When Dolce & Gabbana does Easter Cakes…

Try the Easter egg alternative from Italy’s legendary luxury fashion brand. Available from www.souschef.co.uk

The colomba cake (colomba di pasqua) is Easter’s answer to a Christmas panettone! This light, buttery cake is made using natural sourdough fermentation methods, slowly proving over 72 hours to produce a fragrant enriched dough.

Sicilian makers Fiasconaro are renowned for their Christmas panettone collaborations with Dolce & Gabbana, and for the first time last year, the Dolce & Gabbana Easter colomba cake was unveiled on the catwalk of designer confections. Now, this unique and highly sought after version of a classic is back for 2022.

The stunning blue and white tins (oh so giftable!) are designed by Sicilian artists, and inspired by the traditional majolica pottery of the island.

The first colomba is flavoured with candied orange peel, orange purée and an aromatic, aged Marsala wine. The dough is studded with Sicilian almonds and crunchy sugar crystals. Each cake is shaped like a dove, to symbolise peace at Easter time (columba di pasqua translates literally as ‘Easter dove’).

This slow-proved sourdough colomba cake is studded with chocolate and swirled with wild strawberry jam. Once you’ve cut a slice of colomba, simply spread with rich, silky Sicilian chocolate spread. A real Easter indulgence.

Our Top Pick is Perfect For Easter: Delicario Sweet Easter Hamper

best easter hamperThere was much excitement when the Delicario Sweet Easter Hamper arrived at our home. ‘What is that?’ the children endlessly enquired. The husband asked when we would break into it. Well, it was not that long after it arrived, no one has that amount of willpower.

The hamper includes hand-crafted mini eggs (which are the best I have ever tasted) and a Madagascar dark chocolate egg for connoisseurs from Italian artisan chocolatier Autore (which is out of this world). Delicious melt-in-the-mouth sourdough Pear and Chocolate Bauletto cake (one of the best cakes I have ever tasted, just glorious), fragrant lemon biscuit and crunchy rich dark chocolate and hazelnut Goloso biscuits (both gone quickly). It sells for £79.50 and is worth every penny.

I love Easter and this hamper gives instant joy. I cannot recommend it enough.

There is a greeting card and personal message included. The hamper itself and the greetings card are elegant and beautiful.

Top of the Pop-Ups this Easter at the Perrier-Jouët Modern Mayfair Garden

Spring has sprung and what better way to celebrate than with a glass of fizz in an idyllic garden setting. Let’s toast this Easter at La Caprice, Mayfair and be sure to enjoy your lunch before or after perusing The Royal Academy of Arts’ latest landmark exhibition. Painting the Modern Garden: Monet to Matisse, sees Claude Monet’s water lily paintings brought to the UK for the very first time. We think this is the perfect opportunity for you to immerse yourself into spring whilst enjoying some remarkable art, food and also some lovely goodies to take away.

Paul Winch-Furness / Photographer

Priced at £38 per person, this includes a glass of Perrier-Jouët Champagne, two-course lunch at Le Caprice, tickets to ‘Painting the Modern Garden’ exhibition, a Floris London gift bag with Rose Hand Cream and Jermyn Street fragrance sample.

Playmobil creates another winner by Margaret Graham

At Frost we love Playmobil’s products. The company  seem to have a great understanding of what children want.

At Christmas we gave their long-lasting ‘alternatives to chocolate’ advent calenders. The children are still playing with the characters, happily creating worlds of their own.

We at Frost are really pleased then, to see the new Playmobil Gift Eggs for Easter 2016

This year there are four new themes:

Our personal favourite is the Zookeeper and his alpaca.

PLAYMOBIL_4944_Zookeeper with Alpaca_Easter Egg.jp

Partly because one of us lived near an alpaca farm and the farmer would walk them along the cliff path as he took his family for picnics. Gorgeous.

PLAYMOBIL_4944_Zookeeper with Alpaca

One of these eggs will find their way into the lives of our little ‘uns  this Easter. Such a lovely time of year, and these eggs will go on giving pleasure until the figures can be added to next year.

All eggs @ £6.99 each.
