Gift Ideas For a New Baby

Shopping for a new baby can be a minefield. Never mind that you might accidentally buy the same present as everyone else. To help out we scoured the internet and have came up with our top picks.

An ISA.

Starting, or putting money into, a junior ISA is a great idea which will have little ones set up for the future. It also stops the home of the new parents becoming cluttered. You can get a stocks and shares junior ISA from Chelsea Financial Services which invests in funds. Chelsea currently offer their junior ISA for no charge. All you pay is the fund managers charge which is typically 0.75% a year. The advantage of investing in a fund versus individual shares is that your money is invested by a professional and your investment will be spread over many different shares, so if one does badly it won’t bring down your whole investment. Chelsea have a number of ready made junior ISA portfolios selected by their research team if you don’t want to choose your own funds.

Investing early is extremely important because it allows the magic of compound interest to take hold, what Einstein called the eighth wonder of the world. By investing early a small amount of money can become much larger over time. The Junior ISA has the same advantages as a regular ISA. It has protection from capital gains and doesn’t need to be included on a tax return. The one disadvantage of a junior ISA is it cannot be taken out early and can only be withdrawn by the child after they turn 18. So if you want to save for school fees you would be better off investing in your own ISA.

When we saw the CobWebKnits baby hats we could not help but melt a little. Not only are they so small, they are also just super-cute. They are machine washable soft acrylic yarn that is soft to the touch and won’t irritate baby’s skin. Being machine washable at 40 C they are practical too and dry quickly. These hats are adorable and of the highest quality. I was very impressed by the hat, the quick delivery and the presentation.

Each product is handmade in their Welsh studio where they also make beautiful knitwear and clothing. Every attention is paid to each item which is lovingly handmade with the wearer in mind. My Daddy is a Soldier Calendar

Our hearts nearly melted at Frost when this landed in our inbox. My Daddy is a Soldier Adventures supports the children (Little Troopers) of British Soldiers, both full time and those serving with the Reserves. They aim to build a community where the children and parent at home can support each other, share their experiences and coping mechanisms for long tours. The charity has also developed unique resources such as the Separation pack; which includes monthly charts that the children use to count down until Mummy or Daddy is home again.

We love all of the photos but some of the highlights are:

March features little Joshua Hannon, aged 3 celebrating his Dad’s return home from Afghanistan
April shows Declan Jones 7 years old, and his Dad Sergeant Mike Jones on parade.
June features Reilly James Crowston with his Dad Craftman Michael Crowston. Reilly was just nine days old and luckily Dad was at home for the birth because he was in special care for five days.
The back cover which has 27 shortlisted pictures showing army families from across the globe.

This year the Little Troopers calendar will be A4 and include a useful family planner. The calendars are just £9.99 and can be ordered from the Charity’s website www.mydaddyisasoldieradventures.org. All profits from the calendar will go towards the charity’s work and will help even more Little Troopers next year.

Cat Really Loves Being Vacuumed | Amazing Video

Dog Versus Cat: (Big) Cat Wins

We love cats at Frost and thought this cute video of dogs getting freaked out by a lion cub was super cute.

It has had over 3.5million views since Shaun Swingle uploaded it.

The video apparently comes from Union Pictures which is a training company that trains animals to appear on film. Pretty cool.
