We are a huge fan of Avlaki olive oil and were delighted when they sent a beautiful gift box for us to review. Their olive oil is first-class, truly brilliant stuff: Avlaki have created a festive gift pack featuring two of their extra special finishing oils – one of which won a gold one star in Great Taste 2014 and 2013. It is the ultimate gift for lovers of fine foods and those who enjoy exploring new tastes and flavours. It is also the perfect treat for those who would like to add a touch of gourmet glamour to their festive feasts.

Avlaki’s finishing oils are completely different. They are made from olives grown at varying altitudes on Lesvos Island in Greece, under the watchful eye of producers Deborah MacMillan, an artist, and broadcaster Natalie Wheen. They are handpicked in December, milled and bottled as soon as possible to capture the explosion of flavours from the olives in the bottle – and all to the highest British quality standards.

My Little Day has a great range of decorations for children’s parties that are also stylish and festive enough for Christmas. Their napkins, straws and glittery decorations are all beautiful and first class. Highly recommended for adding a bit of class to Christmas.

Popcorn Kitchen

popcornkitchen

Popcorn Kitchen refer to their popcorn on their website in caps locks as “THE BEST POPCORN YOU WILL EVER TASTE, HANDMADE USING TRADITIONAL METHODS”. We like confidence here at Frost and we also love popcorn so we thought we might be on to a winner. Turns out we were right. The popcorn is hand-popped in a giant kettle and then they hand-sift it to remove unpopped kernels and then taste every batch to make sure it’s perfect. It works and is tasty, moreish stuff. Perfect for watching endless Christmas TV with.

Affordable And Amazing Wedding Cakes | The Wedding Diary

The craziness of the wedding industry really shows up in the price of wedding cakes. When my fiancé and I first started looking, we couldn’t find one for less than £350, and most of them weren’t even nice. If you take away the fact they have the word ‘wedding’ in front of them, would anyone actually pay thousands of pounds for a cake? I think not.

In saying that, there are a lot out there with the craftsmanship and design that makes the price worthwhile. If you want great design at a good price then I recommend going the supermarket route. My fiancé and I got our wedding cake from Waitrose.com. Marks And Spencers also do great, affordable wedding cakes.

Here are some beautiful wedding cakes from Waitrose.com

Fiona Cairns Ivory Rose Petal 3-tier Wedding Cake (mixed filling)

fionacairnweddingcakeFiona Cairn is the Royal wedding cake maker. So if she is good enough for Kate and William….

Fiona Cairns Vintage Fairytale 3-tier Wedding Cake (Sponge)

waitroseweddingcakeChocolate Wedding Cake – Gold – 3 Tier

chocolateweddingcakeIf chocolate is your thing and you don’t want a traditional cake.

And (drum roll) here is our wedding cake. It matches our wedding colours of pale pink, pale green and white. We love it and got it in a mixed filling of vanilla sponge and fruit cake.

wedding cakeWhen buying a wedding cake make sure you check how many people it serves. The website should tell you or ask your baker. Another thing to check is if decoration is included. Some cakes look amazing but the small print says that the decoration is not included. This is also an easier way to get a cheaper cake, if you decorate it yourself, it costs less. Although there is the added stress.

While researching wedding cakes I saw a lot of gorgeous wedding cake toppers on ebay and ribbon is very cheap to buy from a haberdashery. You could also make your own or get a relative to make one. Although I would not do this if you weren’t brilliant at baking. Waitrose.com also have some guides on decorating your wedding cake and the BBC also have a great blog on making your own wedding cake.

Good luck and let us know about your wedding cake choices.

5 Inexpensive Ways To Brighten Up Your Home

Home is where the heart is, a safe haven from the world and a place to call your own. So here are some tips to add your personal touch.

brighten up the home, 5 ways to brighten up the home, home decor, home decoration, DIY

Shades of Blue, Paul Smith LA, Painting, John Tierney,,United Kingdom

Decoration

Renting? Can’t paint or redecorate? Well I have the answer: decorations! You don’t even have to spend too much money. A bright lamp, a bookshelf, some heirlooms or even just a rug can personalise a house and make it look like a home.

If you own your home you can buy as much as you want, space permitting. But this is supposed to be an article on inexpensive ways to do up your home so why am I saying buy lots? Well, read below. You can get a beautiful piece of furniture for the price of a trip to the cinema.

Charity shops

Charity shops are treasure troves. While you might not want to wear second-hand clothes, second-hand furniture is a different matter. There is a Trinity Hospice quite near my flat and the furniture in there is of good quality and very reasonably priced. You can get a recently upholstered pre-war chair for £25. Modern chairs cost quadruple that and are not as good quality.

Art

While some art is incredibly expensive you can still get an art print for sale at Saatchi for a reasonable price.

Another favourite is Spineless Classics. Spineless Classics are art that you can read: entire books on one page along with an illustration of the book. Clever and stunning. I love them.

Spineless classics, the great gatsby, art, books, style

Paint

A lick of paint makes all the different. Different colours affect our moods. Some blue colours can make you feel, well, blue, but it is hard to be depressed around sunshine yellow. If you don’t want to paint an entire room then just do one wall or even just a fireplace.

Bedding

New bedding always makes life better and immediately brightens up the bedroom. Get some sheets in a bright colour or throw some colourful cushions on. You will be surprised how much some bright colours here and there add to a room. If you are renting and everything is white, add some colour with beautiful, bright bedding.

There you go. Some tips for your home. What home ideas do you have?
