Nipa Thai London

Nipa Thai is one of the hidden gems of London.  A fairly small and intimate setting with exceptional staff and decor.

Nipa (meaning pretty lady) is quite frankly amazing and has won the prestigious Thai Select award from the Thai Government for the highest standards of quality and fine food. There are only 14 other award holders in the whole of the UK, the equivalent of a Michelin star!

Once you have entered the hotel take the stairs up to the stunning terrace and enter the restaurant. We where lucky enough to visit when all the decorations where up and looking festive and pretty.

You will be welcomed with open arms when entering the restaurant by the most delightful and beautifully dressed staff.

Nipa Thai

Nipa Thai-24 Nipa Thai-23The gorgeous menu will have you salivating and excited right from the start. We promise you wont be disappointed with any dish.

Once we had sat down the staff suggested some great wine to accompany our meal. We where treated to Vegetarian pad thai. Steamed sea bass with chilli and garlic sauce. Sweet and sour chicken along with sticky rice and a bowl of delicate jasmine infused plain rice. Nipa Thai-13 Nipa Thai-11 Nipa Thai-10 Nipa Thai-9 Nipa Thai-8 Nipa Thai-7

The intimate ambiance of the entire restaurant will leave you feeling relaxed and totally satisfied. Further more the staff have to be the best in London. The food was mind blowing and we have been totally spoilt now due to the delicate and incredible flavours and textures of the sumptuous sea bass. The best we have ever had and we love our fish.

Nipa Thai-6

The pad thai was perfect and complimented both dishes so well. Crisp and delicate at the same time.

We then moved on to pudding….now this has to be said by the time we had eaten so much wonderful food I really didn’t think it would be possible to top the meal…Well I was wrong.

A hot clean towel to freshen up in between service.

Then feast your eyes on these babies below. Deep fried ice cream and a selection of tropical hand carved fruits. The highlight of the evening. Such talent in the cooking and presentation will have you gushing about this place for weeks once you have eaten here.

Darts World Champions Return To Norwich For The BetVision Norwich Charity Darts Masters 2015

maxresdefault[1]John_Lowemanley-slider-img-4keith-deller-takes-world-301-record

A host of former World Champion darts stars have signed up for the first BetVision Norwich Charity Darts Masters to be held at Norwich City Football Club on Saturday 27th June 2015. The event itself will be held in the Norfolk Suite providing a fantastic location for a very prestigious event.

The event is being organised and promoted by Lord Russell Baker of Little Moulton who is looking to fundraise for the ‘Lord Baker Community Fund’ managed by The Norfolk Community Foundation. The main aim of the ‘Lord Baker Community Fund’ is to promote health and wellbeing; tackle disadvantage; support local solutions to meet local needs; promote community cohesion; develop sustainable and supportive communities and to deliver grant-making and charity support for the current fund beneficiaries that include East Anglia Children’s Hospices (EACH), Star Throwers Cancer Care & Support, Chapel Road School for Severely Disabled Children and Norfolk Community Foundation, who will also create a Community Grant programme which will be advertised and local community groups will be invited to apply for grants up to £1,000.

The World dart stars attending on the evening are Eric Bristow MBE (5 x World Champion; John Lowe (3 x World Champion); Peter Manley (former World No.1 and 3 x World Finalist) and from Suffolk – the youngest ever World darts champion, Keith Deller.

The event offers everyone on the night a chance to play at least one of these former World champions and master darts players. In addition there will be a small competition with the darts masters consisting of two semi-finals and a Final on the night – playing for the Norwich Charity Darts Masters Trophy. It is envisaged that this event and competition will become an annual event in Norwich for many years. The trophy itself has been donated by David Willimott from Carmichaels Dart Mart in Magdalen Street, Norwich. David Willimott is the former Suffolk darts champion and has had the privilege to play these players on many occasions. In fact a score card still hangs in Carmichaels Dart Mart when John Lowe played David some years ago; David Willimott will be attending on the evening as a special guest.

John Lowe said, “Eric Bristow, Keith Deller, Peter Manley and myself will by playing at the Norwich City Football Club in aid of the Norfolk Community Foundation and other local charities’. It will be a great night, for me it will be a reunion with friends made over many years.  I first visited Norwich in the late 70’s and I have to say if ever I was to move from my beloved Chesterfield, Norwich would have been my first choice, not because they have a church for every day of the year and just as many pubs, but because I made friends that became everlasting friends.”  John Lowe added, “The 27th June 2015 will have a great line up, but for me it will be the Norwich Big Reunion, see you there my friends.”  Lord Baker said, “This is going to be a massive night and one that should put Norwich and Norfolk back where they belong, in the ‘Premiership’ of Darts. We are hoping to raise much needed funds to support local charities and community projects through the ‘Lord Baker Community Fund’, and I am expecting this event to become an annual community fundraising event for years to come, with various darts masters and former World champions attending each year.”  Lord Baker added, “The Norwich Charity Darts Masters Trophy will hopefully become a prestigious trophy too, and over the years will bear the names of many World darts stars making the trophy a potential fundraising auction item too in the years to come”.  Graham Tuttle, Chief Executive of the Norfolk Community Foundation said, “The first Norwich Masters Dart Event will be a great event on the Norfolk calendar next year and the Norfolk Community Foundation is really pleased to be working with Lord Baker in such an innovative fundraising event for local charities and community groups across Norfolk”.  Steven Ho from Star Throwers said, “We are very grateful that Lord Baker is supporting Star Throwers again with this fantastic darts fundraiser. Russell organised a darts evening in May which was itself a fantastic evening but this one is looking like it will be even bigger and better! Russell’s continued fundraising means a great deal to our charity as it will help us to continue to provide advice and support to cancer patients and their loved ones”.  Laura Carver from EACH said, “We are delighted to be one of the beneficiaries of Lord Baker’s fundraising events and thank him sincerely for his fantastic efforts in helping to ensure we can continue caring for children and young people with life threatening or life limiting conditions and supporting their families in the community. Lord Baker’s fundraising efforts are truly inspirational and we urge the public to support his events. They really are enjoyable occasions and what’s more, help to raise much needed funds for local charities”.

What was the best festival of 2014? Olivia Outram spills the Secret

SGP

The Secret Garden Party

So with the initial line up for 2015 released this week, I think it’s about time to gush a bit about my festival of last summer.

The Music
As the sun went down over the main stage on a balmy Saturday evening Sub Motion Orchestra revealed themselves as the standout performers of the festival for me. Theirs was the kind of bass that makes the earth, not shake, that wouldn’t be the right word, but sway in a luxurious, sensual manner. Ruby Wood’s ethereally jazzy vocals were the cherry on a quite delectably sexy cake. Clean Bandit have really upped their game since doing the festival rounds in 2013, commanding the main stage with tens of thousands of festival goers singing back their lyrics. And for the late night lovers, Sigma “absolutely smashed it” (as Cheryl Cole might say) in Temple of Boom post 3am. My only personal disappointment was standing pride of place on the top platform of the Collisillium, having elbowed hundreds of people out of the way, waiting for this year’s secret act to perform (Chase and Status again…) at the stroke of midnight – Only to be left waiting… and waiting… and waiting… Rumour has it they finally rocked up over two and a half hours late. Not. Cool.

The Locale
This really was the ultimate adult’s playground, whether you like it colourful, eerie, hard-core or filled with sunflowers, there was a playground for every personality. There was also the option of swimming in the lake, which might sound spontaneous but after you’d donned your sexiest swimsuit you were left standing in line for the best part of an hour waiting to be refreshed (or, let’s be honest, have a replacement bath). To be fair the excessive queue was no doubt due to the scorchingly hot weather we enjoyed at SGP this year (Sorry (not sorry) to all of you who pinned your festival hopes and dreams on Glastonbury but forewent your summer glow for trench foot). From secret tunnels, floating dance floors, winding forests and colossal stages to fields filled to the brim with 6 foot tall giant sunflowers hidden behind a secret portaloo door – the one thing we can all admit is the hills of Abbots Ripton are transformed into something truly magical, that even Alice in Wonderland would gawk at.

Local Wildlife
The clientele cannot go unmentioned. It seemed like this year’s festival had an unparalleled supply of beautiful people – everywhere you looked you saw another “genetic lottery winner”, as one companion commented. As ever, body paint, glitter and “quirky” headwear were all the rage. Meaning the usually bold and unique individual fizzled into the crowd. Those who really wanted to stand out, and there were quite a few, dispensed with the outfits altogether, some choosing to don only carefully applied body paint and a few of the most adventurous opting for just the glow of the summer sun and a dab of moisturiser. For the sake of their nipples, I sincerely hope one with SPF.

Inevitable Celebrity Sighting
This bit all depends on your definition of “celebrity”… you could feast your eyes on pretty much the entire cast of Made in Chelsea. Alex Mytton even made the sought-after headlines of Daily Mail Online with his episode of “exhaustion”. For the more refined celebrity oglers, his royal highness (absolutely no pun intended) Prince Harry graced us with his presence in full Secret Garden Party glittery glory with his face painted a smirf-tastic shade of ‘royal’ blue.

Transcendent-moment-where-everything-makes-sense
As the sun dipped behind the horizon on the Saturday evening, it was replaced by a spectacle of fiery colourful delight with the annual SGP fireworks extravaganza. I think you’d be hard pressed to find a Secret Gardener who didn’t suddenly think their drink had been spiked with the best type of acid, when a plane flying low rained giant bubbles over the entire festival’s heads. This, combined with the darting lasers piercing the wobbly, translucent globules made for a truly incredible vision. The whole of the main stage appeared to be covered in glittering fairy dust. Either that … or the drive to the festival from the station with the utterly charming former Police Constable Simon, now of ‘Steve’s Cars’. Simon you are an utter legend.

Royal China Baker Street London

Royal China is known for its Dim Sum. Tantalising handmade parcels of tasty delights. Royal China’s Dim Sum is prepared on a daily basis by a team of dedicated Dim Sum chefs using only best ingredients. Created with utter love and devotion, each chef is trained to the highest standard and this really shows when the food arrives at the table.

We recently enjoyed the most incredible meal at Royal China along Baker street. The menu is so beautifully presented and its really easy to pick all the dishes you want. Myself and Lottie went along one mid week lunchtime thinking it would be a little quieter…NO! This place gets packed. We headed in and where given an impressive menu with lavish offerings.

We sipped bubble virgin cocktails. Totally mind blowing with Little beads of juice bobbing around ready to be sucked up the oversized straws. Totally delightful and incredibly moorish. Strawberry, lychee and Passion fruit are the options and we just had to try every one! I couldn’t possibly tell you what one was the best as they where all delicious. Then it was time to choose from the tremendous well laid out menu…

We drank jasmine tea as we assessed the stunning menu and our surroundings.

Finally we decided what we wanted off the eye catching menu. Once we ordered it came to the table in record time. With our eyes all lit up we set about digging in to this amazing array of dishes.

Royal China -17 Royal China -18 Royal China -19

Feeling like Royalty we ate dumplings with various vegetarian and fish fillings. The Scallops where totally delicious and tender. The sesame spring rolls melted in the mouth and our mains of prawn wonton noodle soup and mushroom fried noodles had us reminiscing all afternoon. Every bite was delightful.

The presentation, flavours and attentive staff make this place stand out a mile. Whats more all this gorgeous food was so reasonable.

We highly advise a visit very soon. You will need to make reservations if you don’t want to be disappointed. Make sure you go hungry as you will want to try as many dishes as possible.

The portion sizes are exceptional and you won’t leave feeling disappointed we promise you!

See if you can manage to try all the bubble cocktails too. We will defiantly be back for more of those very soon thats for sure. Just don’t try to fit all the beads in your mouth at once like Lottie! They where just too good not to finish off!

You can find their Flagship restaurant Royal China along 23-25 Baker Street London.

The Stoptober Challenge: The Round Up

So it is over. No more Stoptober. I am pretty pleased with myself. I think it went quite well. I haven’t been smoking and hope this will continue. It is still hard sometimes but I have come a long way. I wobbled many times. I don’t want the hard work to be for nothing

Along the way I have done a lot of challenges. The first one was preparing for success and Boots UK pharmacist Angela Chambers gave some great tips. I wrote about this in my first post.

The second challenge was taste. Smoking dulls your taste buds so when you quit everything tastes better. For this challenge I baked. It was fun. Boots UK sent an exclusive recipe box packed with a bespoke recipe and all the ingredients I needed. I loved the end result and the taste was amazing.

bakingcookiesstoptober

I took part in a Twitter party which was hosted by Beautyandthedirt, Sexinlondoncity and Angela Chalmers who is a Boots Expert. This was between 1-2pm on October 16th. The Twitter Party was a lot of fun and I learned a lot. A lot of people got involved and I think it was a success.

Next up I took some time to stop and smell the roses.

roses

To celebrate reaching my third smoke free week, and the return of my sense of smell, Boots UK sent me these gorgeous flowers. Smoking alters the way you smell things. The reasons to stop smoking keep building up. The flowers are also very beautiful. If you are also trying to stop smoking head to Boots UK Stop Smoking.

Challenge Four was all about how quitting smoking is great for your appearance. Smoking can impact your appearance, affecting your complexion, reducing the nutrients in your hair and leading to staining of the teeth, though luckily giving up smoking can reverse these changes. To celebrate this Boots UK partnered with leading fashion photographer Claire Pepper to develop some top tips on taking the perfect selfie.

perfecrtselfie

Fashion photographer Claire Pepper shares tips on how to take the perfect selfie

It’s all about the lighting!

Get the lighting right, and you are 90% of the way to achieving your perfect selfie.  Ideally you want natural daylight, but if it is really sunny then move away from direct sun into a shady area.  If you are inside, find a window or the biggest, softest light source around and stand nice and close to it.  Always have the light source in front of you – side lighting is unflattering and back lighting doesn’t capture very well on most mobile phones.

Attention to detail

Selfies should be spontaneous but try to take a few moments to check the background is free from clutter or strange reflections. Also check your hair and make-up, and take a moment to consider the composition of your shot, and whether it would work best in landscape or portrait.

Trial and Error

You might want to experiment to see if there is much difference in quality between the front and back cameras on your phone.  Some phones have a much better quality camera on the back so take two snaps and compare them to see if one looks grainier.  Also try taking the cover off your phone – some covers can cause a bit of softening around the periphery of the image or can affect focus so give it a go and you might be surprised what a difference it makes.

Find your angle

Different angles suit different faces so learn what works for you – take lots of pictures to see what works – you can always delete any you don’t like!  Generally keeping your chin down is quite flattering and turning your face to one side works for most people.  Don’t forget to keep your eyes on the camera lens not the screen as it’s much more engaging.

Post production

Finally, perfect your portrait with an image editing app.  A specialist app like Camera+ gives you control over every aspect of the image, as well as giving you the option to add borders and captions.  If you are bored of using the same filters all the time try the VSCO Cam app that gives you a really wide selection and the ability to customise your selfie – you can achieve results that would take some time in Photoshop within seconds.  If you want to zap a blemish try an app like Facetune, but take it easy editing your face – it’s easy to go too far and it can look quite obvious.

Overall I feel great and stopping smoking was the best thing I have ever done. Try it and you won’t look back. Promise.
