The Springheel Saga – Series 2: The Legend of Springheel’d Jack Review

After the huge success of award-winning The Springheel Saga: The Strange Case Of Springheel’d Jack starring Julian Glover there will be many people waiting for The Springheel Saga – Series 2: The Legend of Springheel’d Jack. In fact The Wireless Theatre Company have built up quite a following, winning awards and working with stars like Julian and Stephen Fry. The Springheel Saga Series 2 is another triumph and if you want to catch up on series one it can be found here.

springheel jack

The Legend of Springheel’d Jack is a three part series which picks up seven years after series One ended. From talented writers Robert Valentine and Jack Bowman, this radio play has high production value, excellent acting and a brilliant and thrilling storyline.

It starts with the murder of thirteen-year-old pickpocket Maria Davis. But was it at the hand of Springheel’d Jack?

Detective Inspector Jonah Smith is still obsessed with Springheel’d Jack. The one he hasn’t caught. Set in Victorian London, it catches the spirit and hard times of Victorian London well; The Legend of Springheel’d Jack is thrilling and it really draws you in. The characters are strong and the storyline is fun, grisly and exciting. It leaves you wanting more. I often find that radio plays are underrated and do not get the audience they deserve and I hope The Legend of Springheel’d Jack finds a very large audience as it certainly deserves it: thoroughly entertaining.

The Legend of Springheel’d Jack : The Terror of London will be released on 9th December 2013.

Nip + Fab Glycolic Fix Serum Review

Nip + Fab Glycolic Fix Serum ReviewIn the years I have been a lifestyle writer I have rarely come across something that actually changes the texture of my skin, and rarer still to see a visible difference in just two days. Nip + Fab Glycolic Fix Serum is this wonder product. My skin had been going through a rough patch when I started using it. I had had a breakout, was ill, red and blotchy. I am in my late twenties and noticed a faint line. I had never been unhappy with my skin so much. The night after I noticed a difference in my skin, by day two I was amazed at the difference, I have been using this for a few weeks now and there is a difference in the texture of my skin. My pores look like their are 16-years-old and my spots have completely cleared up, the line that was developing has been stopped in its tracks. I have sensitive skin and cannot normally use products that promise anti-aging or smaller pores but this serum did not irritate my skin.

This lightweight and refreshing overnight serum doesn’t just do what it says on the bottle, it does much more: product of the year. A must buy and for a product that works so well, and makes such a difference, it is a bargain £14.99.

They also don’t test on animals.

Atomic Floyd AirJax In Ear Acoustics Review

Atomic-Floyd-Airjax-reviewAirJax are made especially for iPhone, iPad and iPod. They can also be used on non-Apple products Skype and Blackberry. They offer amazing audio quality and style. Unbelievable style, they are the Naomi Campbell of in-ear acoustics. Just beautiful.

Just to up the style quote they come with a black leather case which is red suede inside and opens when you apply pressure. They are ‘hand-crafted in metal’, this metal includes acoustic steel, an ultra thin metal, titanium and 24k gold. They are high quality as you would expect, well made and just sigh-worthy.

They come with a microphone and have a button for answering calls. The earphones have removable metal hooks which turns them into fitness earphones, very handy and you do not even notice them as they are so comfortable. The earhooks also come with black sleeves, a flight adapter and mini jack.

Now to the audio: it is just perfect. Everything works in harmony and every genre of music sounds magnificent. The rich, creamy bass is first class. These gorgeous and pretty much perfect earphones, their only negative for some people is that they are not compatible on a PC or ordinary MP3 player, are a must if you have the extra cash for beautiful, high-quality earphones with impeccable sound. Amazing.

How To Keep Calm And Carry On Book Review

Keep calm and carry on bookHow to Keep Calm and Carry On: Inspiring Ways to Worry Less and Live a Happier Life by Professor Daniel Freeman and Jason Freeman is certainly a book for our age. With unemployment on the rise and the the effects of the recession still causing trouble it is no wonder anxiety and stress are on the rise.

The book starts with what anxiety actually is, then it goes into tackling your anxiety and how it can be done. Whilst reading about tackling anxious thoughts and reducing worry I learned a lot, mostly that I worry too much! About everything, even things that will probably never happen. The book also has great tables and exercises to do. A section on coping with nightmares is particularly helpful as I find when I am stressed I usually have bad dreams.

The chapter on relaxing body and mind was informative and interesting. I find that I never switch off and it is just not healthy for me. Some of the tips in this book are incredibly useful and I will be adding them to my life.

The chapter on eating and drinking your way to calmness reminded me to drink less caffeine (no wonder I can’t sleep!) and eat more pasta. All in all, an incredibly knowledgeable and fun book to help you keep calm and carry on. Highly recommended.

~ Worry and anxiety affects millions worldwide. How to Keep Calm and Carry On takes the latest scientific research and tested clinical techniques to show readers how to beat it ~

Britain is on the verge of a stress epidemic. One in five adults worry for at least 60 minutes every day. And more than seven million Brits are believed to have a certifiable anxiety disorder.

Even low-level worry can negatively impact work, home and quality of life. It’s a situation that costs the UK economy over £6.5billion each year.

But as new stress management guide How to Keep Calm and Carry On shows, anxiety need not be an issue in people’s lives any longer.

Calling upon the latest cutting-edge clinical research and proven-to-work techniques, leading British clinical psychologist Professor Daniel Freeman and psychology writer Jason Freeman offer a simple, straightforward roadmap to enjoying a happy and worry-free life.

Throughout the 176-page book, the Freeman brothers — dubbed the UK’s “Worry Tzars” — put the ‘How To’ into the world-famous “Keep Calm” mantra, offering friendly guidance, exercises and

motivating ‘quick wins’ to allow readers to build a realistic and highly-practical programme to keep fears in check and anxieties under control.

Refreshingly and reassuringly, Keep Calm and Carry On is science-based without being technical — something which, ironically, could cause reader anxiety in itself. There’s no jargon or scary psychobabble to be found across its 12 guaranteed stuffiness-free chapters.

Instead, the book — which has just been released by leading educational publisher Pearson —provides an effortlessly accessible manual to feeling more calm, composed and centred.

Speaking about the book, Daniel Freeman — Professor of Clinical Psychology at Oxford University — said: “Our aim is to take the very best psychological research and make it accessible so people can effectively deal with stress and anxiety.”

Whatever life throws at you, the Freeman brothers can show how best to keep calm and carry on.

How to Keep Calm and Carry On: Inspiring Ways to Worry Less and Live a Happier Life by Daniel & Jason Freeman (Pearson) is out now, priced £10.99, from Amazon and all good book shops

In Fear Film Review

In Fair Film ReviewThe backroads and woods of rural Ireland open up to steady and relentless menace in this

psychological horror thriller, the debut feature of writer and director Jeremy Lovering. The basic

setup is familiar and uncomplicated; Lucy and Tom (Alice Englert and Iain De Caestecker), a

young couple in the first weeks of a burgeoning relationship, are travelling to a secluded hotel

for the evening on their way to a music festival. However as night descends and their directions

start to lead them in circles, the two of them become hopelessly lost before realizing that they

may not be alone…

Eschewing a standard format for what seems like very familiar material in the horror genre,

Lovering has taken the bold move of denying his two leads a set script. The actors were provided

with a brief outline of what direction individual scenes would take but were left unaware

of what exactly would occur. Improvisation and surprise are the driving forces here. It’s a

directorial stroke that provides the film with a fresh feel despite the well worn setting. It shows

particularly in the performances of the two leads whose increasing paranoia and discomfort is

entirely convincing. Even before the scares start their portrayal of a burgeoning relationship, all

uncertainty and stubbornness, gives their predicament an incredibly believable air. This is helped

by the increasingly claustrophobic direction as open roads give way to the sweaty, grimy interior

of the couples car. This culminates in one tremendously unsettling scene, which Lovering takes

his time letting the penny drop for the characters to realize just how dire their situation is. It’s the

directorial equivalent of twisting the knife.

The novel approach that Lovering and his collaborators take is welcome to a narrative that does

at times stray towards the predictable. An early confrontation with hostile locals is a nice nod

towards Straw Dogs, but as we go from winding roads to useless maps, low petrol and rising

tempers there is the nagging feeling that we’re going through a checklist of horror tropes. Some

hardcore genre fans may perhaps even find themselves moaning as characters make decisions

and take actions that only characters in horror films would make. Some may also find the final

act somewhat anticlimactic, though the final shot really encapsulates the idea of a never ending

pursuit and terror. Whatever flaws In Fear may have, its expert direction and performances give

it the edge that it needs to stand out in clogged up market of British horror cinema. On the basis

of this, Lovering may prove to be a director to watch.
