US Remembers 9/11

In New York, Washington and Pennsylvania, thousands of Americans have gathered to pay their respects to the nearly 3,000 people killed eleven years ago on the September 11th Al-Qaida terrorist attacks.
President Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle, joined other dignitaries at the White House and bowed their heads in a moment of silence at 8:46 a.m. EDT, the time on September 11, 2001 which is when the first of two jetliners struck the World Trade Center in New York.

Afterward the president led a ceremony at the Pentagon memorial, which was struck by a plane during the attacks. The Pentagon is the headquarters of the U.S. military.

The President stood in front of an American flag and told the families of the victims that their loved ones would never be forgotten.

Families of those killed on 9/11 took part in a ritual reading of all of the victim’s names at Ground Zero, where the World Trade center towers that fell after being struck by planes. Some of the bereaved held up photos of their loved ones.

U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said: “My concern is that too often, we do not express our concern and our attention for those that are fighting and dying for this country. We’re continuing to lose good men and women in battle in Afghanistan. They are putting their lives on the line every day. And, every day, they are fighting to make sure that this country is protected. We cannot forget that sacrifice.”

My 9-11: One Man’s Journey Through the Unexpected Events of September 11, 2001′ Launches With a Book, Gallery Show & Soundtrack

Multi-Media Art Retrospective to Commemorate the 10th Anniversary of the September 11th Attacks Will Also Raise Healthcare Funds for First Responders and Families

Music and celebrity portrait photographer and author, Richard Agudelo, presents, My 9-11: One Man’s Journey Through the Unexpected Events of September 11, 2001. This multi-media arts retrospective includes a book that contains never before published images from Ground Zero, captured moments after the attacks. These powerful images will be presented in a photography exhibit at NYC’s new Charles West Gallery. In addition to the book and gallery show, 13 diverse musicians have contributed original works to the My 9-11 Project soundtrack. All net proceeds from the My 9-11 Project efforts will be donated to first responder charities including the FealGood Foundation

The beautifully crafted book presents 144 pages, containing 40 images that include 23 never before published pictures that were taken 20 minutes after One World Trade Center collapsed. The photographs are accompanied by a vividly detailed 11,000 word narrative that gives a glimpse of the chaos and heroism at Ground Zero immediately following the towers downfall. Contributors to the book include 9-11 first responder advocate, John Feal of the FealGood Foundation and World Trade Center Health Organization’s leading expert, Dr. Jacqueline Moline. All the names of victims lost on 9-11 are also included in a commemorative section.

“My 9-11 Project began to take shape after I returned from an annual check-up at the World Trade Center Health Organization,” explains author, photographer and founder of My 9-11 Project, Richard Agudelo. “I saw the suffering of many first responders and over the years have witnessed the untimely deaths of too many of these heroes,” Agudelo adds, “My 9-11 Project not only aims to raise funds to help prevent more of these deaths, but also helps to provide a larger platform to bring light and conversation to this unfortunate circumstance.” Agudelo further states, “We not only need to honor and applaud these heroes, we need to take care of them, just as they did for us.”

My 9-11: One Man’s Journey Through the Unexpected Events of September 11, 2001 has been brought to light by efforts and funding from Barry Leistner and Koenig Iron Works, Inc. in New York City. “When I met Ric Agudelo, he was looking for a gallery space to show a project he was working on to commemorate September 11th,” explains Barry Leistner, president of Koenig Iron Works. “Once I started to hear the details of this amazing project, suddenly I knew exactly how I was going to honor the friends and loved ones lost on 9-11,” further explains Leistner, “I was not only going to get Ric a space to launch the My 9-11 Project, I asked to personally help and became Co-founder and Producer of the multi-media project.”

My 9-11 Project is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that provides monetary assistance to various organizations that push to alleviate the financial burdens of the September 11th first responders who suffer from health ailments due to the time spent at Ground Zero. This Month's Magazines; Jennifer Lopez Believes in Love, 9/11 Anniversary.

Note: Magazines come out a month in advance. September’s magazines are Augusts.

The September issue of Vogue is out and the advertisers have made the issue heavy enough to use as a dumbbell. No complaints from me.

It is the International Collections special and there are lots of clothes to fawn over, Labels and trends to be urban cool, and accessories that make a difference in Vogue’s Big Fashion Issue.

There is a brilliant article on the history of Gucci, Paloma Picasso revisits Venice and talks about her journey to becoming a jewellery designer, Dries Van Noten gives a guide to his Antwerp, up-coming actress, producer and writer Brit Marling is interviewed (Frost loves her), Rifat Ozbek is doing Robin Birley’s new club, Ruperts; Good two page article.

Olivia Wilde talks Haiti and Childhood, there are a lot of autumn clothes that all look too hot, it’s 30c in London at the moment!, Miss V has her excellent social diary, there is a 9 page spread on the turbulent life of John Galliano, Tom Ford on his new cosmetic line and an article on the new David Bailey film. I noticed afterward that in the shops you get a free fashion DVD. However, I did not get this as a subscriber. Bad form.

Emily Mortimer is on the cover of this month’s Tatler and there is an interview inside.

Frost has been complain that Marie Claire has not been giving its subscribers free gifts because of ‘cost’, and this month’s issue came with a free gift. It would seem someone listened but, alas, no. In the shops you get a free nail polish and a conditioner. I just got a conditioner.

Anne Hathaway is on the cover and interviewed inside. L’Wren Scott gives us the low-down on her stuff, in Fairground there is a lot of lovely picture of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge in Hollywood attending the BAFTA party.

Les Hinton and Rebekah Brooks Resign. Murdoch Latest

Following on from the last article Frost did on the phone hacking scandal, Rebekah Brooks has finally resigned after Elisabeth Murdoch, daughter of the press baron, launched a rant that Brooks had ‘fucked the company’. Les Hinton, who has been at News Corporation for over 50 years has also resigned saying that he ‘had no other choice’. Apparently, Brooks had offered her resignation a week ago.

 

Rupert Murdoch has taken out a full page advert in the national press to say apologise despite saying previously that ‘we only made minor mistakes.’ The FBI have launched an investigation into the claims that the phones of 9/11 victims were hacked.

 

Carl Bernstein, the former Washington Post reporter who exposed Watergate and helped depose a US president, says it is evident that the events of the past week “are the beginning, not the end, of the seismic event”.

 

News Corporation has hired Edelman, a global communications company to manage the crisis on both sides of the Atlantic and it looks like James Murdoch being the heir apparent it now a pipe dream.

 

UK parliamentary hearing start next week and the future is looking grim for Murdoch, he personally met the family of Milly Dowler to apologise to them, but the damage has all been done. It will interesting to see what happens next. It is ironic to see the hounder hounded, a lot of the photographers taking pictures of Murdoch, actually work for him. Tom Mockridge has been appointed to run News International. Will Chase Carey be heading up global corporation soon.

 

This Month's Magazines: Pippa Middleton and Gwyneth Paltrow Cover Girls/ Updated

Here is the second in my monthly round-up, for July 2011.

Tatler has joined Pippa Middleton’s fan club and put her on the cover, the article on her inside weighs up her possible future husbands, and has a very good article on her and lots of pictures. It also let’s you know that Pippa does pilates at Pilates on the Go in Parson’s Green, and has a testimonial on their website.

Tatler also give the low-down on the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s inner circle, who’s in and who’s out. Athina Onassis also has an article on her and multibillion-pound colossus Glencore has a four page article on them. Nathaniel Rothschild is one of their investors.

Tory Burch talks about what inspires her, Claudia Winklemann writes about her hatred of summer, Orlando had advice for your gap yah, Annabel Rivkin slams Made In Chelsea for making posh people look bad, and for not being posh at all.

One of the best article is their annual 100 most invited; The Middleton’s top the list, Natalie Massenet, Colin Firth, Nat Rothschild, Michael McIntyre, Dasha Zhukova and Liz Murdoch all make the list.

Vanity Fair: Emma Stone is on the cover and talks about wanting to be a ‘covered up’ actress, but is on the cover in a bikini. Stone comes across well in the interview and states that she doesn’t want to make a career out of mere sex appeal. Ted Danson goes out to lunch, James Wolcott on Dominique Strauss-Kahn, There is a long form article on Groupon, one of the biggest growing business in history which will soon be worth $20 Billion.

There is an article to mark the 10th anniversary of 9/11, there is also a very good article on Prince Andrew and his many troubles, but does let you know that he is The Queen’s favorite child, Elephants – which are sadly being hunted in their tens of thousands per year, and Catch 22 writer Joseph Heller. Jerry Lewis does the Proust Questionnaire.

Vanity Fair Jewellery has a supplement with a naked Gwyneth Paltrow on the cover. It has lots of good articles on the history of Gold, The Windsor’s crown jewels, Daphne Guinness and a calender with Paltrow, Thandie Newton, Natalia Vodianova, Olivia Inge, Olivia Palermo, Uma Thurman and Poppy Delevigne.

Marie Claire has Audrey Tautou on the cover, the shy actress manages to give nothing away in the subsequent interview. George Clooney talks about his activism in South Sudan, there are wedding night confessions, a good article on women who earn money from blogging, a piece on the rise of Posh as Toff mania grips Britain.

There are QR codes abound in Marie Claire, exciting if you have a smart phone,

There is lots of fashion of course, it lets you nail your festival look, there is an article on couples who fight over wardrobe space, an article on love addiction and JK Rowling’s life story. Harry Potter star Bonnie Wright also gives an insight into her world and Megan Fox gives her beauty secrets.

There is a free gift of lip gloss, but not if you are a subscriber. Bad form.

Vogue has Kate Moss AKA Mrs Jamie Hince on the cover and in a forties fashion spread inside, though nothing on her wedding (American Vogue have been given the rights) Emma Stone, Jessica Chastain and Lily Collins.

Jemima Khan writes about conquering her fear of flying to save a long distance relationship. Jemima is a very good writer. Miss V is as brilliant as ever, with lots of parties and pictures,

Of course there is lots of fashion and the forties look is in. Christopher Bailey talks about 10 years at Burberry and Mustique is the holiday destination of the year.

The girls of Downtown Abbey are in vogue and in couture, complete with interviews. There is also a tan special and Christa D’Souza on the quest of a perfect ponytail. Gemma Atterton gives her Style File and talks about how hard it is to find cloths to fit her curvy frame.

There is also a free supplement of the Runaway round-up for Autumn/Winter 2011.

Glamour has Jessie J is on the cover and there is a free Personal Horoscope book.

There is a very good article inside where Jessie talks about her sexuality, her stroke and drugs and alcohol which you can read more about on Frost.

This issue also had Glamour’s Women Of the Year Awards, their prestigious annual event, with news and gossip from the night. A running gag about sleeping with Davina McCall’s husband is funnier than it sounds. There is also 30,000 sex secrets and how to become red carpet glamorous, as well as an interview with the Inbetweener’s boys. Celia Walden interviews Rupert Grint and the stars spill their festival secrets.

Ten Years After 9/11, Widespread Concerns About Terrorist Attacks on Airports, Mass Transit and Public Gatherings Persist, According to Unisys Research

Overall security concerns at highest levels in many countries, with financial and personal security concerns top of mind

Nearly ten years after 9/11, a majority of citizens surveyed in the U.S., Europe and Latin America report that they are “extremely” or “very” concerned about malicious or terrorist attacks on airports, airplanes, railroads, buses, subways or large gatherings of people at office buildings, sporting events or other locations, according to new research conducted by Unisys Corporation (NYSE: UIS).

The findings are part of the bi-annual Unisys Security Index, conducted in February, which surveyed more than 11,500 people in 12 countries for consumer opinion on four areas of security: financial, national, Internet and personal safety.

“We’ve made significant progress in bolstering security in the decade since the attacks of 9/11, but we still have more work to do to increase the speed with which we adopt and implement technology solutions to secure our air cargo, rail transportation and other critical infrastructure systems as attacks become more sophisticated,” said Steve Vinsik, vice president, enterprise security, Unisys. “However, recent events such as the Yemeni cargo bomb as well as highly publicized attempted terror attacks in public spaces have raised awareness of security vulnerabilities in countries around the world. Governments and businesses worldwide must work together to address ways to protect our supply chains, public spaces and transportation infrastructures.”

When asked about their level of concern about locations they believe are vulnerable to attacks, well over half of respondents in nine of the 11 countries in which that question was asked said airports and airplanes are highly vulnerable.

In general, Europeans surveyed were most concerned, with the highest percentages of those seriously concerned residing in Germany (79 percent), the UK (74 percent) and Belgium (74 percent). High levels of concern were also reported in Mexico (70 percent), Brazil (69 percent) and the Netherlands (67 percent). In the United States, 59 percent of those surveyed said they were seriously concerned.

New Zealand and Australian citizens were the least concerned about attacks on airports and airplanes, at 42 and 48 percent respectively.

Similarly, more than half of respondents in all countries except Australia and New Zealand expressed serious concern about attacks on mass transit locations such as railroads, buses and subways. And in seven of the 11 countries where the question was asked, at least half of respondents said they believe cargo is also vulnerable to attacks.

General increase in concern worldwide

Overall, the latest results of the Unisys Security Index survey found that citizens around the world are significantly more concerned about nearly all aspects of their security compared to six months ago.

Results showed that financial concerns were top of mind in many countries, with bankcard fraud as the top concern worldwide and concern about the ability to meet financial obligations jumping significantly, especially in the United Kingdom, United States and New Zealand. Concern over national security also climbed in nearly all of the countries where financial security concern rose.

On a level from zero to 300, the overall global Unisys Security Index score jumped more than 17 percent in six months, from 125 to 147, to the highest levels since the survey began in 2007. While nearly all countries reported increases in overall concern, countries such as the United States and the United Kingdom reported their highest levels of concern ever.

Measures of financial and personal security rose to a serious level of concern for the first time. The financial security index moved to 159, the highest level yet, with bankcard fraud identified as the top financial concern in every country. Similarly, the personal security index rose to an all time high of 151, with identify theft the second highest overall concern in every country except Mexico.

Lieberman Research Group conducted the survey in Latin America, Europe and the U.S.; Newspoll conducted the research in Asia-Pacific. The Unisys Security Index surveys more than 11,500 people in 12 countries: Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Colombia, Germany, Hong Kong, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Spain, the United Kingdom and the United States. Osama Bin Laden son in 'Moral High ground' Shocker

The son of Osama Bin Laden has released a statement say the killing of his Al Qaeda father was ‘criminal’ and that he reserves the right to sue the U.S government. The statement made by Omar Bin Laden did not however mention whether he also felt the victims of 9/11 should be able to sue his father’s estate for the murder of their relatives.

Omar is Bin Laden’s fourth eldest son and also mentioned that the Al Qaeda chiefs other children also are ‘reserving the right to take legal action in the U.S and internationally.’ The statement that was published on the Islamist website Abu Walid al-Masri also stated that his father’s burial was ‘humiliating’ as his father had ‘such importance and status among his people’ ,but, yet again, did not mention that fact that over 3000 bodies of the 9/11 victims will never even be found.

Specialists on militant propaganda had said that the statement appears to be genuine.

Omar Bin Laden, 30, married a British women 25 years older than him and she appeared in a number of celebrity magazines with her young husband beside her. They tried to relocate to the UK but his visa was refused. Omar and his wife Zaina Bin Laden (Previously known as Jane Felix-Browne) are now based in the Gulf. It was announced in April that they are having a surrogate child through IVF, which is being carried by a British Pole Dancer. Their twins were miscarried last year through another surrogate, after which the couple broke up amide claims that Omar was suffering from mental illness. They are now back together even though Omar told the Daily Mail that there was “no chance” of a reconciliation.

The alleged letter from Omar went on to say: ”We hold the American President (Barack) Obama legally responsible to clarify the fate of our father, Osama Bin Laden, for it is unacceptable, humanely and religiously, to dispose of a person with such importance and status among his people, by throwing his body into the sea in that way, which demeans and humiliates his family and his supporters and which challenges religious provisions and feelings of hundreds of millions of Muslims.’
