How To Be Your Own Boss – Innocent Inspires Event

On the 24th July Frost went to an amazing event all about entrepreneurialism, as part of the Innocent Inspires series at Fruit Towers.

The entrepreneurs speaking at the event were Innocent co-founder Richard Reed, luxury jewellery brand Astley Clarke founder Bec Astley Clarke, creator of not-for profit computer charity, Raspberry Pi, Eben Upton, not on the high street.com founders Holly Tucker & Sophie Cornish and founder of global peace charity Peace One Day Jeremy Gilley.

We arrived and grabbed an Innocent mocktail from the Innocent van and then mingled. The talks were brilliant. A particular favourite was Jeremy Gilley who is the founder of Peace One Day, which is on the 21st of September. Keep it in mind and spread the word. If the world need anything it is an International day of peace.

Richard Reed was as concise, smart and inspirational as ever, Bec Astley Clarke started a business and had a baby at the same time, which actually makes her superwoman, Sophie Cornish gave great advice and Eben Upton was not only great, but we also had a good chat with him after and he told us that someone took his Raspberry Pi (which he throws into the crowd during his speech)  in Iceland, but because the country is so small he mentioned it to one of the organisers and got it back from a sheepish teenager who went to his hotel and apologised.

We had a great night and we learned a lot. During the break we had some great food from the Scandinavian Kitchen and we also took away a goody bag full of stuff made by people who used to work for Innocent. That is the great thing about Innocent; they are creative and great businesspeople, and they are also ethical and moral. You can’t ask for more. Head to an Innocent Inspires event soon.

Coca-Cola-personalised-bottles-mainCoca-Cola has brought recycling fun to Scotland this month, introducing its Happiness Recycled initiative at two festivals; RockNess and the Royal Highland Show. I love Coca Cola but I always make sure I recycle my old bottles.

The campaign engaged people to recycle by bringing fun to the process, disposing of empty Coca Cola bottles at the two events in a variety of interesting ways. Including interactive bins, games and performers. These included a a giant flower pot and the chance to test their shooting skills in a game of basketball.

Recyclegoers also got to watch fun ‘Flash mob’ performances from the Coca Cola Enterprise cheerleaders. 20,000 people attending the Rockness festival with several thousand receiving photos and recycling themed tattoo. Sounds like lots of fun.

Peter Dinklage joins Cruelty Free International to call for US ban on animal testing

Peter Dinklage is photographed for Cruelty Free International, sending an appeal across the U.S. to support the global organization committed to ending cosmetic tests on animals

Following Europe’s cosmetics animal test ban in March, Emmy and Golden Globe award winning actor Peter Dinklage has become an ambassador for Cruelty Free International to call for an end to cosmetics tests on animals in the USA, as part of the non-profit’s mission to end product testing on animals worldwide.
Peter Dinklage, known for his show-stealing role as Tyrion Lannister in Game of Thrones states: “I am so pleased to support Cruelty Free International and be part of the global campaign to end cosmetics tests on animals. It is unacceptable that animals continue to suffer around the world, including the United States of America, for the sake of beauty. I appeal to the USA to follow the European Union’s lead and end animal testing for cosmetics.”

Peter posed in a Cruelty Free International t-shirt to raise awareness of the continued cruel use of animals to test everyday beauty products and toiletries from soap to toothpaste.

Peter Dinklage joins Cruelty Free International celebrity supporters Joss Stone and Global Ambassador Ricky Gervais, who starred in a video launching the global organization last year

Animal tests involve rabbits, guinea pigs, mice and rats who can be injected, gassed, force-fed and killed for cosmetics. Animal tests for new cosmetics are now banned in the European Union and in March, new animal tests for every cosmetic product to be sold in Europe were also brought to an end. This significant historical milestone was achieved after over twenty years of campaigning by Cruelty Free International’s founding organization, the BUAV.

Peter Dinklage and Cruelty Free International are joining forces to bring about a ban in the U.S., following Europe’s lead and moving the U.S. off the global list of countries that still allow animals to be used in painful and fatal test to develop beauty products.

Watch Live Gael Garcia Bernal Q & A Today.

TODAY – FILM STAR GAEL GARCIA BERNAL TAKES PART IN LIVE Q AND A AHEAD OF UK LAUNCH OF OSCAR-NOMINATED FILM ‘NO’

Gael García Bernal, the star of the Oscar-nominated film ‘NO’, will take part in a Q and A with Amnesty International to be broadcast live on YouTube at 3.45pm today, ahead of the film’s UK launch on 8 February.

The film documents the fall of the Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet and stars García Bernal as René Saavedra, an advertising executive who devised the campaign that brought democracy to the South American country in 1988.

The character René Saavedra is loosely based on the real-life advertising executive Eugenio García, who will join García Bernal in the live Q and A. They will be taking questions from the public submitted to Amnesty on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/AmnestyUK and on Twitter using the hashtag #AskGael.

The film features many of the individuals who were banned from appearing in the Chilean media during Pinochet’s era. The critically acclaimed film also won the Art Cinema Prize in Cannes in 2012.

The Q and A will be broadcast live on this link from 15.45 today:

Chile, like a large number of South American countries, has yet to fully address the human rights abuses committed by the nation’s authorities during the 1970s and 80s.

In 1973 General Pinochet led a bloody coup that overthrew the democratically-elected government of President Salvador Allende. During his 17-year rule, Amnesty believes 1,100 people were people forcibly disappeared, more than 2,000 were unlawfully killed and several thousands were tortured by the military forces.

Hundreds of people are still awaiting justice for the human rights abuses committed against them.
