton Mess

Eton mess is one of my favourite puddings. It embodies everything that a good pudding should be. This Eton Mess was made with blackberries. It was light creamy and delicious and went really well with the coulis and meringue crumb. A very good pudding.

We had a wonderful meal and really enjoyed ourselves. Mews had some truly excellent food and the atmosphere and service were perfect. Definitely worth a visit.
