The Improve Rooms | Events

Ever felt that what you need in your life is a little burst of inspiration from an expert? Step in The Improve Rooms at Fitzroy Square. This was a one day event that I am hoping comes back permanently.

I went along with my friend Holly and the first thing we did was grab some cocktails. We then go and watch expert nutritionist Madeleine Shaw make zucchini noodles to go with a delicious salad. Being healthy never tasted so amazing. Madeleine is incredibly knowledgeable and makes healthy living fun.

We had an amazing chat with fashion stylist Grace Woodward, who you might recognise from Britain and Ireland’s Next Top Model. Grace is heavily pregnant but has dressed so smart I didn’t even notice. She looks brilliant in black with a white cardigan, heels(!), great jewellery and stunning eye make up.

Grace talks about sitting next to Elle MacPherson during Next Top Model, “I felt huge”, how she loves what Kate Middleton wears but how she always gets the shoes wrong, “Those wedges when she came out of the hospital…”, we talked about publishing, how much it has changed and the shift away from print and she also talked about how she put the concept of her Improve Room together; “Summer is over in fashion, it’s done, we are already in Autumn”. Grace, Holly and I had a really good natter while cocktails and canapes are brought to us. You really can’t ask for more than that.

improve rooms, the improve rooms, sure improve rooms, sure, grace woodward, kate middleton, johny pitts,

We move on to photographer Johny Pits and we talk about selfies as Holly is writing an article on them. Johny is very articulate and gives good debate. We learn a lot about photography and also talk about portfolio careers.

We also talk about the Sure deodorant. The compressed cans have as much in them as bigger cans only they are smaller bottles. Got that? They come in new scents; cotton, clear aqua and bright. I have some in my goody bag which should last me a while.

I had a great time at the Improve Rooms. Here’s hoping they do more.

Argan 5 + Softening Body Polish Review

I love exfoliating. Nothing else really makes your skin as super soft. Apparently Elle MacPherson exfoliates every single day, morning and night. Mostly with a soft exfoliator but also with a harder one for a few days. If anyone has seen how amazing the 49-year-old supermodel looks in a bikini they will see that exfoliating is an important part of any beauty regime. Elle says, “It’s the only way to keep skin soft, smooth and glowing,”

So what did I think of Argan 5 + Softening Body Polish? Well, it is possibly my favourite exfoliator ever. It has the perfect ‘grit’. It is hard enough to do the job but does not damage or tear the skin. It has one of the biggest beauty ingredients of the moment: argan oil. It leaves my skin so soft I can forgo moisturiser. A little amount goes a long way so the tube lasts. It also smells great and leaves skin glowing. What more could you ask for?

Would I buy it? Yes, in bulk.

What they say: crushed olive stones and pumice combined with the unique Argan+ Synergy help remove dead skin cells to restore healthy skin radiance and softness. Skin is left refreshed, reinvigorated and glowing with radiance.

Argan oil, sometimes known as ‘liquid gold’ due to its’ amazing transformational properties, is a prized ingredient in skincare. It has been used for centuries by the Berber tribe in Morocco and is highly valued by skin specialists. Rich in omega fatty acids and antioxidants, Argan oil helps to protect the skin’s oil barrier, shield against free radicals, improve elasticity and protect against skin ageing.

Argan + Synergy

Argan + Synergy is an all-natural 100% blend of precious Moroccan Argan oil with 4 other amazing oils: Baobab, Kukui, Moringa and Sacha Inci, all selected for their restorative, regenerating and nourishing properties.

Glenn Mulcaire May Have Hacked For Other Papers.

Glenn Mulcaire’s notebooks have been making waves today as the phone hacking inquiry rumbles on. Twenty-eight News International employees are named in a notebook. The notebook also has a references to The Sun and Daily Mirror, which suggest that phone hacking may have happened at other papers.

Robert Jay QC, counsel to the inquiry, said that senior executives had either condoned hacking or did not do the proper checks. In either case there was ‘room for a Nelsonian blind eye’ towards the ‘thriving cottage industry’.

Some of the notes that corresponded to News of the World employees reveals that they made 1,453 separate requests for information from Mulcaire.

The private detective also wrote ‘The Sun’ and a name relating to the Daily Mirror in his notebooks.

Mulcaire was imprisoned with the News of the World’s former royal editor Clive Goodman in January 2007 after they admitted intercepting voicemail messages left on phones belonging to members of the royal family.

The inquiry heard that the investigator’s notes relating to the royal aides are marked ‘Clive’, ‘private’ and with the name of ‘A’, who cannot be named for fear of prejudicing the ongoing police investigation into phone hacking.

Robert Jay QC said: ‘One possible inference to be drawn is that ”A” was working with or for Goodman, and he or she may have instructed Mulcaire to carry out an interception.

‘It might be argued that ”A” could have been acting independently of Goodman, but that would not make much sense since Goodman was the royal editor.’

Mr Jay added: ‘Either News International senior management knew what was going on at the time and therefore, at the very least, condoned this illegal activity.

‘Or they didn’t and News International’s systems failed to the extent that there was failure in supervision, failure of oversight with possible failures of training and corporate ethos and checking of expenses claims.

‘And there’s room for a Nelsonian blind eye. In either version, we have clear evidence of a generic, systematic or cultural problem.

He added: ‘I suggest that it would not be unfair to comment that it was at the very least a thriving cottage industry.’

Mulcaire also hacked the phones of publicist Max Clifford, football agent Sky Andrew, chairman of the Professional Footballers Association Gordon Taylor, MP Simon Hughes and supermodel Elle Macpherson.

In total about 28 legible corner names are legible in the 11,000 pages of notes that police seized from Mulcaire, which relate to a total of 2,266 taskings and the names of 5,795 potential victims, the inquiry heard.

Lord Justice Leveson this morning opened the inquiry into media standards that was set up after the News of the World phone hacking scandal.

He is examining the ‘culture, practices and ethics of the press’.

The Court of Appeal judge was watched by Bob Dowler, the father of murdered schoolgirl Milly Dowler. Her phone was hacked by the News of the World.

Elle Macpherson loves Victoria Beckham's 'timeless' designs

Elle Macpherson loves Victoria Beckham’s fashion line because the clothes embody the way she likes to dress.

The supermodel is hugely impressed with how the former Spice Girl has reinvented herself as a respected fashion designer and says Victoria’s simple, elegant designs are “beautiful” and “timeless”.

She explained: “I think Victoria is one of the smartest businesswomen around. She has really taken that brand and followed her dreams when people said that she couldn’t do it and that’s what I really love about her.

“She’s always been fascinated and passionate about fashion and she found the best people she could to make dresses that fit like a glove.

“They’re really beautiful, they’re timeless and they come to the knee. For me, they make the body look amazing and they’re very simple. They really embody the way that I like to dress and she has really tapped into it and does it better than anybody.”

However, Elle admitted she tries not to wear to same dresses as Victoria because she believes she will never look as good.

She explained to Scotland’s Daily Record: “Unfortunately when you see her in a dress and then you in a dress, you think, ‘Oh gosh, better not pick that one!'”

Nicole Richie to judge Fashion Star

Nicole Richie is set to get a judging role on ‘Fashion Star’.

The 29-year-old star – who owns clothing and accessories brands Winter Kate and House of Harlow – will join model Elle Macpherson and singer-turned-designer Jessica Simpson on the TV show, which sees aspiring designers compete for a contract to have their prodcuts sold in retailers in the US.

The programme does not yet have an air date.

Just days ago, Nicole – who has children Harlow, three and 22-month-old Sparrow with rocker husband Joel Madden – announced she would be expanding her fashion range, with a new collection of handbags as part of her House of Harlow 1960 line.

Discussing her own design credentials, Nicole revealed she only ever created clothes she would want to wear herself.

She said: “My main goal for this particular collection – and for all the footwear that I design – is I want the shoes to look great but be comfortable at the same time.

“I’m a girl and I love shoes. Who doesn’t want to make exactly what you want?”

Spotted! Elle MacPherson

Host of Britain’s Next Top Model, Elle Macpherson, was spotted in stylish Chelsea Brasserie, The Ebury on Pimlico road, dining on a goat’s cheese salad with friends. The restaurant is known for its fashionable crowd, which might have been why Ms Macpherson, who is on the look out for contestants in the newest series of her show, paid a visit.
