JACK THE RIPPER: THE GERMAN SUSPECT {TV Preview}

Arguably , no serial Killer has been scrutinized more than Jack the Ripper. It is thought that he was responsible for 5 brutal murders of prostitutes.

For more than 120 years, the identity of the infamous Whitechapel murderer has remained unknown. Now, astonishing new evidence revealed after decades of meticulous research, by retired UK police detective Trevor Marriot claims to have finally discovered the killer’s true identity – a German merchant sailor.

Teaming up with criminal psychologist Thomas Muller and a team of international experts, Marriott applies modern detective techniques to this century-old crime in an attempt to solve the apparently unsolvable case, and what he uncovers is truly remarkable. On a trail that takes him through Europe and into New York’s Lower East Side, Marriott claims not only to have uncovered the identity of the Ripper but also the nature of his own grisly end. Could Britain’s most notorious serial killer also have been responsible for a spate of similar murders across the pond?

The programme is good, but it is hard to believe that any human being could be capable of such crimes. I learned more about Jack the Ripper than from anything else I have watched. I highly recommend it. Just don’t watch it alone.

JACK THE RIPPER: THE GERMAN SUSPECT, NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC CHANNEL MONDAY 3RD JANUARY AT 9PM.

The X Factor: The aftermath.

The X Factor proved as tense as ever on Sunday, The two acts who received the fewest votes and had to sing for survival were Katie Waissel and Treyc Cohen.

All ten acts opened the show with a performance of So What by Pink.

Shayne Ward (winner of The X Factor 2005) took to the stage to perform his new single, Gotta Be Somebody and Kylie Minogue performed Better Than Today.

The two acts with the lowest public vote and singing for survival this week were Treyc Cohen and Katie Waissel. When asked how she felt, Katie said: “I’m nervous and it’s Treyc…we’re all in this together I’m going to sing from my heart.” Treyc added: “I’ve been here before but I’m here to sing and I’m just going to do the best that I can.”

Katie sang Please Don’t Give Up On Me whilst Treyc sang Unbreak My Heart (Toni Braxton).

Simon: ‘Here’s the dilemma – Treyc you are the better singer, Katie you are the more interesting performer. I’m going to base this on as a viewer who I’d like to see next week. The person Im going to send home is Treyc.’

Cheryl: ‘I just want to say to both of you, you’re both very talented women. Thank you for being so gracious and strong up there. But Im refusing point blank to send anyone home.’

Dannii: ‘Firstly if I could just say these girls are brilliant singers and I know Ive given a lot of comments but I hope they’ve been constructive and there’s no cause to boo anyone on this stage. You both sing better under pressure, The person Im sending home tonight is Katie.’

Louis: ‘I’ve got to know both girls really well and I love both of them..its so, so difficult. I don’t know whether to go with my head or my heart. My head says save Treyc my heart says, save Katie. It’s really, really difficult, Simon. I’m going to go with my heart, I’m sending home Treyc.’

Treyc said: ‘I’ve had the best time I’ve met some great people. I’ve made some good lifelong friends. I’m so, so grateful. I want to thank everyone from the researchers to the people in the canteen. Thank you.’

This meant Treyc Cohen became the seventh act to leave The X Factor.

On The Xtra Factor, ITV2, Katie commented: “Treyc should be here. I just really want to be here, in this competition. I really thought I was going home. Its not my time. I want to continue I want to show everyone that I am me.”

Dannii Minogue was wearing Dolce & Gabanna dress, Cheryl Cole wore a BodyAmr.

Performing next week on The X Factor – Westlife, JLS and Take That.

Be upstanding for The President of the United States…Jon Stewart reels in the big fish.

I can hardly contain my excitement…I love Jon Stewart, I love the Daily Show and I think Barack Obama is one cool dude. It’s like Christmas has came early as now…

Please be upstanding for the President of The United States of America…. Barack Obama…. Jon Stewart’s guest on The Daily Show. Tonight at 8.30pm on More4.

Mr Obama was making his first appearance as President on Jon Stewart’s satirical The Daily Show – in a studio that was transported to Washington DC, along with the audience.

For Mr Stewart, a chance to show his slightly more serious side – as he quizzed the President on his record.

“You ran on very high rhetoric, hope and change, and the Democrats this year seem to be running on, ‘Please baby, one more chance’,” he quipped – as Obama defended his policies on health care and financial regulation.

“When we promised during the campaign ‘change you can believe in’…it was ‘change you can believe in – but we’re going to have to work for it.” Barack Obama

There is a preview of the two heavyweights going at it below.

Obama had to defend his policy and record so far as Stewart slammed him hard. All is not looking too rosy for the President, In fact the latest poll for the New York Times has some far more worrying news for the Democrats: it’s not just young people who are disillusioned, but other key elements of the coalition which swept Obama to power are actively switching to the Republicans.

According to the survey – the GOP has managed to wipe out the Democratic advantage among women, Catholics, the less affluent and independent voters. Not only that, but the Republicans are now far and away the party most trusted to handle the budget deficit, while President Obama’s own approval ratings still languish at around 43 per cent.

Last night, in a conference call with volunteers from “Organising for America” – tasked with trying to get out the vote for Democrats in these last few crucial days – Obama told them: “We’ve got to run through the tape. We can’t just run half a race: we’ve got to keep on going.”

The White House has just six days left to persuade its erstwhile supporters there’s still some hope left, and still some change to come.

The Event. Fridays at 9pm on Channel 4. {TV Review}

I am one of those people who thought that the plot of lost got, well, lost. This doesn’t mean I haven’t had a a yearning for a good thrilling drama. I have been pining the end of The West Wing for a while now. This is why I want to tell everyone about The Event. It’s a sci-fi thriller, it’s poltical, it’s drama. It’s a whole lot of good TV rolled into one.

A new high-octane US thriller starring Jason Ritter as a man whose investigation in to the mysterious disappearance of his fiancée unwittingly exposes the biggest cover-up in American history…Only, unlike Lost, you can actually know what is going on. There’s aliens and a boyfriend trying to find the women he was about to propose to.

It has been a while since I found something to get excited about but I won’t be missing an episode of this.

There is a taster below.
